Your song

Sorry to be a pain guys.

After long conversation, we have come to the conclusion that using EJ's 'your song' would be a very appropriate club song, that fans could possibly join in with as players come out. It would give us a club song, similar to YNWA and west hams forever blowing bubbles.

How would people feel is this song was suggested to the club, to be played on a regular basis as the players walk out ?

 

We'd need the words to be put on screens, like West Ham do for Blowing Bubbles even though they've had that song for years!

 

I'm all for changing Z-Cars but not to "Your Song". Needs to be an uplifting piece and YS is a slow/quiet ballad style. How about Mussorgsky's "Night On The Bare Mountain" - now there is a stirring piece guaranteed to put the frightners on any opposition player. Well, hopefully anyway.

If you don't know the piece then try it on Spotify or something similar

 

I think the plan is to have Your Song to get crowd up for it before players come out, then players come out to Z Cars

 

I still think Yellow by yawnmongers would be better. An anthem that would sound awesome around the ground.

 

Yes to your song as a fans anthem, at the beginning and end of each game, but no to replacing Z Cars.

 

yes, could never get rid of Z cars... its been with the club for too long. 'Your Song' would be played just before when players go in before game.

 

It might work but not from our £39.99 Binatone PA system.

Your Song doesn't fit as that sort of song. It never really gets going and its very slow and doesn't really flow as a song.

I think that you would be better off looking at British anthems of the last thirty years or so that people will know the words of. They don't necessarily have to relate to Watford; look at Stoke singing Delilah, no real link there at all.

Prefer the idea of yellow by yawnmongers, even black&yellow by wiz would be amusing.

 

Having done a bit of Youtubing, i fell across a video that said we used to sing hi ho silver lining ? would anybody older then myself be able to inform me if that was correct.

 

I prefer Yellow by yawnmongers. Blasting our the chorus to that would be better IMO

 

an anthem type song needs either a more distinct chorus, or be significantly shorter than either yellow or your song in my opinion

this came up about 5 years ago and a lot of people wanted yellow, including me. nothing ever happened of course.

 

I think Yellow would be the best choice.

It has been played around the ground since it came out around ten years ago and it is obviously relevant to us.

However, if it is going to be made our anthem then effort needs to be made, i.e: Words on screen, everyone singing it otherwise it won't work and will just look a bit tragic.

 

The thing is, try and look at this from the perspective of visiting fans. I'm all for what you guys do and I think it will get better with season ticket renewals etc, but you need a name change straight away. 'The Yellow Order' is never ever going to get respect with that name. Ever.

And no to 'Your Song', it wouldn't work and again... it's embarrassing.

 

It's a good thought but the club will never take supporters ideas on board.

If answer was given it would be something along the lines we can't afford to pay the royalties to the recording artist, or we can't afford a new sound system.

You would think that we would have a top of the range sound system with one of the biggest recording artists in the World involved in the club,
if not if somebody from the club could approach a sound engineering company and work out a deal where we would get it for nothing.

I'm not a fan of either song. Both a bit dreary to be used a an 'anthem'.

 

Cold play is played in the waiting rooms at the Samaritan. Although the lyrics are fine, perhaps if it was to a tune that was slightly more exciting than the funeral march, in fact if you could fit the lyrics into the funeral march it would be better, at least it would be a little more uplifting.

Hi Ho Silver Lining all day long for me, the other songs are too depressing. The players will come out of the tunnel in floods of tears, wanting the Samaritans not the ball.

 

Elton's songs unfortunately do not really lend themselves to anthems (Saturday night being the exception maybe)

There seem to be 2 routes - classical music or rock anthem - but whichever it should have something to do with Watford. Still racking brains!

 

and nothing gets a big crowd buzzing like a pre-match rendition of elton john from what would be less than half the rookery... Please, spare us the embarresment!
