Your perfect opening 3 fixtures....

This is purely for fun, and I know it's totally random based on what the fixtures computer churns out. But who would you like us to play in the opening five fixtures this coming season? Under the new guide of Silva I'm very much looking forward to the new season.

1 Brighton (H) - it's about time we beat them again at the Vicarage. They would probably like to play us in the first fixture as well, due to us being the "old first division boys". Would be a good game too. Brighton played some stunning football last season overall.

    2. Manchester United (A) I'm not crazy, but over the last few seasons they have started quite poorly at home in general and we could nick a point or three if we catch them on an off day.

    3. West Ham (A) Really enjoyed the game their last season, it was great comeback win, and to do it in their new fortress was even better. West Ham have been blowing hot and cold for a while (a bit like us), instead of blowing bubbles. They haven't really settled yet in the stadium and another win their would cement us and possibly becoming their bogey "derby" side.

    What are your thoughts?

  2. Brighton A - great day out in August. Any of the top 6 at home - as you say they often take time to gel their superior squads and have often been on far-flung commercial pre-seasons.

Brighton away would be great (Probably the last game they want though!) Failing that, Southampton or Newcastle away.

Other than that, someone we won't lose to so we can have a false hope of optimism going forward for the rest of the season until reality eventually dawns on us just after Christmas and we plummet down the table and finish 16th after scraping a couple of plucky victories against teams that are even more tinpot than us.

Tottenham away! Their first game at Wembley is probably our best chance of beating them.

We must be due a home game as the last two seasons we have started away, therefore a home game against one of the promoted sides let's say Huddersfield would be good for starters, then away games at Brighton and Bournemouth would be a great start!

The promoted sides are often pumped for the first games so would rather avoid early season - Hull last season a good example.

Arsenal home - don't they have those early Europa Cup fixtures - players tired already, Sanchez gone? Get this fixture done.

Spurs away at Wembley- Watford to win as they are disorientated like Wet Spam were at their new ground.

Burnley home. After Dyche has gone to Palarse and they are in disarray?

West Ham (H) - Perennial slow starters and I think all the pressure is on Bilic to get a good start or he could be first to be sacked.
Swansea (A) - Best chance of an away win early doors. The newly promoted teams will be desperate for a good start at home so none of them.
Huddersfield (H) - Simply because we'd be favourites to win.

A potential 9 points from 3 games and top of the table...ha!

    After that?

Spurs (A) - Take advantage of any Wembley jitters.

Think we ll do a Hull and go top of the table early doors and then not win until Xmas when Silva is sacked and we bring in an unknown Bolivian manager who used to manage a South American team called Barcelona but not the real Barcelona.

He did however manage to get a small village team into the top division of the EPL ( Equadorian Premier League) and finished 11th, proving he can organise a group of plucky underdogs to overperform. However an outbreak of sweet potatoe blight meant all the team had to return home to attend to their small landholdings and they plummeted to the bottom of the table and so said manager was sacked in December leaving him the only available manager in the whole world, to take over the reigns at Watford.

Someone will post an indepth internet article analysing his tactical style called "MultoMultoPressinataBangBang" which builds up all of our hopes, only to be dissapointed as every week we just pass around the back for 5 minutes before Prodl lumps it forward to Deeney who then loses it, leaving Caopoue to gently canter back whilst the opposition speed up the other end and score.

Somehow we finish 17th on goal difference but we sack the new manager anyway leaving Linekar and Shearer frothing at the mouth as they justify their extortionate tax payer funded wages by saying, without a hint of irony, that Watford are everything wrong with modern football.

Friday night at home (Huddersfield) - Sunday away at Newcastle - Monday night at home to Burnley - 7 or more points and everyone will be smiling - less than three looks like the Silva lining theory has been found out. Two evening matches out of the five on summer evenings.

I'm on holiday, so would miss the first 2 games. For that reason, I'd like:

Arsenal at home - usually lose and loads of plastic gooners in the home end winds me up no end
Burnley away - been to that backward inbred dump twice and have no intention of going again

    Happy to miss those two.

As pointed out above, newly promoted sides are generally pumped up for the first few games so none of them.

Not Arsenal as the early Europa league games mean they'll already be in their stride and hit the ground running.

Spurs away is a great one as Squibba said. First game at Wembley and pressure on.

West Ham as Burnsy said. Slow starters and Bilic under pressure early on.

And Stoke or a Dyche-less Burnley at home.

Reading - Home get points on the board early EDIT ( Which in code means Huddlesfield ! )
Stoke away - always slow starters

Chelsea away, Hazard is injured and with quite a lot of players coming and going on a hit sunny day it could be the ideal time to play them.
Palace home, I don't rate Palace and Holebas won't miss the game through being carded
Arsenal Home, they normally have an international break at the start of the season so hopefully all the south Americans will be jet laged and they might have the odd injury

Southampton @home - their form was rubbish toward the end of the season and they will lose key players

Spurs away - just to get it out of the way

Stoke or Burnley @home - Stoke are my dark horses for relegation and Burnley will suffer second season syndrome

I'd like to stay away from the promoted teams as they're all be up for it.
I also think they try to switch the opening game home and away each season, we have played away twice due to asking for the Everton fixture to be played at goodison as the Vic was still getting upgraded, then last year was our turn to travel. So I'm pretty confident we will start at home.
Liverpool (H) Muff (A) Burnley (H) my guess
    Palarse (H) Spuds (A) Stoke (H) I'd like

Wouldn't want Brighton (A) as think they'd be really up for that. Prefer we play the promoted sides in the middle season. Stoke often slow starters. So I'd go for so thing like:

    Swansea (H)
    Stoke (A)
    West Ham (H)

Couple of things jump out from the fixture list:

Burnley's first five away games are Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton and Man City. That's a lot of pressure on them to get off to another good start at home.

Huddersfield's last four games of the season are Chelsea, Everton, Man City and Arsenal. They're going to need points on the board before the run in.

On paper the fixtures have been quite kind to us with no real long runs of the top sides it seems! Obviously when it comes to it no idea who’ll be in form but we cannot grumble with that!

Huddersfield will certainly need to get their points on the board before their last few games! All 4 of theirs are top sides most likely still playing for Europe/trophies nightmare scenario for them!
