I'm fully behind the Pozzos and who ever they decide to sign for us. Even if they want to get us a 26 year old who plays in Ecuador who we'll have to teach how to defend.

I'm behind the Pozzos on this one IF we bought him with the intention of playing him on the right wing.

If we bought him with the intention of playing him at right back, then I'm flummoxed quite frankly.

He normally plays further forward, as proved by the YouTube video. Hopefully the Pozzo's studied it fully before signing him.

I thought he looked quite good!

So he was out of position allowing the opposition to score an injury time winner?

    Fits the Pozzo model

Even if we did bring him in predominantly as a winger I'd still be concerned. He didn't actually create anything in either game and I don't remember one decent delivery into the box. Granted he was playing further back than he would be as a winger so would be expected to have fewer opportunities, but it's still worrying if he's going to be relied on as one of the one's providing service to the frontline.

If he can't put in man of the match performances against England and Switzerland, I highly doubt he's capable of playing against the likes of Rotherham and Millwall.

Maybe we should only play him against Derby, Fulham and Cardiff then

He does look like he'd absolutely destroy some full backs for pace next season. Paredes, Dyer and Anya...pretty nippy!

Think this is pretty harsh. He defended very well throughout the game. You can't blame a player for following out a teams tactics, I thought it was quite obvious they were going for the 3 points and both fullbacks were up the pitch.

Hilarious. He was outstanding I thought, barely put a foot wrong. They didn't target his side at all, & just because the cross came from his side for the winner doesn't mean he was out of position, it came from a swift counter.

    Seriously?

Did you see how far he had bombed outfield in the final minute. He was a right back yet he was chilling on the edge of the penalty area.

Did you see how he made no effort to track back once his team had lost possession? He just stood there then jogged back slowly, leaving his defensive partners in the lurch.

If they're foreign and have silly hair, Watford fans won't like them. See Paredes, Iriney, Faraoni and Fabbrini.

Agreed. That, or ones that push other players off buses. It's only going to go one way from there.

    1. How could you see whether or not he was trying to get back? He wasn't in the shot.

    2. He'd run himself ragged and was probably knackered, could be forgiven for not having the legs to sprint back when they had adequate cover.

    3. Even if you consider that a mistake, it's not solely his fault and he was impressive defensively throughout the game.

He looked more than capable of being a good Right back/wing back for us. I'd be happy to sign him.

    1. I watched the replay several times over. When possession was lost, he was in the opposition penalty area. By the time the ball was crossed into his penalty area, he appeared back on the screen, gingerly jogging back towards his goal.

    2. I don't accept that I'm afraid. If he (a right back) has the energy to bomb forward, then he should have the energy to track back.

    3. I never said it was solely his fault, but intimately the goal came from his right back position. Where was he when this was going on?

I'd be happy enough to have him here, but I've also seen much better. I also think that if we were to play him as a right back, we'd be letting ourselves in for a whole world of trouble.

He is fast and quite strong also. I've no idea what his crossing is like, but based on what I've seen, I'd be much more comfortable with him playing on the wing than in defence.

Sorry, I forgot Dani Alves doesn't do this regularly..

Some posters are nit picking and sounding like the 'spoilt brats' that many of us did not want to be.

Whoa, I don't think that's fair. Just because I'm not strumming myself to the thought of having him in my team?

Despite what you may think, I think you've forgotten that everyone on here is a Watford fan. Above all, I want my team to do well, and if Paredes comes in and has a blinding season, I won't hesitate to eat my words, with a slice of humble pie. I'm just not as convinced by this guy as some of you lot are. I'll still support him though, of course.

I was pleasantly surprised by his defensive ability, actually. Caught out of position a couple of times but looked very capable in 1-on-1s. Not many players will beat him for pace. We know he's good going forward for his club, and just because he hasn't threatened much going forward in the 2 games we've seen him in (playing right back, against 2 very decent international sides) doesn't mean that he 'offers nothing'.

I think he'd be great as a winger or a wing back and capable at right back. I'd prefer to see him further up the pitch but I wouldn't be too concerned if he played right back.

He had no chance. Christ above, talk about trying to find the negatives. He played very well indeed throughout the entire match. But let's ignore that, he doesn't have the stamina & speed of a Mo Farah & Usain Bolt hybrid.

Really concerned that we're trying to sign players who are starting for their nation in the World Cup. Especially when that nation is half-decent as well.

Think he looked very decent, personally.

His position when Ecuador got sucker punched was exactly where he was supposed to be given Ecuador's tactics. When the right back is pushed up, right sided cover should come from the right sided midfielder and the right sided centre back.

Given that Switzerland broke and countered very quickly, there was no way in hell he could possibly have got back into position into time to have any sort of impact on the Swiss play. They were too far ahead, no matter how fast he is.

Ecuador are a better team than their FIFA ranking lets on. They play some very good teams in order to qualify for the World Cup via CONMEBOL, which means their FIFA ranking is somewhat lower than it probably should be. Playing the likes of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Chile in order to qualify is a very hard task; even the teams who didn't qualify are half decent, sans Bolivia.

This chap clearly has the raw qualities required. Whether or not he adapts to the English game is another thing entirely.

This thread suits most of the signings we will get used to. Rough diamonds who will divide our opinions.

If he has been signed it is for his potential. And if I recall correctly they have been looking at him for sometime

He's at the world cup which means right now he's plays for one of the top 32 teams in the world and is in the 800 world's best players. Since when were we such a mahussive club that wasn't good enough for us?

Which means Belk is one the 800 best players in the world currently and Gareth Bale, Tevez, Negredo & Navas must be crap because they didn't go to the World Cup.

Players like Massimo Luongo (Swindon), Bailey Wright (Preston North End) are at the World Cup.

I see the point you're trying to make I just don't think you made it very well.

I don't think anybody can doubt he has talent, to play for his country who've qualified for the World Cup.

The questions Nani has to try and answer are...will he settle in England and is his style condusive to the Championship? Is he the best option we can find for that position? Will he increase in value if he stays with us?

I'm not asking those questions because I believe any of the answers to be NO btw, just to show what a gamble any such signing could be!

Good point but as Harris says above it doesn't quite work like that particularly as the WC finals don't contain the best 32 teams in the world. Not saying he wont be decent tho'.

None of those are right backs, and I'd be pretty confident none of them could play right back as well as Paredes (they should be compared with strikers and wingers who are at the WC) So imo my point stands, but respect your right to a different opinion :)
