Well that's a bit of a kicker, they weren't looking like doing anything apart from that gift of a goal. Bachmann will rightly take some of the blame, but those in front didn't cover themselves in glory neither

I’ll tell you what, Bachmann’s done a bang up job since being randomly put back into the team. Really doing great.

Lewis with a poor clearance, Kone dodging the 50/50, weak defending by someone else as the ball came back towards the box and then Bachmann with a foul. Proper team effort!

So, this is pretty much how we lined up in the first half and as long as the full backs keep pushing up Coventry have no answer. Their only threat is to pump balls up towards Wright and Simms to try and create something on their own. Proper pub team from the 90s. We should have been two or three ahead by half time, if only we were sharper in and around the box. upload_2024-3-9_17-7-53.png

Mooney questioned Bachmann's positioning for that goal, but to be fair to him, why wouldn't he be slap bang in the middle of the goal when nobody was helping him?

This is it for Val then probably.

Been better today but still losing .

Poor goals to give away .

Would be a lot more positive about this if we hadn't burned very winnable home games against Huddersfield and Swansea

The opposite order to how we usually go about things at home - started with a really positive mentality and took the lead, then shot ourselves in the foot later on. Result the same as usual. But maybe we should change ends at kick-off as a matter of course going forwards?

Bachmann was lucky to keep his place after the last game, he has to be dropped again now. Another piece of brainlessness costing us points. Andrews and Asprilla were both very wasteful again.

Chak was again our best player and him being taken out was a big blow. We missed his drive in the second half. Let's hope it's not a serious injury. We'll also now have Hoedt missing for the next two games after a pointless yellow card- with today having been the final game before suspensions for 10 yellows gets wiped out. That is also a big blow.

Kayembe looking a bit closer to his best was a slight positive. And Kone also started well before fading.

As with most our games this season it's hard to fault the effort, but we lacked quality and composure in the final third. It was also another pretty tight game where it wouldn't have been unfair to have gotten more from but we failed to do so.

Didn't deserve to lose that. We were miles better than Coventry, who are one of the dirtiest teams I've seen all season. Eccles should have been sent off for that brutal tackle on Chakvetadze - didn't even get a free kick.

We now look like the team we were back in September, playing well but lacking that cutting edge in the final third. It's a massive improvement from the horror shows against Huddersfield and Millwall, but still no points.

Utterly predictable. Huff and puff and can't blow Coventry down. Andrews had a stinker, ref was abysmal, everyone taking the wrong touch or an extra touch. As the game progressed we erred back with the easy options far far too often. Take a touch and play it back to Bachman. Who then hoofs it up and we lose the ball again.

Martins did ok. Better than Dennis who frankly I don't recognise from 2 years ago aside from a useless backheel or flick every now and then.

That game underlines how much football is a mental game as much as physical.

We were the better team but they believed they could win where as we are in the habit of losing.

As soon as they scored their first then I couldn't see us getting another one.

Based on that performance, we are good enough to survive but I think we now need another manager to get the players to believe that too.

I couldn't (be bothered to) make it today, but the stats tell their own story.

We dominated possession, had the most shots, most on target and completely won the attack momentum battle (I think, I have no idea how to interpret this ********):

All told it sounds like a solid day at the office and it feels like we're turning a big corner.

Let's not forget that just under 37 years ago, Coventry were winning the FA Cup, so they're not gonna be an easy team to beat.

    Decent result all round.

A suddenly improved and non-shameful effort, which is the opposite of what can be said for Coventry in the violence stakes, but one that basically elevated us to 'the level we should be as a team playing at home', by which I mean, average, rather than despicable.

Again, props to Bobby Madley, gunning for redemption by putting in one of the weakest refereeing performances you ever will see. Attwell who?

As I said in the Shoutbox, if we lose that game, having spent a portion of it playing decently, and little of it playing utterly absymally, we should be fairly concerned as to where any further points are going to come from.

Second round of props goes to Val for inexplicably replacing Hamer for no reason in the first place, then stubbornly sticking to it despite the result of the initial decision (Flapmann making a characteristic blunder to help lose us the game). And, guess what the end result is! #Leadership

That was some of the best football we have played since last played well (insert what game that was here), but it didn't take long for the old Watford to rear it's ugly head did it? I thought we deserved our lead by the flying Scotsman. Then Bachmann had another moment of madness and we concede the leveller five minutes before the break. Second half was pretty average until we go to sleep on a corner kick and give their man half of Hertfordshire to take his time and pick his spot for the winner. Did very little to try to get back into the game after that.

Dennis looks like he needs another two weeks of training, he looks seriously flat and devoid of any confidence, I was glad he was hooked early second half. Referee was a total bell end today. How many crunching tackles was he going to let them get away with? One on Chaz could of broken his ankle ffs. Then a moment later, Asprilla gets the same treatment and nothing is done to punish either foul. Coventry were very dirty today in the sense they knew we were the better side early on so decided to foul our good players and get them off the pitch. Terrible way to play the game but the referee will def. be on their Xmas card list this year.

Second goal, first glance I thought Bachmann was more at fault due to it being in the near corner but had our defenders been more alert that shot gets blocked and we come away with at least another point. As it is, we lose again at home and are still looking over our shoulders. It's a real shame how the game panned out because I thought we actually did alright early on and it was looking much more like the Watford of old.

Is that it for VI? No I don't think it is. He's probably got the Birmingham game to get some sort of result and if that is the same result it gives Gino two weeks to get the next scape-goat in. Another low attendance today just like midweek, so it seems the vote with your feet campaign is in full swing. Not sure how VI can change things up, and you cannot predict the other side to be so hack heavy either. Need a response now next weekend. Lose that one, and regardless of other results his time must surely be up.

Got to be it for him.

The first 35 minutes were as good as we've played for months. Even after the penalty we still had time to get another. But VI'S subs are damning. Moving Dennis out wide when he looked so good with movement and pressing instead of either Martins or Bayo after Chakvetadze injury ruined our press and allowed Coventry a comfortable second half.

VI out. Today we've seen out best XI and performance wasted with bad substitutes and stubborn formation.

Coventry won that by kicking us off the park. Chakvetadze was our most effective player before he was taken out the game. I also wouldn't be surprised if Dennis was feeling the effects of the one he took.

I think Val needs to go. I really liked him earlier in the season but he just seems so apathetic on the touch line now. I just can't see him getting us any more points.

I am very nervous about the rest of the season.

Replacing Val won’t change anything as we just don’t have a quality set of players

Dennis has got to play down the middle

Just like Bachmann coming off his line for once for the Andrews OG, it's cruelly ironic that the one time Porteous doesn't defend ultra-aggressively, we concede. Not his fault mind you, nobody was covering Wright (Kayembe probably should have been there). Bayo did his job, I thought he held the ball up very well, but him coming on did change our gameplan a bit, Ince should have come on for Chak in what would have been pretty much like for like

I must be in a minority as I thought the ref did really well in the first half. There were a couple of big challenges on Georgi and Denis that went unpunished and that “welcome to the game” challenge on Martins was very poor.

Georgi was so positive today and we really missed him in the second half. I’d have like Martins or maybe Grieves to have come on for him and left Denis up the middle.

    Bachman……………

A better performance than last time i thought but the usual defensive lapses and lack of quality in and around their box cost us again. Cant blame Val for this defeat, he put out more or less our best team and the system worked fine overall.

As I say, Bayo coming on, as well as I thought he did, messed up the delicate balance we had in the first half, I thought Ince should have been on for Chak. Going forward we have serious problems with the final pass/finish, but we're still able to score goals, but whereas Millwall have found their groove simply by stopping the other team, we just seem to find new and creative ways of conceding. I don't think we've defended badly overall of late, but if Hamer were in goal we'd almost certainly have at least 3 more points, and we seem to be being punished for our errors,

Very good first 35-40 minutes and we really should have been 2 or 3 up by then.
Playing someone down the middle up top whose very presence worries CBs is a wonder
stroke by the Gaffer . No cigars out for the Coventry defence during the first half. I'm sure this
new tactic will catch on and every team will do it . Because they couldn't leave Dennis 1 on 1 this left
space for Chak and others to exploit.
That said Bayo actually played well when he came on .

Great first half hour. Best performance for ages. But then we wilted big time and never really got going at all in the second half. The fact Coventry were largely unthreatening and we contributed heavily to both their goals was an extra kick in the plums. As others have said that all adds up to pretty much the most damaging blow for morale, when you feel like you’ve given everything and still not succeeded, and I can’t see how Val can recover it from here.

Not that I really want him to have the chance to. Performances have been far too fragile for too long and you can’t keep your job if you can’t get wins at home. And for someone who plays such a rigid tactical system it’s unforgivable how many times players end up out of position, not closing down or just flapping their arms at one another while an opponent runs past into space. Their winner came about in a move where all of sudden no one seemed to be tight or know who to mark or even where to move, ending up in basically a free shot for their striker. Absolute joke given where we are in the season.
