It was no look. He didn't check where the goalie was before performing the action. A headed pass is still a pass. If you don't know where you are or where your GK is then safety first and just put the ball out, don't stick it between the posts when you're in a muddle. "If in doubt, put it out" - it's one of the first things you learn playing as a defender. It's schoolboy stuff.

That's hilarious. Robins will say something along the lines of Saturday being a difficult game etc but he knows we're absolute sh1te!

Should pin this up in the dressing room! If this doesn’t give Val and the players a kick up the backside they need, then nothing will. Sadly I expect our spineless bunch to continue to crumble for all remaining games.

I like Denis but why on earth didn’t Val sub him off (or make any other late changes) things weren’t going for him and he look knackered.

Few rumblings at present, nothing concrete. Doubt it will be before the weekend given how soon that game comes around.

But I know he’s very, very much on the edge. If we beat Coventry and Birmingham, he’ll have bought more time I guess…but I still think it’s now a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ he leaves. Beat Coventry but lose to Birmingham and I think he’ll be gone in that international break afterwards.

Fail to beat Coventry and I think he’s gone. Then it’ll just be whether we hire straight away, get an interim in for Birmingham and hire during the international break or just have someone mind the shop until the end of the season.

If it was Martinez for instance, I think he’d rather come in the summer which could sway our thinking.

But yeah…he’s on the edge for sure. I always advised caution when the Talksport story broke. I’m less confident doing that now.

If only we pressed their centre backs as well as they pressed ours. They looked shakey when pressed by more than 1 yellow shirt.

Often thought the message would be to other teams, outwork Watford and you’ll win.

Good to see it’s a literal laughing point between coaches.

So we've gone from the Hoedt and Andrews incidents being the same to 'a header is a pass'. This forum is absolute gold at times! I've heard of doubling down but this is the first real-life incident of quadrupling down I've ever seen. All this just to avoid blaming Bachmann for racing off his line at a hundred miles an hour.

No one is saying Andrews is blameless, merely that the original position – mining the forum for comments rightly critical of Hoedt – was a ludicrous one.

But, hey, I'm off to read the headed pass completion stats.

If this is going to turn into a semantic argument – and I can tell from the discussion so far that it very well might – if a header is a pass how come a goalkeeper can't handle a back pass but can handle a header? Eh? Eh?

I really am out now! It's been fun. Well, not fun, but certainly amusing.

If it's left until after the Coventry and Birmingham games it's giving the new manager crappy fixtures to make a mark in, mind.

One way or another he surely won't be here next season. As you suggest it's maybe a case of whether we think he can keep us up this season so we can perhaps get in our preferred manager in the summer. Or whether there are any interim managers available who will actually manage to have a positive influence.

I think an interim would come from within from what I’ve heard.

Rajovic is comfortably one of the worst players to ever grace the Vic! Absolutely f**king useless. Even stooped to new lows tonight by pulling out of a 50/50 (well 60/40 in his favour)!

Bachmann underlining why he's been second choice for most of the season. Total moron charging off his line when the ball was nowhere near our goal and Andrews had it under control! It's a simple back pass header and Bachmann made a very rash decision to come off of his line and cost us a goal!

Can't compare the Hoedt one with that! Not even comparable! Hoedt's was clumsy on his part and Bachmann not at fault for that, however, Bachmann totally at fault for that one! Rule number one as a goal keeper, if you're going to come off of your line you need to win the ball! Stranded in no mans land like a c**t.

Bored of all of this now.

Yeah we will probably sack Val, appoint another loser and sack him before xmas. What's the point? In our DNA innit.

Any idea on Martinez … waiting for him until the summer is fine by me, I’d rather wait for the preferred option. Do you know if he has been spoken too and has indicated he is willing to come in the summer ?

Luckily for us the dullards up top extended his contract after 10 games this season. The stewardship of our once great football club is disgraceful. I know we've spoken before that it might be more symbolic than involving a huge payoff but you can't tell me it won't cost us something if they tin him now.

Same for throw ins. I don’t recall them losing the ball once from their own throws but we can’t have retained the ball more 25% of the time from ours.

A headed pass is still a pass. A headed attempt at goal is still an attempt at goal. A headed clearance is still a clearance.

Literally the first sentence of wikipedia for 'Header':

"A header is a technique that is used in association football to control the ball using the head to pass, shoot, or clear. " ....

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Header_(association_football)

Wyscout - one of the professional data sources used by reids and others, also has the term "head pass" in its glossary for used expressions:

"An attempt to pass the ball to a teammate using the head."

    https://dataglossary.wyscout.com/head_pass/

I think that concludes this little "semantic argument" pretty comprehensively.

Except quite a few posters here have said it's "entirely" or "100%" Bachmann's fault - both in this thread and in the shoutbox. That's mainly what I'm railing against to be honest. The fact it's absurd how people are ignoring Andrews' part in the thing and that he was also at fault.

It’s just not a heavy touch though. It’s a cushioned header to where the hapless absent keeper should be. The one who’d already had an even worse rush of blood to the head ten minutes earlier.

It wasn't very "cushioned" though, it still went at a fair pace. It may have left his head at a similar speed to which the ball was played to begin with. Even if Bachmann hadn't run so far out he could well have struggled to comfortably catch it where and how it was played.

I'm not saying Bachmann wasn't also at fault for needlessly sprinting so far out his goal, but pointing out that Andrews shouldn't have played a ball like that when he was clearly clueless.

That first half was incredibly poor. Couldn’t deal with their press and shat the bed every time a Swansea player came near us. Comical goal to give away- if you’re going to come off your line like that then give Andrews the biggest shout in the world as he was always going to head it.

Second half was much better- not that the bar was very high. Chakvetadze’s energy and directness made a difference and Kone had a good half too. Asprilla had a shocking game and should have scored at least twice.

VI has at least bought himself a few more days but fail to beat Coventry (a much harder task, they’re miles better than Swansea) and I think it’s curtains.

True of last season maybe but dont think attitude or effort is the problem with this squad. They looked lacking in confidence, not for the first time recently, in that first half mixed with some square pegs in round holes and one or two players who simply arnt good enough
