Would have gone with 'well, the only positive is the scoreline', but it barely is much of one given the prior-to-the-game-predicted Norwich 2.0 effect it will undoubtedly have on us. Imagine if we were playing an even half-competent team; one that hadn't lost 5 of their last 6 games.
Suspect it's the tactics, it's not just this game we've been ahead at half time playing fairly well only to play like we're looking to protect what we have in the second half
An awful win. Who cares if we win if that's how we do it? Just f*king painful to watch over and over and over again.
"How to make a comfortable win seem uncomfortable" , by Watford FC. Kabasele man of the match by far, saved two certain goals.
We sat back and would have been made to pay by a better side. We are some way off a Promotion side. The obvious weakness is the forward line, but the bigger issue is the lack of urgency
Not going to be churlish and knock a win, but disappointing to be 2-0 up so soon and then to not go on and win big. Mind you by Ivic’s standards, a two goal victory is actually fairly big. First time all season we’ve settled for two goals by the way, and not gone on to score more from that position. Something is still missing I feel, and we don’t look like a serious quality promotion side. Again I stick to my view that a really decent attack minded Coach could get more out of this squad than the current incumbent.
We're going to get promoted playing the dullest football ever aren't we? Wonder if Emma and Will are banging yet?
Textbook Jeckly and Hyde performance. Still, a solid 3 points where we never looked overly threatened so let's just roll onto the next game. Have to say our current CB pairing is very good.
Well, it's happened. We've won 2-0 and I simply don't care. I hate the owners. I hate most of our players and I utterly despise our coach and how he has us play. There's little joy to be got from the way we go about things and I'm past trying to find any semblance of it. Go up/don't go up. I don't see how we can transform this squad, this coach, the overall culture of our club. I've just got tired of it all now.
First of all, three points, not to be sniffed at, and the first half performance was good even if it's only Rotherham. Second half...very tentative, suspect it was a tactical decision, but I'm not sure what's worse, playing like that because we want to, or playing like that because we've been forced to...
Poor performance against a poor team. People will say the result is important. However the second half with just Perica wasting a chance is not good enough. How you finish a game or hammer home an advantage when you are up early 2-0 is so important. GT would have been angry after that not delighted or pleased. Had Rotherham more dash and daring or a better finisher we would have been exposed again. How Sema stayed on for as long as he did is the big mystery this evening. The same faults evident in many games were much in evidence in the second half. Critically slowing down the match to a snails pace. Are they not fit ? Or lazy ? Or did Ivic tell them to maintain a clean sheet or preserve energy ?
NAIL ON THE HEAD... Sorry but it is our midfield that's the problem, and as much I like Challobah.. He's just not good enough or fit enough... 100pct one paced. Hughes is the only one I rate as a "proper" midfielder, and even he's a little bit lightweight. We need a LB and a good centre midfielder in January.
Good point. Is it Ivic telling the players to sit back? Is Ivic reverting back to his defensive style he is now known for? We need to up the tempo and go for the kill in the second half. The players should come off the pitch looking like they have played a game not as if they have taken a stroll along the beach. Ok, we won, but it does not put to sleep to the doubts that we are a poor side in a very weak Championship.
It’s even better if you ignore the match completely and just check the scoreline at the end. On that basis, a good win.
Well a win is a win. First half was an improvement and we created several good chances but my God that second half. Rotherham were dreadful but we matched them after half time.
We are just so meh. First half was good against a really poor Rotherham side. Going in 4 up wouldn't have been flattering. Second half was just absolutely dire. Said on the shoutbox that it feels like they said job done at half time and mentally f;cked off home to save themselves for Saturday. How we are 3rd and a point off top is beggars belief, especially when we've played 7 of the top half. Especially when we've also played the bottom 8 picking up only 3 wins
I missed the two goals and only saw from about the 30th minute onward, annoyingly. Glad for the win and back up to 3rd, but it all still looks terribly unconvincing. Nothing in that match that I've seen makes me think Ivic will get us promoted. If the owners really aren't going to sack him, then all we can do is hope its not just the same as the Preston game whereby we won because our opposition was just fairly rubbish. But our lack of any sort of fluency or attacking in the 2nd half is worrying. I assume we're away next... we all know what that means....
My brain can't compute it. We're not very good, we play horrible football but somehow we're one point off the top. Is Ivic some kind of evil genius, torturing us by keeping us in contention with the dullest football going? This league is bloody awful. Imagine if we went up, we'd need a whole new starting eleven.
That match summed up perfectly in the last 30 seconds where Chalobah REFUSED to take the free kick we had. We’re 2-0 up for crying out loud man, get the ball in the ******* box and at least try to make the game exciting. First half looked decent. Had control of possession and two okay goals. Was looking fairly positive until half time... What on earth was said in those 15 minutes..? 2nd half was so boring. We were devoid of any ideas.. What’s more worrying is that 2nd half performance is what we’re seeing more of this season. We will NOT get promoted playing that way. Simple as.
Wat Rot. An apt description of the club and game. I am not watching the Brum game. Awful football from an awful manager.
Vlad must have told them to sit back and let Rotherham on to us. I am sure Troy and co would have wanted more goals. They totally dominate after the break as much as we did the 1st.
'1 point off the top' is a false position really, considering neither Reading nor Norwich have played this gameday yet, and they could go either 3 or 4 points ahead with a win.
First half we were quite good, two goals and we were dominant. Should of been 4, but tbf they did defend well after our second. WTF was said at halftime? That was almost Cardiff again but without the goal. Kabs was great tonight, one of his best performances of the season. Rotherham might be piss poor but my god why invite it? Did Ivic say take it easy, jobs done? Look what If it wasn't for some good blocks that could of ended 2-2. Such a backwards gameplan. We start really well, why not keep up the pressure after the break? C'mon Ivic man up. We did win though, but has it only papered over how crap we have been since Preston? Will be very interesting to see how we play at Brum. Muff drew so we gained on them. Just dissatisfied Ivic had to put the brakes on, we were clearly the better side before the break A win but hardly convincing.
Lads we are winning comfortably. I want you to stop attacking and preserve your energy for the rest of the season. Keep passing the ball backwards and sideways. Ismaila make sure you stay offside as much as possible to help the time wasting. Ken keep running up blind alleys and losing the ball. Doc says your fitness levels are going up. Kiko and Jeremy make sure you don't cross the half way line. Two nil is a fantastic result. All I wanted was one nil.
It's a division filled with clogging sides. Not much ability but plenty of good intentions and hard work. However the sides with the extra quality like Norwich with Buendia and Cantwell in the middle of the park, cheats FC with Bruks and Brentford with Benrahma and Mbeumo are coming into their own. Grimes at Swansea as well. We have nothing in midfield but one paced cloggers. Crapobah useless. Cleverly not much better. Crapoue cannot be bothered. Hughes is just back. Tremendous.
1st half good shooting from all over the pitch, 2 good goals, although it won’t be popular think Deeney did well , scored ,assisted , nice chest down to perica (he had a good shot blocked), nice chest down to cleverly. Sarr and ngakia looked good with nice early crossed into the box, Kiko looked good, sorry not so sure about sema, has skill but was loosing it a lot. Midfield looked ok were driving us forward. 2nd half back to the same old ****, ******* around, not crossing into the box, not driving forward , letting them get at us, I thought a couple of the Sarr offsides were a bit harsh Overall Disappointing thought we were going to get at least 4 if not more Saturday We go again , what will happen who the **** knows
Twice just after half time we had the ball wide left just over the halfway line, and the midfielder popped a pass forward to a spot that a team mate had just vacated.! (once at least was Challobah). Once again evidence our midfield just want to roll the ball about instead of looking for players movi g into space...
Went pretty much how I expected to then really, minus them scoring. Another game of treading water then, our stock is about as high (or low, if you insist) as it was 2 and a half hours ago
