Combats avec tes défenseurs Sous nos drapeaux que la victoire Accoure a tes males accents, Que tes ennemis expirants Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire ?
Having watched the videos Reids posted of him, he seems to occupy a much deeper midfield role than I expected. I thought he was like a second striker and wouldn’t fit in to a lower-PL team that can’t afford a ‘midfielder’ who doesn’t track back. But in the clips I watched (which admittedly don’t show what he does OUT of possession), the opposition were getting men behind the ball and Asprilla was quite deep, with several team mates ahead of him. I suspect he must have to get fairly involved in the defensive side too. When trying to play through defensive sides he was picking it up deep but looking to break forwards with a few 1-2s which was nice to see as well. Just needs some extra muscle and he might be a useful player.
https://m.footballdatabase.eu/en/transfers Apparently €3m deal today - that website is user driven but it's fairly accurate.
Asprilla has been called up to the Colombia squad for their friendly vs Honduras later this month. He gets his first senior call up shortly after signing for the 'Orns. Coincidence? I think not.
Looks like a very experimental squad - I don’t recognise any of those names. Still lists Asprila as an Envigado player. Should we be concerned?
Yeah I think it's mainly players from South America by the look of it, maybe to have a look at some of them for future squads. They have Peru and Argentina coming up in a few weeks as well, I'm sure the big guns will be called up for that. Still, impressive for Asprilla to be included at such a young age. He could be staying at Envigado until the summer?
Wow, he could probably come here even without having to go to Udinese! Not that going Udinese is the worst idea for him right now
Good point - if he plays the two friendlies vs Honduras and Peru then unless I'm mistaken that should give him enough points to qualify for a work permit at the very end of January.
It’s absolutely the worst idea. Whilst our youth development is bad, any player we’ve sent there to develop has either quit football or disappeared without trace.
….And in the 5% chance he does well, he’ll have worked out that Mediterranean Italy is a much better place to live that wet cold miserable nothingy Watford and refuse to come over here, as those 2 clowns did in summer 2020.
Dream scenario would be he gets the caps necessary for a work permit and then ends the season with Envigado. I dont see any benefit in rotting on Udinese's bench for 6 months.
Dream scenario is he comes here, immediately wins and keeps a first team place, scores a hat trick on his debut v Luton and goes on to score 35 over the remainder of the season. He punches Ozan Tufan and WTE in training and then starts flying around over the ground, like superman. I decide to go to the Vic to watch him, but after tbe game's started, I look down and am horrified to find that I'm completely naked! Then everyone starts chasing me again and I fall off a cliff trying to get away, then Ciff elbows me and tells me to stop snoring. Now THAT is a real dream scenario.
Wording of the transfer seems to suggest he might be coming straight here. Watched the wyscout of his game last night and he would instantly be the best passer in our midfield. A bit like JP though he does look a little bit lightweight.
I think his appearance for Columbia last night means he now qualifies for a work permit so this is suspiciously timed! Played 1-9% of Colombia's last available mins (ranked 16th) = 7 points He played 1426 mins out of 1620 available in a band 4 competition (88%) = 5 points Coming from a band 4 club = 6 points I make that 18 points - 15 is required for a work permit. Wonder if we had word that he was gonna be called up and asked if we could delay the transfer so he'd qualify for a work permit.
The transfer was done ages ago I imagine - Leventhal announced it back in August. I think we were just waiting to make it official so that we'd get the work permit.
