As someone who was stopped from playing for my junior school team by a head teacher* because I might " damage myself" I can say,to use the Virginia Slims tag line "you've come a long way, baby"!
    * Just a coincidence I'm sure that I'd scored the winner against his school!

What a likeable, professional, funny and talented group of people. Kelly’s celebration and post match interview was ******* sensational.

Absolutely chuffed to bits for them.

Can we bin off Southgate and the rest of those bottle jobs for the 2022 WC and send the Lionnesses instead?

Sell out at Boreham Wood next game - for Arsenal ladies?

In fact let's stop this now
Any patronising ******* who suggests sending the ladies to Qatar instead of the men is a clown .

Triggered much? Do I think the women would beat the mens team? No. The mens national team however act like a bunch of celebs first, footballers second. The women showed a lot more team spirit and passion this tournament and I would want to see more of that from the mens team. I'd also like to see a proven winner in charge of the team, not Southgate.

No one suggested the women would beat the men . This is your wet dream .
Stop comparing the woman's and elite mens game is my best advice

I think it’s meant as a joke isn’t it? But favourable to the woman as in they’d do a better job than the men?

    Better job ?
    Yep . No doubt .
However for balance the finances given towards the England ladies is way above as any other
nation . Which creates a different type of expectation .

Fantastic, another thing to add the list of things ladies love about me.

Being serious, from your post above on the financing in the Womens game, you probably know more about it than me - I only tuned in for a few games a couple of weeks back and found it enjoyable to watch. Standard isn't near the same as the mens, but with more support and funding it can only get better - however they've got a manager who's a winner, they act and play as if they want to be on the pitch wearing the shirt, and they appear to play for one another. I can't really say the same about the mens team who lost 4-0 at home to Hungary? Are you happy with the standard of the mens national team right now?

  25. I don't know why we need to turn it in to an anti men pro women agenda.

Talksport and BBC have both been fuelling it too tonight instead of just spending the night enjoying the victory.

The men's game is the men's game and the women's game is the women's game.

Forget 56 years of hurt or whatever. Let the women build their own history and records.

I live in a small town just outside Milton Keynes which isn't particularly well known, but has a few claims to fame - the home of Aston Martin (until recently), the oldest still trafficked iron bridge in the world, and now we have to honour of being the home town of only the second England captain in history to win a major trophy!

That little girl who started playing in the parks just outside my back door is now leading England to a European trophy. Just a few years ago my niece joined a summer camp and tried playing football, but felt she didn't fit in because everyone else was a boy... Now that very same niece will know in September she's starting at the same school that Leah Williamson went to, and that nobody can tell her football isn't for girls!

The whole town is buzzing, and I know for a fact it has changed one little girl's life - I can only imagine the impact it's had nationally. Leah for SPOTY 2022.

    THIS. ^^
Comparing mens and ladies football is a bit of a nonsense.
    Very different.
    Funding, opportunity, coaching etc.
And to beat Wayne Rooney’s record goal scoring record for England is only of passing interest.
    Very different.

The ladies have been excellent and the quality of play and tactics very impressive.
    Well done lionesses.
Hopefully it isn’t a passing party, and it springboards girls and ladies footie to a new level.

Speaking as a neutral (Irish), I’d say congrats to the lionesses first and foremost, but a lot of things just seemed to fall in their favour this tournament - it would have been a real opportunity missed if they failed to win it.

Spain without their (and the worlds?) best player in the quarters, plus other injuries - still largely bossed that match and looked to have it won till late on.

The Swedish goalkeeper having a mare. Until then Sweden certainly at least holding their own.

Popp doing a Ronaldo from 1998 in the Final. I think Bull was also still injured (she also also missed the semi). Despite this I thought on balance they were the slightly better side.

Then home advantage of course, and longer gaps between games in the latter stages. Incredible luck with covid / injuries compared to other sides - same starting XI named throughout the tournament?! Whoever gets to do that?

That all said, they had the talent and determination to get the job done - and the mens side seemingly had much of this in their favour last year as I recall, and still messed up at the death. Comparisons of the respective merits of the game are pretty silly, but the signs point to a superior mentality in this team, for whatever reason. I think there is a WC next year? Interesting to see how they fare.

Utterly brilliant but as a tennis player this is awful news for tennis and every other sport.
Female football will,if it's half organised, get huge increases in participation.
It already smothers almost all sport in these islands,Lord help us now.

First full game I watched, was very entertaining and a brilliant achievement. Certainly deserving of a bank holiday.

Bit of a shame it finished so close to the football season, will unfortunately be drowned out in the media by Ronaldo having a strop next weekend!
