Fabbrini to Millwall

I don't get why there was even a debate about what the WO has said.

Frank Smith CLEARLY has contacts within the club. He's been right on more than occasion.

Anyway, let's hope Fabbrini can bag a goal or an assist on Tuesday night.

  2. I've seen Fabbrini be as ineffectual as many of our players, but I have also seen him sparkle, and I think a spell at a struggling Millwall will teach him what the Championship is all about, and could be the making of him in England. He is not as soft as many say; in that Reading game he was being dragged down but still somehow kept the ball, and was still doing that in pre-season. He doesn't fit at the moment, but was he really 'Excluded' from training with the first team?

It is fair to say that Fabbrini is not in Jokanovic's plans at the moment, this is an area where he has many players to choose from; but was Fabs excluded from first team training, carrying negative connotations as suggested by the Wobby's reporting regarding the four players, or was he allowed to go and get some playing time because he is so far away from the team? As Godfather pointed out previously, Jokanovic is not in charge of loans or transfers, and if Young Pozzo and Co decided he needed the playing time because they still see him as an asset for Watford, the loan then becomes a positive move for the player, which is very different to the impression reported in the Wobby. Of those five players, he would be the easiest to send back to Italy, so why keep him on the books at Watford, and send him for development at a Championship club?

If the move to Millwall was influenced by Fabbrini himself, either directly or through his agent, then it was a brave decision, and it smacks of a player who has been told where his weekness lies in terms of the English game and has decided to take the most positive steps (even drastic) to to meet the challenge of making it here. If he wants to prove a point and learn a thing or two at the same time, then doing it at Millwall is probably the toughest and most effective way to say I'm here and I will do what is needed.

It seems to me that there may be many positives here about Fabbrini, but they are being passed off as negative because people are taking the Observer's speculation as gospel.

Holloway said they nearly got him before but it didn't happen for whatever reason, the poor guy probably asked to go out and play football once he knew Millwall were interested. And we probably only agreed to a 93 day loan because we can recall him if needed after 28 days. Looks to me like he's not in Joka's plans now but the door isn't fully closed for him and it sounds like he isn't doing his chances of making it here any harm. Who cares if Millwall are ****, they still play at the same level as us and Fabbrini is playing really well for them which suggests he could still be of some use to us in this league.

I must confess to always having a soft spot for Fabbrini as a player..of all our players last season he was the one I most wanted to see sparkle because I always felt IF he did crack it at our level, he'd be a true asset. Sadly it never happened..he looked a 50% decent player but no consistency or final product. As others have said, he was a luxury player, a lesser version of the great Abdi. I'd imagine he'd go back to Italy in May but I guess you can never say never.

  6. There is no debate about what the WO said.

UEA isn't saying I am wrong in saying that Jokanovic didn't name the players or even confirm the number of players excluded. Those things are not in the article, and saying they are would be pretty futile when the article is still on line. He just disagrees with me when I say the article shouldn't be taken wholly seriously because the Wobby doesn't declare any source, anonymous or otherwise; this incontrovertibly and CLEARLY tells the reader that anything other than the words of Jokanovic printed in quotes in that article are the opinion of the paper, and not news. If a journalist has a source, they say, as a matter of course, that they have a source, even if they don't name it. The Wobby did not say they had a source, and continue to leave it unsaid in subsequent articles, therefore it is opinion. Check out any professional news piece however small, and there will be a source either named or alluded to (a correspondent, a witness, etc.). For a professional news body to leave reference to a source out is to declare the piece as speculation or opinion; That is journalism. The Wobby's article was well written to give the impression that the four players named were confirmed and that Jokanovic was talking about them, whilst never actually linking the two things via a source. As said previously, we don't even know if the the Wobby even put the names to Jokanovic, because we are not told what question was asked. It was clever stuff, it got hits, it DID inform us that certain players were out of Jokanovic's plans (but not who, and not how many), it did tell us they had been told to find new clubs, and generally was an interesting and eye opening article. But it did take a few liberties that have possibly given the wrong impression.

What is debatable is whether or not the Wobby is right: 1, in the number of players involved; 2, in who those players are (particularly given they do not include Andrews, who is the only player we do know was excluded and told to find another club); and 3, that all the players were 'excluded' (along with the other negative connotations of the article) and not just simply out of Jokanovic's plans because we are over staffed.

We don't know the truth of these matters, but we do know that the Wobby, including Smith, can get it wrong on occasions (and about some very important subjects). So it's fair not to take everything they say as gospel, unless you want to.

Too many paragraphs and you're repeating yourself too much.

    You Fabbrini's father or agent?

  8. Nice one Squibba. Good argument, well constructed.

May I take it you now understand my point and have no further query?

If it took repeating myself that many times to get you to understand, then it was worth it.

Otherwise, if you just want to hurl abuse, please, for the sake of everyone else, keep it to PMs.

  10. Absolutely true. Three people mention him being lightweight, two of them Watford fans!

Most of what they are saying is typical of him, but as they also say, that is the reason we sent him out on loan. Maybe they can sort it out for us.

It would be a great shame for him, and possibly for us, if he doesn't find a way to harness his talent on the pitch. He cannot justify a place in our current first team, that much is true, but he seems to have so much potential and I would love to see him achieve it at Watford. Time is running out for him though...

he's right though. no end product!

i like fab but there is often no end product. i fall in the camp of wanting him to succeed but just not thinking he can cut it. i hope he proves me wrong, but at the moment I don't think he would get near our starting 11.

  13. wfcmoog

    wfcmoog Tinpot

I think the difference is that we've all enjoyed the same early enthusiasm about Fab, but over time we've witnessed wonder turn to frustration. We all know he can perform little miracles with the ball at his feet in the middle third of the pitch. What we need to see is if he can actually hurt opponents and that is what will make him a valuable player

As Brendan Rodgers once said when referring to Mcanuff, there are only two types of player who are any use, those who help your team to score and those who help your team to prevent the opponents from scoring (paraphrased heavily). Any other type of player, no matter how talented is not contributing to the success of the team.

Fab has potential, but he's now 24. Sounds like he hasn't changed his ways since joining us - more fool him, hope he has fun in Serie B.

Perhaps we should send him to a West Ham pub every time he doesn't pass and dives.

Which is why he's gone out on loan, to get game time, to work on his weaknesses and to improve. Why have so many people written him off and apparently want him to fail and not come back a better all round player?

  18. WatfordTalk

    WatfordTalk First Team

Because he doesn't work hard and has a bad attitude and has consistently shown his disrespect for both fans and management.

Unfortunately Fab is one of the victims of our massively disappointing 13/14 season. Everyone expected promotion and when it was all going wrong, people searched for scapegoats. Fabbrini, Iriney, Almunia, Deeney. Some people are now set in their ways.

I've always taken the view that, however frustrating it is if you're winning 1-0 and you conceed in injury time (as was our want!), the positive that can be taken was at least you were in a position to throw the win away.

So maybe the same is true of Fabbrini. Yes he's frustrating (as is Anya with his crossing) but at least there's half a decent player there to get in a position to disappoint with his end product. So there's something to work on.

And just to clarify my position regarding Joka, as there's talk of idiots on this thread! Any times I've indicated I'd like to see him leave is conditional on Garcia coming back, because I believe the Spaniard to be a better bet (and was our first choice anyway). A few weeks ago it was rumoured Garcia was waiting in the wings, and that's why I've posted a few comments about not yet being won over by Joka. If Garcia isn't returning, I'm happy with Joka. I think, considering all the upheaval this season, a play-off place would be a decent outcome and I'd like to think that next season we could really kick on under him once he's really settled at the club, maybe all the way to the PL.

My view is that he is clearly very talented...he looks easy on the eye with his skills and comfortable in possession...but he has no end product as he has missed chances when he has played and doesn't assist much either as his decision making is very similar to Fessi's in my opinion which isn't great.

In the Championship when you're going for promotion you can't afford too many/if any luxury players and we already have a few in Anya, Fessi and when we McGugan too...in that they can be match winners on there day but then be **** poor/no end product for a run of games.

I wouldn't be surprised if we still had him and if/when we get promoted he may suit the premiership where he's not coming up against big lumps who just have to breathe on him in order for him to fall over.

Still one of the must frustrating players I've ever watched.

Still think he could be great for us given a run of 10 games or so.

If we don't go up potentially Deeney, Vydra and Iggy will all leave for higher plains, so he may still get his chance.

    Fabrinni/Forestieri/Mensah next year.

From time to time, some ball-juggler turns up to give a half-time demo. Why is he doing that rather than playing football? Because there's more to football than ball control. There's tactical awareness, ability to see and make a pass and know when to do it, willingness to work hard and to get hurt if necessary, and determination to success.

I only want to see Fabb back at the Vic if he's part of the half-time entertainment. But I hope he does well enough somewhere else for us to get a transfer fee from him.

Why would Vydra necessarily play in the Premier next season? He had a season with West Brom and rarely got a start and when he did come on as sub he didn't exactly set the world on fire. I can't see many Premier teams would be interested in signing him for the money the Pozzos would want. Bournemouth might be a possibility and QPR if they stay up but that's about all.

From what I have seen this season, Vydra has not improved from the 12/13 season and if anything has regressed.

Do you ever get behind the players who are actually at the club now? All you ever talk about is ones that have left either permanently, on loan and players who don't even play for us.

It's like you want Fabbrini to return and do well just so you can say 'told you so'. You bleated on about Assombalonga during his hot streak now hardly say a word now he's playing ****. Which I predict will happen when Fabbrini's form dries up.

Previously had you on the ignore list as I was sick of you following me around the forum and private messaging me but after receiving a message saying you were having a go at me I thought I'd reply.

The majority of my comments on this thread have been factual. I have said that he is playing well and mentioned his man of the match awards. I did exactly the same on the Assombalonga thread, commenting when he scored as some of our fans were interested in it and still are. Doesn't take a genius to work out why I haven't said much on that thread recently as he hasn't scored much since October/November. I have never once stated that I think we were wrong to loan out Fabbrini or to sell Assombalonga.

The reason I rarely comment on our own players is because I only have facts and match reports to go on as I live in Dublin/Belfast. There is no point in me saying on a match day thread that Gomes got MOTM on saturday. Everyone on this forum knows this and a lot where at the match itself or at least listening on hornet player so will have a much better opinion on his performance (and that of any Watford player) than I will have, having followed the match on the shoutbox whilst on a bus. You'll notice my comment on the match day thread gave SJ and the team credit for getting a result against a tough, physical team.

In the only match I have been to this season, I wrote a summary of every individual player (including subs) performance. This was in the Cardiff match in which we lost 1-0 and you will find I was one of the more positive posters that day.

Many fans are interested in our current players out on loan and thats why myself and others like Watford Talk post updates on here. I have nothing to go on except match reports, twitter and Fabbrini's own facebook but contrary to my position in regards to watford matches, this will give me more information than most.

A fewer number of people are interested in our ex-players, although I know there are a small number of users on here who are interested. This is why I posted when BA was scoring and also why I updated the Tom Aldred thread when he rejoined the championship last month, however I don't see you using that against me. If someone is uninterested in how our ex players are doing, they should have the intelligence not to click on a thread specifically related to the ex player in question.

Fella, if you are going to bareface lie about private messaging, you'd best be sure that the person you were messaging constantly with comments such as 'Mr Cool' and photos of random men didn't still have those messages in case you decided to bareface lie.

Had you not lied, I'd have happily accepted the rest of your post (which was more than reasonable) withdrawn my comments and drawn a line under the whole thing. But you tried to make me look bad.
