It's all kicked off over on Watford Twitter. The much threatened uprising appears to have begun and it's all a result of the club posting some screenshots of tweets that contain, what they believe, to be abusive comments about Jefferson Lerma.

Some people have defended the original tweets saying they weren't abusive and the official club admin has gone on a blocking spree which notably includes LouOrns.

The blocked rebels seem to be departing to follow the Spanish Watford FC twitter account for some reason.

Most worrying is that Bournemouth and Watford fans seem to be teaming up to confront the rebels, which seems to be making things worse.

It doesn't look like it's COGs vs Bedwetters anymore. A bigger, more frightening war has begun. Whoever wins, we lose.

    Stay tuned.

What Lerma did was unforgivable, but he plays for a side full of cheating charlatans. However, some of the tweets, especially the death threats and racial ones are totally unacceptable. He is a human being after the 90 minutes and deserves to be treated with respect and dignity after the game.

Be angry by all means, call him a cheat etc on social media but personally attacking him is never the right way to do things.

The “except Lema as he is a ....” is the guilty party I think.

Seems that Tweet from “George” isn’t intended to be directed as abuse towards Lema but a response to the Bournemouth fan above his tweet.

I'm guessing there's some real abuse floating around on twitter somewhere?

Just like the players on the pitch, people should have just ignored Lerma and his provocative tweets. Letting him and his cheating team wind us, and the players up, is never going to end well.

Having said that, there is absolutely no excuse for any racist abuse whatever the provocation.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the Bournemouth fan is replying to him, having done a Quote Tweet.

As we are mobilised, trained and experienced social media warriors, we will be courted by both parties in this conflict.

Do we join in or do we sit back and wait for them to destroy each other, then sweep up all that remains?

As a guideline for those unsure, which there seems to be plenty of on twitter. If someone is clearly opposing racism (or some other bigotry) and you feel the need to start a response pointing out that they're wrong for some reason, real or imagined, then have a very long think about why you need to point it out and what you think you're about to achieve. Even if you think you are clearly not defending racism, it's going to run a very high risk of looking like 'whataboutery'.

To be honest, it was a little bit strange by the club one of the tweets was by a 16-year-old lad and wasn't racist but the club has photoshopped to look like it was directly responding to another tweet when in reality it wasn't so now it looks 100x worse than it was. I am not sure why the club felt the need to photoshop the tweets especially outing a minor in the public eye.

I wonder how this would have panned out in real life in normal times.

I guess the equivalent would be some very angry fans hurling abuse at Lerma as he lay at deaths door (albeit with no assistance from Bournemouth physios). Then for him to get up and make a boo hoo gesture toward the Watford fans and a few to be kicked out for taking it too far.

I would hope in that situation Lerma would be sanctioned, as well as probably getting twatted by somebody.

It's a Quote Tweet! Bournemouth chap has replied to @georgebiigs (who in turn was responding to the EFL as you said).

I think the club have fallen into the same trap and assumed the conversation is the other way round.

The tweets provided by the club account as examples of abuse are pathetic, if you think someone's a t&at because they're dislikeable and cheated, you're allowed to. You don't have to like everybody!

Not liking him because he's black and abusing him because he's black is a different thing altogether but that's not what this fight is about.

Yeah it's a bit of an own goal. If they're going to use their platform to call people out it has to be much more blatant and unequivocal than this stuff. It's Twitter - it's not as if there's not enough of it out there!

A weird one. The EFL tweet just mentions general online abuse under the "Not Today or Any Day" campaign and makes no reference to racism, however the Not Today or Any Day campaign is actually mostly an anti racism campaign (https://www.efl.com/news/2020/septe...er 2019, the,is embedded throughout our Clubs.) - so perhaps the club are thinking these are racist jibes rather than people just calling Lerma a **** (not condoning that either but it's a lot better than a racial attack!)

Ah, he dreams of playing for Watford FC. That'll kick the club into gear. Considering they didn't bother apologising to the bloke who's played for the club the most times, I wouldn't hold their breath.

  25. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

That's because AFCBBrad or whatever has taken a screenshot of the tweet and posted it.

The club haven't photoshopped anything, they've just messed up their own screenshot so it looks fake. Mainly because the person who made the original comment either deleted his account or changed his name.

But unless AFCBBrad has faked it, it's legit.

We wait. Patience is key here. If we go wading in with our bedwetting, the message may get lost and we might actually turn people against us. Let's stay in our lane, cut our cloth accordingly. We'll be fine.

Ah the joy of Twatter. If the abuse directed was racist or threatening then fine get the police on to it.

Calling the ***** a cheating ***** and shitbag is fine. Because he is. He should be sanctioned by the authorities for his behaviour during and after the match. The WFC admin needs to get a grip if they are banning people based on people calling him that. LouOrns tweet was exactly that.

I refer you to my image in the match thread moog. The delineation is quite clear. You can direct abuse to an individual on the basis of their actions. Vile cheating scumbag for instance.

Can someone who understands these things explain, is this another own-goal by the club's bungling PR team?

I don't think so. I think the club have this one right. People are nit-picking to try and deflect.

The blocking of fans that are doing the nit-picking is a bit weird. But they seem to block fans at random anyway.
