This may just have secured Deeney's services for one more season too, with the prospect of those two playing together again.
If we're signing the Vydra who was so so so good for the first six months of his season with us, and whose heart is really in the move, then this is great news If, however, we end up with the Vydra who only scored in one match from February onwards, and who is only coming to us because his employers have basically told to him, then I'm not so sure. Fingers crossed it's the former, fingers crossed Troy stays so we can re-unite one of the great striking partnerships we've all seen in our recent history (surely today's news must be a boost in making Troy want to be here next season too) and fingers crossed the Head Coach can get the best out of him as Zola did.
Fingers crossed for the former. One thing that is an advantage is we still have a lot of the side around that played with him when he was here last. They won't have forgotten how to play to his strengths, and despite his poor season at west brom, he didn't really get a run in the side, despite often looking a handful when he came off the bench.
Welcome home Matti. Great news and thanks to Uncle Troy for breaking it to us via twitter! Obviously this is clearest sign yet that Renegie will be played at left back!
If he wants a long term contract with a Premier League Club, he will have to play well with us, he won't get it otherwise, and also that long term contract could be with the Horns.
He's got a point though. As long as Vydra actually wants to be here, I will welcome him with open arms. Let's hope he made this decision himself. Welcome back, Matej!
What did you feel was not relevant about my point? We saw 2 Vydras during his season with us. From February onwards he scored in one match and wanted to leave. I don't want that one back. I don't think we will get that one back either by the way, I think it's great news today, he is a class act, but you can't re-write history just because you're elated this morning.
Can we all just forget about him and move on? It's getting really tiresome. F***him if he doesn't want to come back, I don't want him back either.
Vydra is the kind of player that can completely change a side, we missed him so much last season. Playing against Vydra teams have to sit deep to counter his pace, which gives Adbi, Deeney, forestieri and other players a lot more space to play in. I think his not wanting to be here was overplayed, strikers go in and out of form and he was being man marked out of games. I'm not saying he didn't have attitude problems, but I think it's overstated.
Saying he wanted to leave is a little harsh, is agent was spouting about nonsense everywhere, did you forget when Vydra said he loved playing here? Danny Graham had dry spells in front of goal, as do lots of strikers, there's still a brilliant player in there
I really don't think it's fair to say Vydra completely dropped the second the half of the season as if that's his fault, it was the boys first ever full season...that's a tall order to keep it going all year! Toszer did the same cause he wasn't fit enough due to not playing regularly. You have to remember how young Matej is!
Did you swallow a grumpy pill about 6 months ago Malteser? You've turned into a real glass half empty man, when you used to be much more of a glass half full man I was about to write something similar to you nhf, totally agree with you mate :sign15:
Whether he was wanting to go himself, or was totally influenced by his agent, his heart did not seem in the last few months of the season with us. With regards to his loss of form, I put a lot of down to tiredness. It was the first full season of his career, following a year long injury too, and i think he just burnt out by February. The play-off second leg gave us a reminder of what he could do, and it was such a shame he got injured at Wembley. Vydra is one of the best forwards I've seen play for Watford and I go back a long way! It's great news today, but I feel it's relevant to at least mention his attitude to the move. Last season it was obvious we had some players whose heart wasn't fully in playing for us, and that's what we have to eradicate this season to stand a chance of success.
No I didn't VOR! The problem comes when people read just one sentence of a longer and balanced post. If you re-read my original post more carefully, you will see the positives I wrote about today's news.
Honestly don't expect the guy to be as explosive as he was first time round. The kind of football we play now is quite different to what it was like under Zola. Fantastic signing though. Just Toszer & maybe Parades to come and I'll be happy.
I'm with Malteser. The attacking triangle of Deeney, Vydra and Abdi has got to be the best in the league if they're all committed, and I really hope that Vydra and his agent have seen the error of their ways. We also have FF to draw defenders to him, make space and cause chaos. But we have a keeper who's an unknown quantity (a lot of top-flight games but not within living memory), and a central defence that's probably worse than the dodgy one we had last season. So Chovanec, Vydra, Tamas and Cathcart, prove we wrong - please!
