On the 'brink' of signing apparently. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...tml?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490 If instead of 'Rudy Gestede' it said 'Jordan Rhodes', I'd have been delighted.
Deeney isn't a very proficient header of the ball though. Most of his goals come from his feet. I'd be happy if this one was true although £5m would be a bit much unless it's made up of clauses dependent on him performing and us staying up.
would be surprised if this was true We've just scored 91 goals, our second highest tally on record Deeney, Iglo and Vyds all look prem league strikers We don't play with a big target man... if we wanted one we have Ranegie We haven't hoofed for 3 years calling bull5hit
The Mail Online have not got a Scooby Doo whats going on, and are just making up stories that have been reported elsewhere (that were also made up)
So we put Gestede in the team ahead of Deeney, Vydra or Ighalo just because he can head better than the rest of them? I think Gestede is good player but up front is not what where we need to spend money
Would be very happy with a front 4 to pick from of Vydra, Deeney, Ighalo and Gestede (and maybe Fernando too if he stays). We lack a physical presence up front and we won't be able to play teams off the park as easily as in the Championship. Gestede would be a great plan b as he is great in the air (unlike our other strikers). Don't see why anyone would complain about this.
Never saw this coming at all. Now I have thought about it, I wouldn't say no. Good addition to the squad. Their are still far too many people on here assuming that Vydra will be here next season. I'm sure he will, but there is no harm in preparing for the worse. Nando needs to be taken under Abdi's wing so he can play his role when out injured.
You'd be happy going into the season with just those three? Haven't really seen much of Gestede but he dominated us a few years ago at the Vic. No harm in adding another option. And I thought the DM were usually pretty accurate with our stuff?
This is very much a case of signing an 'option' rather than a standalone player Gestede may not be the greatest all round player in the world, but purely in terms of aerial presence, I genuinely don't think there are many better players in England. He is very much the player we hoped we had signed in Ranegie. Simply unplaybale in the air at times
Villa and Palace were after this guy in January so Premier League clubs obviously like the look of him. I think he'll be a good option.
It's unlikely that he would be a guaranteed starter, but as an impact player he would be an excellent signing. Losing 1-0 with ten minutes to go and a defence sitting back would be made for Deeney and Gestede
I can see it happening, weren't we interested in January? The Premiership is different to the Championship. We will have less possession, and our strikers clearly aren't going to have as many chances. If we are winning/ against top teams, we are going to face a bombardment, and then it is important to have a big option up top to skip the midfield. Few are better aerially than Gestede. We will also be looking for goals from different areas. We have been linked with wingers, so I think we want the flexibility to get the ball out wide and threaten with decent crosses. Deeney certainly isn't that much of a threat on his own up top, or at least from an aerial perspective. It will also give us a better option at set pieces, where even the best team can come unstuck. He will give us an entirely new dimension, so for that reason, I think he will be a very good signing.
Maybe for certain games or certain points of certain games, yes. What's so unusual about that? Times have moved on - we're no longer little old Watford and we don't have to consider every signing as only providing good value if they play 100% of the time.
If we did sign him we d need to sign someone who can cross the ball as well! Would be nice if someone could pack up a multipack deal where a TM comes with a matching wide man who can cross.
Makes sense to me. Whenever Deeney was injured last season we looked lightweight and never had a like for like physical presence to come in and do a similar job.
If I had a choice between Gestede and Rhodes I would choose Gestede simply because Rhodes doesn't offer anything we haven't got already whereas as stated by other posters Gestede has an aerial dominance that currently requires us to send Angella forward for corners, in the PL I would rather Angella stayed back for corners as the likelihood of counter attacks from our corners would increase.
This would be an excellent signing for us. Something we haven't really got, a proper aerial threat. We need at least 4 quality strikers going into the prem. Deeney and ighalo aren't really 'big men'. Gestede is a far far better version of Ranegie who himself caused enough havock to free up Deeney. it's a great big fat yes from me.
Wonder how accurate the £5m tag is poor ownership if so. certainly makes me less confident about next season if we're bringing in unproven championship players
We're unlikely to be signing any proven Premier League players this summer. And 32 goals in 60 appearances in the Championship, plus we know the havoc he continually caused our defence, makes him worth a punt.
The cost/benefit/need ratio is way off for me. Not a bad player, but for the price and considering what we already have, it's not worth it imo.
http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/30145291 "I want to play there with Watford. This season is important for me and Watford," he said. "We have to win the Championship and go there together. "I don't want to say I am a Premier League player - but I think I can play there. "Watford is the best team for me and I want to be there with them."
£5m is really not a lot in today's currency If Deeney is worth £10-£15m then that's a fair price for Gestede
