Great result for the girls and for women's sport in general in the UK. I just hope that as it becomes more popular that it doesn't pick up the bad habits of the men's game. Shame the tournament didn't start a week earlier so it didn't clash with the Community Shield and the Commonwealth Games and could have had the Nation's full attention for the weekend.

Bad habits? Well, the Germans did go in for (and get away with) niggly fouls and trying to get their opponents booked. Reminded me of Revie's Leeds. That. Was. A. Disgrace.

I agree. That was the first women’s match I can remember watching where there was genuine needle between the teams throughout. Perhaps it was because both teams knew the other was a real threat, but perhaps more likely a lot of the players had come up against each other a lot in the past for club and country.

Better still, sack Edwards and get her to Watford. After all, how many trophies has he won in the last week?

Yes tennis and other sports will suffer, which is a shame, but on the plus side the miserable ****s that run netball all over the land are truly ****ed.

Billy Bonds of West Ham was another one, some of his fouls were a bit more than niggly too. I remember him getting Ian Bolton sent off in the game when GT had just got us promoted to Div 2. Luther scored a brace and the West Ham fans charged across the pitch pre-match.

Our distant Germanic cousins probably watched old tapes of 1970s West Germany. Big strapping men rolling around as if they had been shot. This was the reason why anyone who is injured or pretending to be injured has to go off the pitch before being allowed back on. They also had the pass-back to the goalkeeper honed to a fine art and don't get me started on those bloody hooters they used to sound instead of singing and chanting.

The bad habits I was alluding too were more the delusions of grandeur, the over-rewarding of mediocrity and the unfair mass badgering of officials. To name but 3 off the top of my head.

I am fortunate in life to have gone to both Wembley on Sunday night (and a previous game at Brighton) and the Vic last night.

Not so much seen on this thread but I am saddened by the amount of "women on male football fans" and "men on women's football" slagging off on social media this past 48 hours. The Lionesses' win has sparked off clearly deep and widespread misogynistic and misandrist threads in equal parts. Which is sad to say the least. Especially by so many who never attend either.

Some ribbing by women on men failing to get the job done for over 50+ years and them coming in and getting the job done is absolutely fine. As is the call for the FA to capitalise on the triumph to encourage more girls into playing team sports and getting more fans to watch women's football. All good.

But leave the rest well alone. Both sides.

Women's football and men's football is different, end of, and for me that is perfectly the way it should be left. I absolutely loved being part of the historic occasion on Sunday and the team's performance and achievement should be celebrated. But boy did I enjoy our win over Sheffield and the atmosphere in the Rookery last night more.
