Is it even a good thing they all play each other. Sure they will take points off each other, but as a collective they will still have more point scoring opportunities than if they were playing Leeds and Ipswich every week.
Coventry "building over a number of years"? You mean over the 8 seasons they spent bouncing around League One and Two, during which time we were mostly in the Premier League? That is rather "polar opposite" I suppose. The Coventry who lease their stadium and couldn't play any home games at the start of last season due to a contractual dispute? The Coventry who were last in the PL over 2 decades ago? Sure they have a new owner as of last summer, but they're not exactly that wealthy either as far as club owners go. They may beat us this weekend, but I don't think Coventry fans have had a particularly good time of things.
Some fair points, but they are certainly moving in a generally upward direction, with optimism and some much needed stability. We, on the other hand, are not .
45 would have kept us up last season. 38 the season before (unbelievable!). 44 the season before that. I don't think we'll need 50 but that's good as at this rate we'll never get that!
We're shyte but we're not going down, the season ended for us after the Cardiff loss and we'll finish mid-table comfortably.
There are *probably* too many teams below us for it to be really damaging, Plymouth and Blackburn are on stinking runs of form for example. Just like the season under Wally though, I think we burned our last game where we'd be reasonably considered to be favourites against Swansea, 10 defeats would be unlikely, but 0-1 wins plus a few draws isn't exactly out of the picture
If you just take the last 5, us and Blackburn have 4 points (along with Bristol City, who like us aren't out of it), Plymouth have 3. I think it's unlikely they'll produce a run of form to overtake us unless we really throw in a stinking last 10 games...
You’d genuinely argue that night was day, they got to the play off final last season and are in and around them again this season. Compared to all their years in the wilderness in league one that you yourself highlight, they’re clearly on an upward trajectory in terms of league position, it’s pretty mental to argue otherwise and also very confusing as to why you’d bother?
Expect a goal fest. We have scored 28 at home, they have 28 goals away. We have conceded 24 at home, they 25 away So 105 goals in the respective 36 home and away games. It will be something silly like 4-4
I cannot believe or last home League win was that 3-2 comeback victory over Norwich. I know our home form during our last foray in the PL was sickening, but this is pretty close to that. Maybe it's the pressure from the crowd to perform? Either that or they crumble under the watchful eye of the Hertfordshire faithful.
We will lose. Or meander to a lame draw. Either way, kinda past caring. Ismael will be sacked. Again, past caring. Even the desire to see us keep a manager has been drummed out of me. I just find the whole thing so hard to be even remotely enthusiastic about anymore.
I'll refer you again to the comment which I was responding to: "0-3... two polar opposite clubs. Coventry building over a number of years" plus: "and an owner with the best interests of the club at heart" Firstly - "a number of years" obviously means more than one year. The current owner has only been at the club one year. Prior to that, for the first half of last season they had the same owners who took them over in 2007... so if you're counting what their owners did over "a number of years" they took over a club in 2007 that was in the bottom half of the Championship, then got them relegated - they "built" a side that spent 7 seasons in League One and 1 season in League Two - before they finally got them back in the Championship again 3.5 years ago. It's completely absurd to try and boast about being on an upward trajectory, or building something, when the owners had sent them on such a downward trajectory, or accidentally burned the place down, to begin with. And despite all that, the peak of what the previous owners managed was a side which later in the season under the new owner reached the playoff final but didn't get promoted. Which ultimately is not having achieved something hugely important. Currently the new owner in their first full season has them below where Coventry finished last year. I dread to think how toxic this place would be and would have been if the highlight of the last 15 years was reaching a Championship playoff final, with the club still unlikely to make a return to the PL in the next season after having not been there for 23 years. It's very confusing why you'd bother to make this interjection, but as inevitably as night follows day you follow me around to make a clueless comment.
That line up might work if we avoid Dennis and Asprilla being too close to the sideline. If Bayo and Dennis occupy the top two positions and try and run their defenders ragged, playing right across the line, and Asprilla playing in a central role between midfield and forwards, we could cause them some problems. But that would be a significant change of system and may weaken our defensive set up. VI won’t alter things and I think it will be Dennis and Asprilla playing as wingers, which neither of them are.
They have had 3 home grounds in the last ten years. And now have a five year agreement to rent The CBS off Mike Ashley who will likely be charging them a significant fee to play at The CBS.
What you’re describing is essentially a 4-4-2 diamond which is really hard to pull off against what I expect will be a 3-4-1-2 from Coventry. Either you forfeit the wide areas or push up the full backs leaving our two center backs isolated with two strikers. To play Asprilla behind a front pair of Dennis and Bayo would probably require switching to three at the back and going 3-4-1-2 ourselves, but I have yet to see that work for us. It has been tried under Edwards, Wilder and occasionally VI (Boro at home springs to mind). I do however like the idea of Dennis and Asprilla moving into more central positions from a starting point out wide.
Can’t be bothered with this game so will instead occupy my time drinking heavily and considering who will be making our kits next season…
Good post IMO . What is the worst that could happen ? We have to try and be more pro active up top than reactive (pressing)
Huddersfield Plymouth and Brum all are yet to play Rotherham If we give them 3 points for that , which is not a given admittedly, then that makes our position a little more precarious.
Has anyone heard this rumour about Dean Austin whastapping during the game the other night slagging off our team???
