I mean, I would argue that you should absolutely have that, and then just also have it for the Spurs fans; possibly have even more.

Imagine for a second Watford had sold Troy Deeney last summer. They then used the funds and brought in a new #9, which is who we’ve been watching this season. I don’t think there would be many people fighting his corner.

Deeney’s living entirely off past glories.

 

Considering how bad Troy is that doesn't look particularly good for Welbeck by comparison tbh, it says that Welbeck is better at running, but that's obvious. Most the differences aren't even that big. For Welbeck winning a higher %age of duels it could just be that we don't just aimlessly hoof it in the direction of his head so much, even when he's being double marked.

For xG, which is more important, they're pretty similar, and Deeney is actually miles ahead on xA which is a big indictment of Welbeck really.

As bad as Deeney has been this year, Welbeck has still been a big disappointment given his reputation.

Welbeck has looked good. You can see why he’s highly rated, but sadly you can also see why he’s known as being injury prone.

That’s not my point. Draw a line between Deeney 2010-2019 and Deeney 2019-20. He’d be judged harsher on his current form without having that good will of the years before.

But the point is he’s probably had more chances to score since the re-start than Troy had all season - and he wasn’t even picked all the time.

I’m just not sure what Troy contributes but I’m happy to listen to someone point it out to me. But when doing so, I’m talking about now and not 3 years ago.

 

He played well today in a deeper role...

 

Penalties and the occasional header when defending a set-piece. That's it.

 

TD has kept his place due to the lack of alternatives, not because he was great.

I wish we had given Pedro more time to see what he could do.

 

He contributed more then that, but not enough to be our main striker.

Very much came across like he fully expects a Premier League side to take him on.

Would somebody really buy him? They would have seen him play over the last couple of seasons and would also surely be aware of the baggage that comes with him. I can't see it myself, not for money.

 

In fairness I quite liked that interview.

You see it’s not about ‘hating’ Troy or any player. In fact I used to hate hearing any of of players get boo’d at games , can’t really understand it unless they have done or said something bad about the club.

People abusing players on social media is poor and again I’m not into that.

It’s just frustrating to see a player constantly used ahead of all others and spoken about constantly as the ‘main man’ yet delivering so little on the pitch.

I’ll always appreciate his good times here, but I do hope he moves on now.
