Ricky Lambert springs to mind. To be honest you can play any style you like and hitting it long sometimes is a necessity.
Good point - but Gustede has most headed goals in the Championship this/last season. 9 of his 20 were with his head which suggests more of an aerial threat than being a good link up player like Lambert.
I fully understand where you're coming from. I just feel that having 2 big brutes up front against teams like Stoke, Albion and Leicester is essential on both an attacking front and defending set pieces. We're not the strongest at defending set pieces....
Not sure how practical it is to have a 'specialist' forward who you use for certain games, players generally need a run of games - real life isn't like Football Manager If it were my call and I felt we needed to strenghten up front I'd prefer we spent money on a proven premiership all rounder like Charlie Austin, paid for by selling 2 of Deeney, Vydra, Ighao, Fessi who must have a combined weekly wage next year of £120k between them
Imagine Austin will be on about 60-70k at QPhaha. Would prefer to keep Deeney/Vydra/Ighalo at least. Agree with you that this isn't FM and a target man isn't really needed though.
For those saying Daily Mail are unreliable, they were first to McKinley being sacked even before Wobby. They were first to Dyer's loan move to Birmingham, first to Bassong's loan to us, first to Fab to Millwall. Whatever you think about them they obviously have some contact with our club to get so much correct in such a short time. If they say something I'm more inclinded to believe it than from anyone else.
I assume this is being said with tongue placed firmly in cheek after your recent comments about signing players who ''can't get into X's team''?
over the last 5 months Gestede has been going to West Brom / Swansea / West Ham / Palace / us according to the Faily Mail / Telegraph / Independant / Mirror newspapers are 90% full of 5hit, and of the remaining 10% at least half of that is rubbish
What are you talking about? The thread where I said I didn't rate Mariappa and thought we should be aiming for better, to which you called me deluded? How are those two things related? jog on muppet
I wouldn't say Gestede's style of play is a million miles away from either Bony or Gomis at Swansea. When you have 9 players passing the ball around, you need someone to put the ball in the net and Gestede has done that very well recently.
Not confirmed but looks likely - even if he doesn't get appointed, it seems unquestionable that we've at least looked at him and they deserve credit for being the first to report that (if they were actually first - I haven't checked.)
Would be very happy if we get Gestede, we can't rely on Deeney being injury free all season.......... my only reservation is that we have no one who can deliver a decent cross
Would be an interesting signing. Certainly wouldn't be against it. Doesn't look good for Forestieri unless he moves into a deeper role
http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/12972476._/?ref=mac Blackburn reoprting that no contact has been made by Watford. And that any move for Gestede would require much more than £5m Might have been Udinese/Granada that have contacted them so.. :naughty:
He's a good player, but he would have to fit into a rotation system here, and he gives me the impression that he wouldn't like having to sit on the bench when Deeney/Vydra/Ighalo/Forestieri are on a good run of form. Seems a strange fit....I could understand someone like Bournemouth or Norwich going for him, but with the Pozzo's scouting network I would have thought that if they were to spend £5m on someone it would be on a player with much more potential than Gestede.
I would suggest that it is his agent trying to generate interest by circulating rumours. Would be very surprised if this happened.
I'm thinking this too Gestede shares the same agent as Thomas Heurtaux, Cyril Théréau and Ex Pozzo Player Yacine Brahimi..
Rovers refute our bid: http://www.blackburn.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=401097 Tl:dr - No offer has been made, and even if it had they wouldn't accept £5m for him as he was rated at that before scoring 20 goals this season so they expect a lot more.
This is the Ross McCormack effect. Obviously Fulham well overpaid for him now everyone in the Championship expects unrealistic transfer values for their players (including us for Deeney's value last summer), of course if a club doesn't need to sell then they can set their own price anyway.
They're not that screwed? Sure, Venky's are a bit nuts but they have money. The club has been far more sensibly run for the last two years with Bowyer as manager. He's too much of a pessimistic manager for them the think about promotion, but they may surprise a few next year. If they can keep Rhodes, Cairney, Hanley and a few others, they're certainly a top half team.
Rhodes is leaving for certain that's what one of there players have told me. It's common knowledge in the squad. They are been run well and will cover the deficit and move forward. Transfer embargo can be managed. agree with the point regarding bowyer too negative to get out of the league.
I'm financially screwed... but if someone offered me half what my house is worth I'd tell them to Foook off !
