Doesn't get things wrong........ apart from getting in a massive row with Deeney about not paying his drinks bill
Great signing. Seen him make some unbelievable saves. Only a year so if it doesn't work out we are not tied to a long contract. Great start, but why isn't Dyer now confirmed!?
Having watched that dire performance against Huddersfield, we looked leaderless on the pitch. In Dyer (assuming it's confirmed) and Gomes, we have signed two very experienced players. Gomes was appointed captain by the German club he was loaned to after just three matches for them. So I'm hoping we've signed him and Dyer as much for their leadership qualities and experience as their ability. We need it. I'm also hoping we've signed the Gomes who was possibly the best keeper in the PL for a time while helping Spurs into the Champions League, rather than the one who was a nightmare when he first arrived in England and again towards the end of his stay at White Hart Lane!!
The fact we can attract this calibre of player is great, let hope we have a chance of a similar deals, I'm thinking Joe Cole, Collison etc
Nothing official about Manu leaving, but my guess is that Gomes signing indicates that Manu will be leaving us, as I very much doubt Gomes has signed for us to be a bench warmer.
I'm not so sure. Maybe Gomes couldn't get any other offers and our offer at least keeps him in employment for another year. I will watch this space.
Absolutely exceptional signing. I can't believe I'm seeing Watford fans (mostly on Twitter who probably also support Arsenal) moaning about this.
Hornets Player interview confirms he had other offers but chose us based on our ambition and our location close to his family home. Also confirms his nickname is 'The Octopus'. Which is fantastic.
So the moaners on here who have slated Gomes think we ve now become too big a club for a keeper who is still 33 and has been the No 1 at... • Cruzeiro, the current Brazilian champions • PSV, helping them to the Champions league semi finals • Tottenham, over 100 caps • Hoffenheim, mid table Bundesliga team, successful loan term last season until he got injured • Brazilian national team, (who Im reliably informed are quite good) 11 caps.
At least he is smiling. Definitely means Almunia is off but hope Gomes does ok. Clearly a short term fix but it can't hurt IMO. Honestly thought Westwood was coming but obviously not. He hasn't played for almost 2 years at Spurs, but im willing to give him a chance.
It's a yes from me 200 games top flight experience, including 95 in the premiership, nearly 3 seasons worth. An element of international expiriance. Had won 4 league titles by the time he was 27. His played champions league and Euro league as well People seem to forget that Almunia had only played a similar number of games at Arsenal before he came and was released by Arsenal because he made to many mistakes and was inconsistent. His career stats are pretty similar to Almunias. His played more top flight football and European football than Kuszczak For me a very very good signing
At least we know he can't be 'Bonham'ed'...
Its all well and good making saves from Frank Lampard but whats he going to be like on a wet January Tuesday night up at Grimsby
Bog Demons ( full anagram , thank you). Sounds like the headline when Gomes' goalkeeping gaffes come back to haunt him in a mud drenched, mid winter away cup match at non league Harlow Town. The Wobby may report this... "A simple back pass, caused Gomes to skid over in the mud, leaving the ball to trickle over the line in a scene more akin to a Laurel and Hardy film rather than a professional football match. On the plus side an early exit from the Cup leaves Watford free to concentrate on their disastrous, pointless first half of the season, avoid relegation and look to rebuilding for next season. "
