He's just been incredibly fortunate as he was again on saturday. 4 shots in 90 mins against a very poor side but gifted a penalty....again.
An average of 2 shots on target per game over the last 4 against Rotherhan, Brum, NF and Cardiff. In those 4 games the opposition have had 8 shots more than us.... 4 poor to average teams, 10th, 16th, 20th and 21st.
This run of luck can't last, performances must improve.

I will counteract you all by emitting a noise reflecting a balanced view of being encouraged by the league position but weary of the playing style.

It sounds much like a goat shrieking in pain.

Has it be mentioned before that our performance seems to have dropped as the number of English Players have increased (in case this seems like a dodgy post I think it’s reverse xenophobia)

You're very keen. I'll check the score later in the week and then post something sarcastic about Deeney, Ivic, possession stats and the number of shots on target.

Surely for HMS Pisstheleague to be a thing, we should be ******* the league? Or within a whisker of doing so at least?

Even the most depraved of people on here can't hope for better than scraping into the playoffs and somehow pulling it off.

I hope ivic goes for it and we don’t all have to waste 90mins of our precious time.

Its a bit ridiculous that we're close to the top having done little else than grind 1-0's and played so ineffectively, even at home we've been lucky a few times.

I dont think we can keep that going for the whole season so its either got to change or we tail off and watch Norwich or Bournmouth or Reading disappear over the horizon... We've gained more points than our performances valued and it's been garbage to watch on top!

More of the same tonight? Nope. I predict 5-1 for the horns. Deeney hat-trick Pedro and Perica.

This is how I see us too, but that's testament to the reduction in quality in the Championship in general. It's a shadow of the league it used to be 5 years ago when we were last in it. Maybe some of that can be attributed to the lack of crowd making the matches seem much more mundane, but virtually every club we've played this season have been a carbon copy of the team before. It's like we're playing the same side every week, but they wear different shirts.

We are very strong defensively and only Swansea have conceded fewer goals than us. Where we're doing well is keeping it tight, then we have one moment of quality or luck which has seen us either get an undeserved win or draw. This has happened so many times this season.

I've worked out on just performances, what I've felt we've deserved from games, we should be on 20 points. We are actually on 33, so that's a massive upgrade on what we should have. Lots of things have gone our way though. For once referees are giving us a lot of decisions. That's not happened for years and has a huge impact on results. Small moments at key times have gone our way too like the point blank miss by Luton, the goal Cleverley was awarded against Coventry, the disallowed goals at Wycombe and QPR, the post hit by Brum, that amazing goal by Pedro, those wonderful performances by Foster against Wycombe and Blackburn. In fact Foster has made so many key saves that we'd be sunk without him.

For the record, I've noted our record should be W 3 D 11 L 4 Pts 20, which would be a far more accurate reflection of where we are as a team right now. As you say, unless we improve by quite a margin, that bubble will burst for sure. We're not playing well enough to maintain this type of form.

I’ve said it in another thread, my view is we’re a pretty safe bet for a play off spot. I don’t subscribe to luck over an 18 game period, 5 games maybe, 18, sorry but no. As boring and as dull as it’s been, it’s been effective in terms of what it’s achieved and what it will achieve going forward - a play off spot.

Where I think this risk lays is not in ourselves, but in our opposition, namely Norwich, Bournemouth and maybe Brentford if they get their act together.

As we’ve done ourselves in plenty of other Championship seasons, as soon as a couple of them string a run of five wins in a row together then the Autos will be out of sight.

Our current approach is nowhere near good enough to do that ourselves, but it is good enough to get a play off spot. Only a matter of time before one or two of our rivals do it though, that’s the risk in our current approach.

when Liverpool won the league (I hate saying that ) a lot of their performance were mediocre at best , but their trick was they kept winning , if we dip in performance it will be over but if we keep on the same way we are going we will be at least in the play offs.

one thing we have in our favour is that we haven’t played our best squad for most of our games and we are winning, if some of our players come back for the 2nd half of the season and other teams have injury problems we will be looking very good for promotion,. I do accept that is a big if.

I'm also feeling optimistic. I'm certainly expecting us to get a shot on target during this match. Maybe even during the first half. Hopefully we use it wisely and won't have to reply on penalties and own-goals to keep the margin below 3.

Luckily for us Bournemouth and Norwich have lost points unexpectedly on several occasions as well and they are probably likely to continue to do that every now and then. I think most Norwich fans would say that they have gained more points than their performances deserve also.

Exactly. I don't know why some people are saying we are grinding out 1-0 results when in the last month we have won 2-0 and 4-1. Its just away from home we need to do better (the weekend result was a step in the right direction). Norwich have had just as much, if not a bit more luck than us by winning games by the odd goal where a draw looked most likely.

This is a terrible comparison. Liverpool did have to grind out the odd result, yes, but they were also irresistible to watch on occasion.

We haven't peaked above mediocre and at times have been absolutely god awful.

Cleverley and Gray being fit is not suddenly going to inspire the shackles to come off and free flowing, attacking football to reign supreme.

The direction of travel is for worse, rather than better IMO.

Maybe we're getting the reffing decisions because in Champ terms we're a massive club - lots of players with Prem and even international experience, recent Cup Finalists, indeed record-equalling Cup Finalists.
