Absolutely dreadful until Sema, Dennis and Rajovic came on. Squad depth always going to be our undoing, incredible that we're still only 4 points off the playoffs, awful league. Only positive is that Dennis looks class as we all knew anyway. Chekatrade is not a central midfielder, lots of running but everytime he got into the final third he'd just misplace a pass.
What a load of rubbish. Absolutely rotten performance. Not sure there's much credit to be handed out to anyone, except perhaps Dennis as par for the course. Said it before, will say it again - our corners are absolutely fuccking diabolical. Inexplicably so. What the fucck is going on with them, I'll never know. When Mooney is saying on comms that he's bored, and that no one is showing the required desire or effort for a team playing at home, the writing is really on the wall.
Meh, who cares. We’re not going up and we’re not going down, some days we’ll be good and some days we’ll be sh1t. All I care about is that **** Pozzo selling up.
That first 60 minutes was atrocious, no tempo or quality at all. The last half hour was much better but was very panicky as we chased for a goal. Giorgi and Martins have no end product at all and are bench warmers at best. Lewis was terrible today and to be fair he hasnt been great all season. He doesnt have a clue what to do with the ball. Dennis was decent and Asprilla was so much better playing centrally. A worldie goal was all that separated 2 crap teams
Well any slim chance of the playoffs that we vaguely had, is now completely gone. Can’t beat that lot at home is embarrassing. Cardiff were absolutely dreadful, yet somehow we were worse. We looked so much better with Rajovic, Sema and Dennis on. Martins needs to take a seat on the bench.
Appalling. Searched high and low for a bar in Buffalo where I could watch this in the morning, wish I hadn’t found one - not one of my wisest moves. We will meander along until the end of the season - a good result here and there, many games of 3 out of 5 nothingness. And then a decent sprinkling of utter toilet like today. The squad just doesn’t have the depth to compete consistently. And I think that’s more a product of not doing enough in the summer…we always knew January is hard to find what you want and operate in. Yet we always wait and pull our plonkers anyway. This owner has screwed the club. Now he’s screwing a manager who seemingly wants to change things in a way all the fans have wanted for a long time.
We weren't particularly good, but that was still a complete smash and grab by Cardiff. They basically sat back deep from minute one and scored with their only real shot of the game that was an absolute screamer. We didn't deserve to win, but a loss was harsh. Albeit, a draw wouldn't have been much use to us either. Lewis had a stinker, including a pathetic attempt at a tackle for their goal and a weird decision not to shoot when in front of the keeper in the second half. Dennis looked a bit livelier when he came on, and got involved, but as per his last games for us in the Championship he was too selfish in his decision making. Asprilla is utterly wasted on the left and I just don't know why Val had he and Martins that way around first half. It was a mistake by him that took him too long to rectify. Asprilla also was just not very good for most of the game and wasted probably our two best chances (which came when he decided to abandon the left flank entirely). Chak was similar to TDB in mid-week (and how he usually is on the wing) in that he kept getting in to good positions but wasting the opportunity. Pollock was relatively promising again lat least, but he still has a few parts of his game he needs to refine eg his passing is very hit and miss (same with our other young defender Andrews when you just never know if he's going to put in a decent ball or an atrocious one). We're now close to having a full strength side back but as I opined after the Wednesday game it's basically too late as we're going nowhere now this season. And even though we're close to having a fully fit squad back the number of games seems to be catching up with some players.
Also, I’m completely baffled as to how Klopp once wanted to spend £15m to take Jamal Lewis to Liverpool.
Neither side played well today and were separated by wonder strike. We played it aimlessly and without purpose for all of the 1st half and up to the subs. Bayo ran but was ineffective so Rajovic sub made sense. Martins was both ineffective and didn't run so any player would be better there. However Koné looked gassed and once again and do not understand why Chakvetadze came off ahead of him who was the only one of the three midfielders who could carry it forward til Dele-Bashiru came on. We could have played for 10 hours and still not scored and Cardiff were the same except for that strike which normally goes high and wide. We can say it was a Cardiff smash and grab but we didn't look much better. Worrying game, that. Dennis and Sema got some more minutes which is good.
He does the same thing as a winger as well. If he's not a winger and not a midfielder, then what is he? Aside from someone we seem to have spent too much money on when they shouldn't be anything other than perhaps a bench option.
Got exactly what we deserved out of that. Nothing. It's becoming clearer game by game how our season will finish. We cannot keep our better players (Sema, Raj, Kayembe) on for 90 minutes every game because we do not have the depth for it. Of course that means we have to stick with Lewis (who was at fault for their goal) and even Asprilla was poor today I thought. Hamer had no chance with the goal but we never looked like scoring. Cardiff could of gone to the beach, come back and still would of been winning. VI made the right call for the subs for once today I will give him praise for that, but it was so, so easy for Cardiff to sit back in numbers and protect what they had. We came so close to going two down just after they scored which would of been game over even sooner. I don't know what has happened to our home form, but we are looking mire and more toothless up front game by game. We are not great at scoring goals on the road but we have managed a lot more than we have at home. Whatever was said at half time went totally out the window because nothing changed second half. We tried a bit harder when Dennis and Sema came on but had we equalised it would of been harsh on Cardiff as they were able to do the bare minimum to keep our powderpuff attack at bay. Very hard to take any positives out of that, perhaps as I said VI getting the subs correct and more minutes for Sema and Dennis, but little else to be cheerful about. Cardiff will not have an easier away fixture all season. It just keeps getting better for us, as free scoring table topping Leicester come here next. Any performance close to this one and midweek, they will score a bucketful. I think we've done enough to survive, and I hope I am wrong in this, but it seems the reast of the season will be much of the same. I know we have told to "trust the process" and "debt free by next Summer" but you look at the squad we have now, and the alarming holes that are being filled with players most sides would have as third choice at best. it's obvious we are long, long way from having anything close to a promotion challenging side.
Even though we're not playing great, I'm curious who these players of ours are who'd be "third choice at best" at most sides in this division? Seems a weird exaggeration. Man for man Cardiff were generally worse than us today for instance.
Passive everywhere No ideas Bayo weirdly no energy Send Lewis back Dennis must start next game Take an hour (at least) to start pressing a team looking for a nil nil draw? Wtf is that about?
I am quite clearly a jinx on Watford. Extremely frustrating experience again. I will not be deterred and I will be back. We lacked composure and brains when seeking an equaliser today. Thought Dennis provided a spark, but was a little selfish on occasion. We are not good enough for a promotion challenge. Having said that Cardiff were ****, but one good finish won the game for them, as well as some *********ry towards the end.
I'll happily take that one back as I probably said that more in frustration than honesty. It's difficult to watch what you type when your ranting,
We could have been be there all night and not scored . Subs improved us but tbh generally too slow and lacked the final ball .
Only thing that is a jinx on this club is the man sat upstairs doing deals with dodgy car salesman. You probably showed more effort and passion for the club today than he has done since relegation from the PL. No matter what happens, we as a fanbase will still be here when he finally buggers off.
Cardiff must think they’re dreaming. They didn’t have to do much to win that, and the goal came from a player who was otherwise running into traffic or passing out of play. Incredible we’ve not been able to even have a meaningful chance with so much possession/territory.
Buffaloed in Buffalo? Entertained in Houston? New York yew nork, You’ve got to choose one… Seems you chose the wrong one today!
What makes things worse is I have inflicted supporting Watford on my sons, but they are adults now, so they have the option of quitting! (They won’t). We will have a few drinks this evening and drown our sorrows.
More so for the team than the fanbase as a whole I expect. They know their limitations and it's clear having such a small squad is going to kick in. Perhaps our rise from 16th to 9th got some fans (myself included) a little excited of the prospect of a promotion charge. But it's in VI's interest to keep the team focused and not over work them. We've seen how slowly we start so many games and I think a lot of that is down to general squad fatigue and lack of rest. It's not an excuse, and being professional athletes they should know their limits, but it's easy to see sides with a bigger squad and depth are finding it much easier as they can chop and change when needed. We had that ability once ourselves, but now it's been quite the reality check, this season and even more so next season.
Plus, the not-even-vaguely-veiled preference to line the Bayat’s pockets is disgusting. Nothing that hasn’t been said before. But paying money for Chakvetadze (lining pockets) when we could do so in 6 months and then letting Camara (a player in a position we need) go to Charleroi (lining pockets) is madness. Fraud (‘allegedly’) in plain daylight. It’s madness how many fans still lick Gino’s hoop.
This result has been a long time coming. I expect we’ll go on a long bad run now. I’m still looking at getting those three more wins. If we finish above 16th I’d be amazed. The players are crap and there’s very little quality in this team. The central striker is a joke, being it Bayo or Rajovic. When’s the last time Bayo scored? Rajovic is getting worse by the game. This season can’t end quick enough. The team is garbage and we have to hope Gino sells up ASAP or else next season will we be relegated if the watering down continues.
I wouldn't say disgusting, it has the taste of Biscoff without the sweetness just bitterness. Needs twice as much sweetness at least.
It's the hope that kills you but after the January transfer window activity (or lack thereof) we should write off our slim chances for the playoffs.
Until Dennis, Rajovic and Sema come on it was another soulless performance similar to midweek in n terms of the tempo we played at. We were the better team but that means nothing if you can’t take your chances. No idea why Asprilla tried to cut onto his right foot six yards out from goal. I wasn’t fully convinced about Pollock I thought he was too slow and lacked any quality in the ball. It looks like we have too many players still playing their way to fitness. Jamal Lewis looked completely spent by the end, Understandably as he’s been injured, Dennis looked much brighter when he come on today and looked a real threat as did Sema, hopefully we get them to full fitness rapidly. Asprilla also started to play once Dennis and Sema come on, maybe because they were more on his wave length. This maybe an unpopular opinion amongst our fans but I have always thought MR is a better option than Bayo, at least Rajovic can score. I reckon we could have had a traffic cone up as a striker today and he would have had more of an impact than Bayo.
Bayo done nothing for three games now. Something has gone wrong as he just seems impotent whereas previously he was good but flaky on front of goal. Now he looks clueless. Raj was aggressive and interested. But yeah you can highlight his limitations to suit your agenda if you like.
