Sorry YK, I don't buy that at all. Not that I think you are lying, but if there are 'sources' then they are just plain wrong.
Admittedly it's not from the usual place, but it came from a close friend of his agent who's a season ticket holder in the presidents lounge. Don't see who'd gain from making it up.
My problem with this whole story is that Sannino is still in charge. Had we got rid of him, yes, I could buy the story. But I don't believe that the Pozzo's are stupid enough to offer the job to a Champions League winning manager without the 100% likelihood of a yes answer, whilst we already have a coach. To do so is absolutely catastrophic for the harmony in the dressing room. Additionally, that would also indicate that Sannino is a dead man walking. Which I also doubt. If he is and all this has gone down in the manner described and Sannino is, in effect, a fall back position, then we really have no intention of promotion next season.
My feelings exactly. Either Sannino is good enough for the Watford job or he isn't. I just don't buy that the Pozzos would offer the job to RDM, have him accept it, sack Sannino then appoint him as Udinese manager. Not only could Udinese do much better than Sannino, but if the Pozzos are as ambitious as they say they are, then them going after RDM means they're not happy with Sannino, yet he's still here! I don't doubt you yelllowkicks, but I question your sources.
Again, unlikely. Udinese are a Serie A team with fans who aren't happy. Appointing some journeyman manager, who couldn't even get a team into the 2nd tier playoffs in England, whilst having a ropey record in Italy, is hardly going to please them. That's not particularly my view on Sannino but how I'd feel if I was a Udinese fan.
If only we had an Udinese fan who posted on these boards and could give us feedback on what they'd feel about having Sannino as a boss, eh? Oh wait...
I do not doubt anyone who has said that we wanted Di Matteo or heard rumours. Now watch us go for Malky now...
I'm not going to lie and say it comes from anyone I trust or can be definite with, but I know for a fact he's always been a name considered, and there is no reason for his agent to lie about an approach to a friend. Will be interesting to see if we stick with Sannino now, or continue to search elsewhere. Tbh I don't think it will matter who the manager is, our team will be that good.
The big difference is this time we will be combining proven championship players with the likes of abdi, toszer, angella etc. Last year we tried to add more unknown quantities and they all flopped. I still think had abdi not been injured we'd of probably been fine anyway, but managers, especially when in the "head coach" position don't make as big as a difference as they used to anyway, positively or negatively.
So, if the RDM interest was true, and he rejected us, basically it looks like we will go into next season with Sannino more by default than anything else. Did we see enough from him last season to merit confidence come August? Which was the real Sannino, the one who got us winning again fairly soon after replacing Zola, or the one who oversaw a completely shambolic end to the season, amid rumours of player unrest???? Will he reap the rewards of a pre-season and a squad clear out, or is he just a novelty act who landed on his feet big time when the Pozzos got in touch? We shall see.
You really have a Bee in your bonnet about Sannino don't you, were you and GFS having a thing :love2: Seriously though, up until this Sannino thing, you came across as a level headed neutral forum member. Why has this Sannino issue, rattled your cage so much?
