Bloke at Esso said Manure are on the verge of offering us £2M plus Maguire for WTE. Let's face it, with the comical errors he makes for Manure he would fit right in our circus.
If we do sell WTE and look to bring in a homegrown RCB, who would people want? My top choice would have been Ampadu but it looks like he is heading to Italy. Probably would have to be a permanent too (if we bring in Archer or Ebosele). If a loan: Van Den Berg Tuanzebe Mengi Goode (maybe available on a perm?) Nathan Ferguson If a permanent: Cabango (but would be pricey and isn’t that good) Woofenden (Ipswich, but their new owners aren’t poor so he too would be more expensive than you’d think from League 1) Jack Hendry (Scottish lad playing in Belgium. Don’t think he’d be too expensive either but looks like he might be heading on loan to Serie A). Dom Iorfa - would be fairly cheap and Rob knows and likes him. Not sure he’s good enough and coming back off a big injury I believe. Rob ****ie - best player on this list but far too pricey, unfortunately.
Sort of sounds like you should be able to count this one out by your own reckoning. So, welcome to Watford, Ben Cabango!!!!
QPR fans said he seems to have been out of form for a good few months now, and judging by our last game they seem to be right - he was terrible against us. I'm not convinced any more he's the fix we need.
I am probably alone in this but I feel there is a more than capable championship defender inside Troost. Unfortunately his confidence is absolutely shot to pieces. You don’t go from being part of an incredible championship defence to a useless clogger within two seasons. Personally I would rather we kept him and tried to coax that player back out of him. He is a leader and we have very few of them in this team.
Certainly not alone there. We were a clean-sheet machine with Sierralta, Troost and Bachmann. Big difference was also having Hughes in the pivot and we miss that so much. Louza might be the solution but I feel we need that role more than a striker. So many times this season it feels like we haven't even got a midfield.
Genuinely, I think the only thing that kept him here was the fact he had to have surgery in the off-season, would have been an absolute no-brainer for a mid-table club to sign a young homegrown player for relative pennies. We complained at the time, but what would we do for players like Hughes and Chalobah now, or to wind back the clock 2 years on Cleverley, even a half-arsed Capoue, Gosling and Sánchez weren't bad!
But, in fairness, he was always just as dangerous throughout that period of record-breaking defence, too - as others have said, the opposition just found themselves unable to punish it, somehow. This time around, at least for the moment, I wouldn't want to be putting too many bets on the rest of our team to pull off that trick a second time in succession.
Yes you can because he wasn't even that good in the last campaign in the Championship. Bad finishing and good goalkeeping was the reason. Watch Norwich v Sunderland and tell me just once when one of our defenders defended like Hanley? One header over the bar and one in the stomach all because he refuses to turn his back on shots at goal. Probably won them the match with those bits of proper defending. QPRS first two goals wouldn't of gone in if FS hadn't turned away from the ball. It's that simple. WTE is possible the worst I've seen for doing this. It's a football not a cannonball.
Counts as home grown doesn't he?! Surely we will be replacing him then if we are looking at playing 3 CB's (hopefully we aren't) with another HG player? Leaving it late in the day.
Turned down a move to Turkey . https://theathletic.com/3572427/2022/09/07/william-troost-ekong-watford-turkey/
So long as he is in the squad will feel he can get a game I guess. Nice bloke and a genuine guy who cares but not really the answer to the defensive issues
One of those players you really wish could improve and be the player we need, but he doesn't have it, sadly.
My bro brought a neutral friend, amusingly, to the MK Dons game and he told me that WTE was fairly clearly at at-least-equal fault for both goals of theirs. This makes perfect sense, therefore.
Because he's very poor at everything he does on the pitch. His game has decreased and the only thing that will improve it is that he moves on. No guarantee that would even work.
Not a reason to hate him. He was integral during the promotions season of getting the squad together. He's not good at football but to hate somebody for that seems a little bit too much
I just feel sorry for WTE at this stage, his brain has probably turned to mush after what was a pretty harrowing season for him last season
Awful ability with the ball - but he still lead that line that took us up. And was fantastic off the pitch in that season. Could arguably be said we wouldn’t have gone up without that influence and we’d be in a dire position now as a club most likely. It’s bizarre to ‘hate’ him. Easier to want him to remain at the club but hope he doesn’t play.
I think he could still play a part this season. At championship level he certainly should be able to.
Maybe. But we will never know. In all honesty we could also of been in a hell of a lot better position than we are now too.
