He seemed to be the poorest of the loans that did get games last season, and I do think he had a reasonable opportunity to make an impact. Also, he'll be 32 a month into the season. Not the end of his career, but a little late to be proving himself. Not really sure it would be a great move, but wouldn't wish against it.
I think he is there training to keep fit, he tweeted the other day @GeijoAlex: De camino a Barcelona para viajar mañana hasta Italia para iniciar la pretemporada hasta que resuelva mi futuro. Muchas ganas de empezar ya @GeijoAlex: on the way to Barcelona to tomorrow travel to Italy to start the preseason until it meets my future. Eager to start now I reckon he's just training until he gets a move..
Why with us though, he should be at his own club, as I think he is still a Udinese or Granada player, I don't think he is a free agent? Is it possible he is going to stay with us? If so I would not be adverse to that; as IMHO he was not given a fair crack of the whip last season and might have proven he is a good player had he had a decent run in the team, instead of sporadic cameos!!! Having said that, at the same time it is a bit worrying if we are considering keeping him, because it could mean we are struggling to find a decent replacement, especially as GFZ obviously did not seem to be overly keen on him last season?
A bit odd if he is training with us if he's not going to be here next year. Like others I'm not sure he had much of a chance last season. You need to have a run of games to get up to speed especially in a new league. There were a few games where we were winning easily and we could have given Vydra or Deeney a rest with 25-30 mins to go but for some reason that didn't happen and then he gets thrown in at Millwall having barely played for 3 months. He was the best of a poor bunch at Wembley IMO.
he may as hang around with us as much as he may hang around with Granada or Udinese. Also I'm sure there's plenty of decent sized clubs here that would take him on loan, he would definitely add something to most championship teams
The guy isn't a bad player. His time was extremely limited last season, if he was playing regularly then I reckon he'd have his time to shine. With the possibility of Mensah & Assombalonga going out on loan we MAY need to add another striker. With such short notice, it could be a wise move to bring in someone who has already been around the team for a season. Or he could just be visiting/training with us.
Presumably because he enjoyed it and made good friends, certainly the interviews of the players last year he is respected and well liked, better to train with pals than in udinese or Granada where you feel less comfortable!!
It wouldn't make sense for him to train with watford if he's staying in Spain, why would the clubs pay for his flight and accommodation, not to mention if he is going elsewhere (Hercules?) then why would they not want him for pre-season, considering Spanish clubs have now started back? Doesn't make sense. The way we played last year I can see Deeney / Geijo / (Ikpeazu) as the advanced forward, and Fessi / Acuna / Fabrinni / (Assombalonga) as the deeper second striker. Ranegie stays at Udinese or goes elsewhere
I for one would be very happy for Geijo to return this season As others have said he never really got a chance last season, but when he did he looked class and given a run I believe he would have scored a fair few. He is not a Vydra replacement but rather Deeney and it was only his form and fitness keeping Geijo out of the side. Even at Wembley he looked okay although a bit rusty, not surprising given his lack of game time and consequently he was on a totally different wavelength to the rest of the side and particularly Deeney as they quite often made the same run! With the loss of Eustace in the dressing room, having another experienced old head around the club would be great for the younger players particularly the Spanish speakers like Battocchio, Forestieri and now Acuna. Plus he's very popular with the rest of the squad.
Also maybe we could read more into his arrival yesterday. As this is when the other Spanish players Almunia and Acuna arrived?
If Deeney gets crocked and ruled out for 6 months with injury in August, then I for one would be happy to have Geijo in the squad for next season as cover.
Nothing against Geijo, but if Deeney is out for six months we wouldn't get promotion with him as replacement for that time
asombalongawonga - already scored more than ellinglump for wfc -well maybe not but feck he only cost 7 years feeding and not 100 million italian lire.
Nothing odd with Geijo training with Watford. He was with us for a year and feels comfortable in the environment. Quite a few of his mates are at Watford now. He went on his holiday with Abdi for example. He's a very popular character with the whole squad and has a positive affect on those around him. It makes sense for both parties right now.
I like Alex ... good player, great attitude and it's only Deeney's deadly form that kept him off the pitch. If he's back for another season then I for one am happy about it.
Geijo is a good player and with a good run in the side would do well. No point in comparing him to Deeney. Deeney had had a few years to get used to the championship and Geijo played a handful of games. He is good at holding the ball up and gives us a different option. I for one like him and wouldn't mind seeing him with us for another year.
Apparently he was only visiting his old team mates when seen at the Italian training camp, according to the WO. So it looks like he won't be back, good luck to him wherever he ends up :sign15:
I don't want him back, his career won't progress if he stays with us, he is nearing the end of his career allow him a load of first team football elsewhere, he is probably not needed!
Rather a long visit. I hope he's not one of these annoying relatives who doesn't know when it time to do one...
Geijo seems like a good man to have in the dressing room. Regularly named as the 'best banter' of the team. I think IF he came back, with our apparent wealth of attacking options, he would do more for team bonding than goalscoring. EVERYBODY loves him.
Just noticed he played in the friendly today. From the fishal site "YELLOWS: Bond (Wilks); Doyley, Angella, O’Nien (Byers); Faraoni, Murray, Pudil; Fabbrini, Battocchio; Acuna (Mensah), Deeney. WHITES: Almunia (Dmitrovic - trialist); Smith, Brown (trialist), Cassetti; Anya, Hogg, Romero (Stewart); Abdi, McGugan; Assombalonga (Ikpeazu), Forestieri (Geijo). "
