Kind of. Based on the Milwall fan's assessment of him it sounds like the "he's a luxury" argument may be coming to an end. We also seemed to do alright last night with a formation where Fab would get regular game time even if he wouldn't be a starter.
As his loan spell expires in mid-April it will give us an extra option should we need him in the last few games.
As Fabbrini is playing midfield, his contribution defensively can also not be over looked. Yes, he won't be running back making tackles, but when he has the ball (according to Millwall fans) it seems to stick to him, thus easing pressure of the defence. Being a defender myself it is incredibly valuable to have an outlet in midfield to give the ball to, just to make sure the ball isn't coming straight back at us. In the 4 games since Fabbrini joined, Millwall have conceaded 3 goals and kept 3 clean sheets. In the 4 games before, they conceaded 11 (3 of the matches were Blackpool and Bradford X2). Not counting the two cup games and this figure rises to 12 goals. I am in no way saying he deserves all the credit for this, but their massive reduction in goals conceaded will be in some ways related to them now having a player in midfield who can actually hold on to a ball and relieve pressure.
Thank you, some facts to back up a reasoned observation. I'm not saying he's a sh*t player but copying and pasting what Millwall fans say on Twitter isn't enough. Then disagreeing without providing a counter argument isn't any good either.
He's talented but so far mainly ineffective (for us.) He might do better in the future if given the opportunity. Or he might not. I think that's fair.
He seems to have reached the "dragged off after an hour" phase at Millwall. Soon to be followed by the "no longer in the side" phase no doubt.
Done well according to Twitter. No goals or assists again but Millwall fans saying that will come when Gregory returns so I'll bite my tongue.
Yup and even Holloway is starting to just hint at losing patience: http://www.westlondonsport.com/west-london-sport/millwall-boss-issues-challenge-to-watford-man
Was it you who mentioned about having no decent strikers to play with? Saw a few comments from Millwall fans agreeing with you, if so. Apparently played a couple of great balls into Gregory but he couldn't finish them.
Here's one of them. They need a goalscorer, desperately.
Perhaps the lack of goals and assists are a little misleading if he does this most games? (ie: get them into box, pass it around)
Well, at Watford he always fell over on the halfway line. I always said he should get forward and fall over in the box, but he never did.
Even though it was a foul as admitted by the player who committed it, it's pretty clear from recent legislation that Fabbrini was perfectly entitled to make the referee aware of the foul by the swan dive. Even then, only the linesman gave it.
http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/11812142.Holloway_would_pay_to_watch__wonderful__Fabbrini/ Holloway seems to like him. Or does he?
'At that speed he was always going to go down, whether or not he was touched' or whatever Rooneys excuse was. Get rid of pens altogether. Foul in the box is a free kick. Then the press can stop this debate surfacing every few weeks.
So if a defender handles it off the line just as the ball is about to cross, would that lead to a FK? And would the FK be like the FKs if a keeper lifts a back pass? Ie every one in the box.
Pleased he's doing well. Hopefully when he comes back in a few months he'll have the benefit of experience and game time to help our cause. And Millwall's I guess.
**** me Millwall are ****e. He's sticking out like a sore thumb. Good to see he's doing well now that he's getting a run of games in a position he suited to.
