Although part of me is glad that Luton fans won’t be visiting/potentially damaging our ground, you have to think that this is a game where fans could have made a huge difference. Our owners and players might not realise the intensity of the rivalry but the atmosphere in the ground might have helped them do so.
Pretty sure Gray, Foster, Deeney, Cathcart, Cleverley, Capoue, Chalobah, Wilmott will all know how important it is
Yeah that hurt my brain when they said it was a review of tomorrow's game, rather than a preview of next Saturday's.
I’m thinking Troy: tempted away from a solid marriage to the somewhat boring Watford FC by an assignation in West Bromwich with the dashing Dr Bilic. “I have something in my eye.”
Might be a slightly xenophobic opinion but I think it'll be easier for the Luton board, fans and staff to get across how important this game is to the mainly English / British Luton squad. Not sure Gino, Ivic & co really understand it. Of course, they understand derby's but I have a feeling Luton will come out far more intense and aggressive. Luckily I don't know a single Luton fan so nobody can gloat to me.
They have a winning chemistry but they can't win forever so I really hope we can beat them. I for one am glad they are not coming down in thousands due to the cup game and what happened afterwards. I didn't care we lost, I just wanted to get home safely. We have that memorable 4-0 thrashing win at their place back then too. They are a poor squad playing way above their limits so far. We are the opposite in terms of the quality in our team, but considering we put out a cup side every league game is still worrying. We need this window to shut so we know who stays. I'm glad this is a very early season game so with no fans it means less people getting hurt or caught up in incidents. When we go to the Kennel it might be different. I think a draw will be the outcome but winning will be ace. @Clive_ofthe_Kremlin brilliant write up mate. Loved it.
I can't see wholesale changes to that line up that started against Sheff Weds, but this is a game where you really can cement yourself as a legend. Like Jerome Sinclair, people wonder what the hell you're still doing here, but score 1 or more goals next Saturday if you accidentally make it onto the pitch, then you'll be remembered for a very long time.
Wilmot definitely for all the right reasons, no love lost between Stevenage and Luton (doesn't he come from a family of Watford fans too?) Gray...maybe not! It's a weird one, literally nobody at the club would have played in a derby game, even Mr Watford himself Troy Deeney. Still, I would expect the players to have some understanding of what this fixture means, they're not idiots
Must win game. 0-3 (Gray Og , Spring, A Garner) As Luton go in to pip us by a point to the last play off spot.
That's football for you, it comes in waves, we are on a small downturn, they a little bouyant on a run from last season too, I'm pretty sure the players will know what it means from people around the club. Unbeaten against them in 9 league games, dating back to 1881!! I'm sure their stato bloke on the outlaws will tell you something different to get the higher ground, something like, tinpot, empty glass cabinet, soulless. Something along those lines, or he will put up that long list he keeps on his computer, it's funny that it doesn't state seasons in the Premier league!! Odd that. Anyway I'm sure there will be some twoing and throwing (they are pretty good at throwing, especially money at York City players!) Good to be back playing them, always tight affairs, who's their manager again? I have trouble keeping up with the Joneses!
Why is their forum stuck in 1995? Forget the rivalry, name calling, and the fact we all seem to be 'shi**ing it' and all that stuff. The fact their forum would still run smoothly if I was using a 56k dial up modem in 2020 is a tad weird.
Spot on. I can't imagine how exciting this week would be if we could attend. As it is it's hard to motivate myself even to watch. Even if we win 5-0 it wont even matter if no one is there to celebrate like a demented gibbon. None of these quasi-matches count. The crowd is what football is all about. Not the ***wits on the pitch. If there's no crowd, the match is no more meaningful than a game of headers and volleys down cassiobury park.
Completely agree. Talking to a Luton season ticket holder at my son's training yesterday and we both said it was largely academic as no one can go. Was watching Leicester v Burnley last night with the crowd noise on and me and my daughter both agreed that it's crap without fans and that we both long for the roar of the crowd, walking down Vicarage Road, seeing familiar faces etc. Its a real missed opportunity for the fans and players to establish a sadly lacking bond, fire them up and give them a real sense of the club they play for, that will stay with them.
I bet Luton are looking forward to their cup final this coming weekend. I just hope that all our players are vaccinated beforehand. We don't want our lot picking up infectious diseases against those smelly, knuckle-dragging and lice-ridden nincompoops. The only thing we should be picking up is three points.
Play our better players and we will smash them - a day for the bedwetters and clappers to (briefly) unite. Play the line-up from our opening 2 Champo games and we are in the sh*t and the divide between the bedwetters and clappers becomes an even wider chasm. Either way, this forum is gonna have some excellent reading come 5pm Saturday.
