Who is he? I know of Tino. Is he good? Will we get him? Answer the second question first and the third question second please as Groucho nearly said!
No relation to Tino but is very highy regarded and rated. This tweet was before the potential signing came to light. https://twitter.com/cworswick/status/1429625338989006848
I admire your consistency. You made exactly the same comment about João Pedro on 13th October 2019 (#778 in [SIGNED perm] João Pedro thread).
We all made the same joke about Estupinan and Suarez and they never played for us, Cucho was quite a close-run thing as we'd never have seen him play for us had we not got promoted!
I think that Estupinan and Suarez would probably have played for us if it had not been for relegation, although Suarez had personal reasons for wanting to join Granada. Neither of them wanted to play in the Championship. Unfortunately, Watford needed to sell them because of the financial difficulties caused by relegation and the difficulty of off-loading other players whom Watford did not want to keep. I agree that Cucho's arrival was also dependent on Watford's promotion to the Premier League. He would have probably stayed on loan with Getafe if Watford had failed to get promoted. His arrival was also delayed because he did not initially qualify for a work permit. Hopefully Yaser Asprilla will arrive at Watford at some time in the future.
Cucho always seemed a lot more attached to the club than either of those two, I believe he'd even spent time at the club when injured. Suarez always had a connection with Granada, and I feel we'd have had a task on our hands to keep one of the best left-backs in Spain so I don't know if either of them would have stayed if we'd stayed up!
I think that Cucho visited Watford on two occasions when he was injured and he does seem to have more of an affinity with the club. I believe that part of the problem with the other players was that Estupinan had only one year remaining on his contract and that Suarez had only two years remaining. Suarez had played for Granada's B team and met his future wife while he was living in that city (which is the reason that he was keen to return so that she could be closer to her family). Estupinan had spent six years living in Spain, but he might have been attracted by the possibility of playing in the Premier League.
Apparently confirmed, will join in January and go to Udinese. https://twitter.com/PSierraR/status/1432092412357316612
That's good. I was feeling bad we'd not signed any players for them in this window. I feel better about this deal now.
I wonder whether the reason is that he does not yet qualify for a U.K. work permit, but that the Pozzos want to get him over to Europe as soon as possible.
Well pretty much as soon as he steps on the field in a competitive game for Udinese he'll be eligible for a work permit given the new rules. Seems strange though, the kid is 17 years old and looks wafer-thin, what's wrong with keeping him in South America for a while?
Exactly this. He'll qualify for a work permit here by next summer if he goes there in January and gets on the pitch a few times. Udinese are going to be a very useful avenue for getting young players work permits for us.
As posted above he'll likely just be at Udinese to qualify for a work permit then join us in the summer. He looks an exciting prospect, and left-footed attacking flair players are always handy.
Finally got my unlimited WyScout account so was able to make a more extensive compilation than the ones out there already
A lot of his through balls didn't come off but it's a good sign that he's seeing those passes in the first place. He also strikes the ball very cleanly when shooting. He gets the thumbs up from me, now which lucky Spanish club will get to keep him?
Turns 18 today. Now we can officially sign him. “Almost closed deal” - Chairman reveals player ‘close to Watford’ after year-long negotiations - Sport Witness
Ahhh the classic comment from the selling club alerting everyone else that the deal isn't yet done, so that someone else can swoop in and get him, great stuff.
Seasons finished for him now. Let's hope we get that paperwork finished sharpish, 5 goals and an assist is good work for a 17 year old (in just 19 games!)
