    So the B'Muff stats are:

Pens received 11, red cards for opponents 8 = 19 favourable decisions.

Pens against 1, red cards received 2 = 3 adverse decisions.

19 favourable decisions out of 22 then!

    Our record is:

Pens received 6, red cards for opponents 5 = 11 favourable decisions.

Pens against 5, red cards received 6 = 11 adverse decisions.

    Evens from 22 decisions then.

Anyone know what the Norwich figures are?

Anyway, I recently argued on here that it's no good claiming that we are in some way discriminated against as fact (not necessarily conspired against mind) and then back up that contention with cherry-picked incidents derived entirely from WFC sources and claim that as 'proof' of that contention. That's not to say it doesn't happen. Just that you'd need an objective account also utilising opposition sources as well as our own to show anything coherent statistically. The stats here though do not derive from any subjectivity. They are simply fact.

So we have our own very even record over 36 matches anf B'muff's very disproportionate one. As has been said, we are both very attacking sides so you might expect a similar record. They're not. All teams have players who are capable of 'simulating' and getting in the ref's face. We've seen one of our own do the former yesterday afternoon. But the claim on here is that B'muff and Norwich are doing both systematically. We have recent experience of this having cost us against both these sides.

So the contention is that, in B'muff's case at least, they're very well aware that they're the plucky little underdog who are the darlings of the media with their funny little stadium, location away from the centres of national football, with mostly homegrown players and a very personable, young British manager. So they're being cute and milking that goodwill to gain an unfair advantage with the blessing of their management. I suspect that the diving will be more advantageous than attempting to intimidate the ref and the lead actor would appear to be one Mr C. Wilson.

They are of course a very good team and would be challenging anyway. But without this unfair advantage they wouldn't currently be top.

P.S. I now see that I'm saying pretty much the same things as miked2006 in his #89 and #95.

I think PO was waiting for the requisite miked reposte to a post referring to Bournemouth's pole position. But it seems Kelso has taken up the baton ;)

Yes. We've been practising our exchange for a bit now. Dropped it a few times but I think we're getting the hang of it ...

Steve clown age on the football league show said that we had run into a little bit of form, a bit like saying when we are six points clear at the top that we have a chance of making the play offs!

Although I don't bet I often check, out of curiosity, on http://www.statto.com/football/odds/england/league-championship/winner

I know odds depends basically on how much people have bet on one team or another. Anyway, I see we are consistently the "underdog" since the beginning of season. Even now we are considered generally the less likely winner among the top 5.

    I like that!!!

If we keep winning, I'd be interested to see that change, and when. For instance, had we scored late on against Wolves and gone top--would we be favourites?

Brighton are 10000 to 1 for the title. Worth a punt?

Blackpool v Liverpool goes to replay. Brentford due to play them a week on Wednesday. I wonder if the replay will be that week instead.

Could put them a game behind.

Is it even mathematically possible for them? Not every club above them can lose every game!

It's Blackburn, and Tuesday. But yeah.

    Thank for the confirmation.

And thanks for not taking the obvious opportunity of taking the mickey out of my errors that some on here would :)

Derby and Boro's next 4 games are really hard. Be very interesting to see how they cope.

Not so much hard but in as much as that there will be guaranteed dropped points by promotion rivals. All we have to do is ensure we get 6 points before we face Ipswich.

General question. How are you all describing our current position in the league this morning with your work colleagues?

    1. Third?

    2. Equal top?

    3. Equal top but third on goal difference ahead of 4th on goals scored?

Somehow the non-footiers are not getting the third option.

  17. Third. It is what it is. We need to stick 10 past Reading on Saturday.

I was moaned at last week for suggesting we took our foot of the pedal during our matches at Fulham and home to Charlton and Rotherham and didn't try to get a rugby score. If the final table reads something like it does now and we miss out by one goal then we have no-one but ourselves to blame. If we find ourselves 4-0 with 20 minutes to go on Saturday (or any other match between now and the end) then we need to push for a 5th and more , end of.

Better than the England cricket team's. And our captain scores more than the England cricket captain.

True, but I think I replied to your comment (not moaned :)) that perhaps at 4-0 it would be better to take our foot off the pedal and manage the game out, saving our energy for the next fixtures, bearing in mind who is coming up? Would it not be better to be fresher for these games and get the 3 points, than getting the goals now but being more tired?

I suspect the way we play out games is exactly the same as every other club. We scored late goals against both Fulham away and Charlton home anyway. In fact, our recent run of form is largely predicated on scoring late goals.

Boro 1-1 Ipswich after 25 mins.

Personally hoping for an Ipswich win, don't think they'll be a threat for autos by the end of the season.

I guess it's partly due to it being on the telly but one half of the stadium looks entirely empty. I'm really pleased we play in a stadium that doesn't dwarf our attendance. It's a bit of an embarrassment really given this is a top game in the run in to the 'tightest championship race in years'.

How do Sky expect Ipswich fans to realistically get to Boro for 12? Their fans had to leave at about 4 in the morning, apparently.

Whoops. I doubt if Sky could care less. But it looks like more than just a lack of away supporters to me.

So a win for us today will put us 8 points above 7th place!

Boro doing their goal difference the power of good today, as well as going top. It's currently +3 better than ours.

Judging by this, our odds are finally starting to shorten for promotion! Derby and Norwich drifting, but Bournemouth are still odds on favourites:
