Lucas Perez would be an amazing purchase... I don't think he'd want to join us though... In fact, I doubt Arsenal would even want to let him go for less than £20 million (especially to another Premier League side)

The baseline price for a EPL striker is now 20 - 25 million pounds and a Championship striker 10 - 15 million pounds. Absolutely crazy reality. Why are we immune from having to break the transfer record if we need to? Make it happen Gino if you have to! COYHS

 

Agreed. Especially considering we were apparently willing to break our transfer record for Lemina, but signed Chalobah on the cheap instead. Whats gonna happen with that money now? Also some of that Ighalo money must be burning a hole in Gino's pocket. Financially I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to smash our transfer record and spend 20mil on a striker. Convincing that player to come to us could be the stumbling block though

 

Sell Capoue for his current market value which is 2 tracksuits and a football.

After conceding 3 goals today to a league one team, friendly or not, our defence needs some serious surgery me thinks!

Whether we need new players or just better organisation at the back, something needs sorting quick or PL forwards will rip us apart!

 

Our defensive organisation has been dreadful for the past 18 months, ever since Flores decided to play a more expansive game, we've been leaking goals. Mazzarri was completely hopeless, so this area of the team has been largely badly trained, organised and neglected for a long time now.

The only are of concern I have with Silva, and I do rate him highly, is his zonal marking system. Hull fans really hated it and thought it was a problem for them. Zonal marking tends to be a problem with whoever plays it to be fair.

We need a new left back and centre half, who can comfortably play for an established mid-table EPL team. That's the level we need. I think we're ok with what we have apart from that. But for me a new striker and centre back have to be Watford's top priority signings in this window. GK and LB secondary to this.

 

Isn't zonal marking what is done in football today?

I like man marking as everybody knows who they've got. The other thing that used to drive me mad was players on the posts. First, you mark the man, stop him getting contact with the ball. Why mark an object that ain't gonna score?

I know whole new team but we do that anyway and a lot more home grown then we have now

 

Gray and Roberts instead of Berghuis and Success? Where is Pereyra and Prodl... Both of whom are arguably our best players - along with a few others who were unnamed. I like the idea of Zouma though, he would be a great signing (even if it were only a season long loan)

 

My priorities would be :

CD - despite our multitude of CDs I'm not convinced by any apart from maybe Prodl. I think we could do with 1 new top quality.

Striker - quick one who knows where the onion bag is

I know LB and wingers are a priority but I reckon we can muddle by with Holebas with Mason/Janmaat as back up. I think we have loads of options for a winger type position. New GK would be a bonus but happy with Gomes for another season.

I don't massively like loans but seeing as they're our feeder club Zouma and, if Chelsea buy some more strikers, Batshuayi would be great albeit unlikely.

I'd also enquire for Jaansen. I'd be happy with Assombalonga for 15m but the reported wages are stupid and would have a knock on effect on the rest of the squad.

We must have a shed load of money and I hope we splash it on some youngish potential superstars I've probably never heard of. Spending 20m is nothing nowadays and the potential resale value is massive if they come good.

 

It's not the money - it's that Arsenal don't want to sell Perez, and if they did I don't think he'd want to join us anyway.

This article suggests Arsenal favour a permanent move over a loan, with 15 million Euros the asking price. If Fenerbahce & Real Betis are the only clubs interested, we would have a chance. He may well not want to join us, but I guess this depends on how well he has settled in London.

 

Steven Caulker???!! I've heard it all now. Good luck to him in his current situation in life but he's nowhere near ready to play football let alone PL football.

 

I'm not sure we have a " shed " load of money, as it has been spent quite heavily in the last couple of years, Massari's and his 12 co workers payoff would have cost a few millions and a lot has been spent on players who don't actually make the first team. Players wages are not insubstantial and I believe Gino loaned the club last year or the year before, I'm sure Gino is on the case and we will be ok in the end!

 

The right frame of mind he is a decent premier league centre back which we need, someone will give him a chance and if it works everyone else will look silly. He is going to be cheap so is a low risk signing and if it doesn't work out we have prodl etc who are more than capable!

 

I'm still undecided on both success and berghuis I think success is more of an impact sub than a starter would love him to prove me wrong. Think markovic was good under silva last season so could be an option. Pererya is class so he'd probably get in front of cleverley but I have a feeling he might leave...
Yer don't know why we aren't in for zouma surely it's better than going to cold stoke...

 

Quite possibly but there's too many if's and but's. We need someone to come in and improve what we have got already. That's not him.
