Not back long, thought that was a good professional performance from us in a game we controlled throughout. City had a number of changes but it should still give us some confidence. First half we were ponderous in possession and like a number of times this season the ball kept going back/sideways. Second half much better. Pleased to see Troy score from open play. Special mention to the two young kids sitting behind me in row c of the Rookery. I guess they normally sit in the family stand but they sang their hearts out from start to finish today and even the 1881 seemed to take notice at one point.
I was there......and was there again today.....and will be there tomorrow to watch the kids in the FA Cup....coyh.
Yes but that was expected United couldn't put away Bristol city with pretty much their first team I'm going to dine off the small victories all year
Why would I? He didn't make any ****ups like Atkinson, Oliver, Moss, Probert, Dean and Taylor do in most of their matches. Craig Pawson is one of the good guys. He makes honest and correct decisions most of the time. I'm always happy when we get someone like him officiating our games because I know he's not contentious.
.....and what major mistakes has he made in Watford games which have cost us matches? If he officiates our games well, then he's ok by me....that's all I care about.
Absolutely. All three of our goals could have been disallowed and they could have had a penalty. Another day and another ref, we lose 1-0.
Quite a nothing game but it’s nice to win and get into the next round. Thought we played as expected against a much changed BC side who did have one chance with the header off target. The morale boost we hope it’s gives the team going into a massive game against Southampton on Saturday should however not be taken for granted. Made me smile when the Luton result came through which was a nice bonus. Deeney looked much better after his goal but I’m still not convinced he should start next game.
So who would you guys like to get in the next round in the draw tomorrow night? I wouldn’t mind Newcastle away or even Coventry away. Neither tie is easy but I loved the Ricoh Arena las time we went.
Well that explains why you feel we're so victimised by the referees you're talking about then. You're only interested in a very limited sample of matches (the Watford ones). If you bothered to pay attention to the wider lot you'd see they're all pretty consistently average. But because Pawson has only turned up for 4 of our PL matches out of nearly 100 since promotion he's off your radar and in the clear. Aside from the Spurs let offs Pawson has attracted plenty of ire in his time: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...pawson-stripped-new-years-eve-game-liverpool/
My Dad told me to drive as if everyone on the road was a half wit. I have always applied the same thought to tennis umpires and now it appears, football referees. One can then be pleasantly surprised when you don't notice them!
Last time I went we lost 5-0 and my brother Paul ate all of the last pie, didn't even leave me the crust!
I remember us getting thrashed away at Coventry 4-0 when they had that ace team full of north Africans. Depressing times.
Of course I see other games. I watch a lot of football, not only in England but in other countries. I know the standard of refereeing in England is one of the worst in Europe. Does the fact Pawson did not sent off players, in a Tottenham match when he should have, spoil my weekend? No, of course it doesn't, why should it. I guess it spoilt yours for some reason? There are certain referees that constantly give Watford a hard time. I know these are and so do you. No one can deny, with any credibility, that Martin Atkinson's decisions haven't cost Watford 5 points this season. There are far too many examples where decisions have been wrong. Big things like awarding offside goals. There have been three scored by Man City over the two games, Huddersfield's first goal and Swansea's first goal. Burnley scored two valid goals disallowed and Britos' goal against Liverpool. That's 8 goals in our games alone. These are the easiest things to quantify as they are factual and not open to opinion. Refereeing in this country needs a major overhaul. I'm not saying Watford are on the receiving end all the time, but the balance is not at all even, and never seems to be even in seasons past. The last two seasons have been ok, so this is not something that's been a problem since promotion, until now. We had a lot of issues with decisions in the Championship, but I put this down to the standard is much lower in that league. For some reason, refereeing standards have dropped dramatically. Officials are making the most basic of errors. It's not just me saying this, it's being mentioned by many within the game.
