A very tenuous argument. Aren't you just suggesting that you buy the players to play one way or another. Then you vary what you ask those players to do on any given match day...? ...suggesting SURELY that you want players with a variety of skill sets...? Forgive me; I'm not very clever but I don't really have the faintest clue where you're going with the difference between 'strategy' and 'tactics' and how it affects whether or not we would want Gestede. We don't want him because we only play 'tippy tappy' football as a 'strategy' but then we might employ 'tactics' which suit him and contradict our dedicated and unwavering 'strategy' of never playing long balls. Should I just get you a shovel?
A perfect example of what I'm talking about.... http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/407457/Luis-Suarez-Andy-Carroll-Liverpool Suarez on Andy Carroll "Andy is tall, strong and good in the air. But I think people were wrong about him: he was also technically very good indeed. He can strike a ball very cleanly with his left foot and with so much power. The power he was able to produce always stood out to me in training sessions. Yet for a short, passing game in which you’re looking to release people into space with a lot of pace, he doesn’t fit." I'm not saying Gestede won't fit, I'm saying so far I've never seen him play in a QSF system (Blackburn play a high press physical direct game) so I question if he will fit. At £4 mill he's worth a gamble, at £7 mill he isn't. If you disagree that's fine this is all just opinion. If the club believed he was a perfect fit at a perfect price we would have signed him 9 weeks ago when the story first broke. They haven't, which tells me there are either doubts about his fit or doubts about his price or both.
Quite interesting that people automatically assuming Gestede would be backup for Deeney. How do you know for sure? 90% of the side will be new to the Premiership. Gestede might end up **** hot in Flores's system. Noone actually knows. Bit like 2 seasons ago when some of you thought Fessi was the second coming and last season warming the bench under a new manager and this season who knows. Things can change very quickly in the Premiership that's all I'm saying.
I don't believe any player in the premiership is an automatic first choice. Obviously the coach has an idea who the best starting 11 are for each approaching game. Probably only Gilmartin is an insurance member of the 25 squad.
I am really impressed with some fans' tactical knowledge, foresight and financial acumen. Personally, I have such a tactically simple view of football, in that I wouldn't know the QSF system if it struck me in the face. I have heard him explain how he likes to play, but to be honest to a tactically simple person like me, it sounds very similar to the way most coaches like to play. Is the QSF system unique in that it is so rigid that nothing can be changed until January, regardless of how it is working? Does it mean that we play the same whether we are winning 2-0, or losing 2-0, or playing Norwich/Muff, or Chelsea/Arsenal? Does it also assume that players are also follow rigid stereotypes and inflexible, not able to adjust or change things about their game over their 15 years of useful service? Apparently so! This worries me, as I don't have the foresight to know what is gonna happen against Dundee today, let alone over the Christmas period, and picking such a rigid system so early, seems a bit dodgy to me. Personally, I prefer the option of a plan B. Then, I am in awe of fans who know Gino's financial situation such that they know £4m is worth a gamble, but £7m isn't. Me? I just trust Gino to know his own financial situation following a few decades of successfully running football clubs. I don't even know when all these transfer fees are being paid! Is it up front? Is it in stages? Are they paid dependent on achievements or milestones? F*** me! I don't even know what the fees are as they are usually not disclosed to the likes of little ol' me. Yet other fans seem to know all these things! Thankfully, Gestede is probably going to Villa and my sarcasm won't be put to the test. ...and I've got a raging hangover this morning. Sorry!
What an idiot mr integrity was selling Andy Carroll because he didn't fit a system. If only he'd asked people on here he would have realised there is no such thing as systems! He could have won title after title just by bunging on 11 players and letting them play how they want!
You obviously didn't drink enough then ... I'm still flying :drinking: (though I'm seriously considering going back to bed :sleeping
If the boot was on the other foot would we really be happy letting a proven goalscorer go to a premier league club for 3/4m plus bonuses I know Deeney is English but last summer we were scoffing at offers of 8-10m plus Think personally Gestede would be a good buy, if Deeney gets injured I would worry a little about having a suitable replacement
agreed they're not in a position of power. Like we were for so many years.. selling of best players for similar values
A few years ago we used to practically beg people for make sub-standard offers for our players as soon as summer started.
If Gestede wanted to be hear he'd have signed by now. I don't want him if he thinks we're second choice. Let's get Adam Le Fondre.
Not sure if the whole post was a whoosh, but no premier league managers tactics/philosophy are simple.
Just some hack's head ... these "journalists" need copy to feed their coke habits and unlike the big stories at big clubs that need substantiating, anything going on at WD18 simply won't get checked ... In otherwords write any old sh!te and hey presto there's a couple of hundred in the post. Who cares if it's true or not?
This is a red herring guys. We wont be signing him. They want too much. He may go to a rival but wont be coming here. ITK
Fee been agreed between Blackburn and Villa apparently. Guess it'll show us if we're actually interested...
If Villa want to pay the 7 million then good luck to them. Picking up Adebayor's wages won't be cheap either.
Definitely thought they'd be in for Charlie Austin instead of Gestede. Would be a much better signing imo (albeit at twice the cost)
Really not bothered if he goes elsewhere. His scoring record throughout his career simply does not justify his price tag IMO.
I want him. I'm sad we are not getting him. I think we might find that 6 million will look a bargain in a year's time.
Glad about this tbh - I am happy with the squad as it is (perhaps add a home-grown CM or FB but nothing else imo).
Agreed, unless Deeney and Ighalo got injured, suspended or lost form he wouldn't get in the starting eleven. Unless you've got limitless funds or stupid like QPR £6m for a reserve is madness. If Ighalo had moved on it would have been a different matter. I suspect Villa will be paying him more than we would as well.
Ges-te-de, will this rumour now please go away? He's been to Villa and he's there to stay. Oh I believe he'll sign for them today. Mmm mmm mmm Gestede...
