Performances have always got to be right. If they are then the results will follow.

You can always have sequences where you get a run of lucky results, or a run of bad luck. If the performances are right, then eventually the good results will come.

Clearly the performances were poor, regardless of results and the hierarchy believed this too by the looks of it.

Deeney waited for Ivic for a chat and he didn’t turn up ..

Not sure how that leads to a discipline and a sacking.

Its a tricky balancing act, because with our current squad, this new manager could be more attacking, we end up conceding more, and not get the necessary results anyway. Let's hope he adds a bit of stability and optimism and, at least, keeps us where we are from a league position perspective.

Don't forget that Deeney was originally unavailable for the chat Ivic had asked him for, because he was having a massage...

But what's he done to land a job like Watford. 11 games in Georgia!! It's like appointing Mullins. I'm sure he's a nice guy, may even have lots of potential, but it's asking a hell of a lot to expect a novice to come in and get a top two position. No experience of management let alone the Championship.

How did they even notice him in the first place? Another one who 'contacted the club' no doubt.

No name has been confirmed yet. I didn't say just top 2, I said at least where we are at the minute i.e. top 6. The owners set out wanting promotion in some shape or form so if the new man ain't getting the right results he won't last the season either.

Lol I wish! She's way prettier than me, plus she can handle talking to Deeney without feeling the urge to knock his ego on his arse.

Deeney is the real head coach - this is just another stab proof vest to deflect the blade away from TD- I guess he has a rolling weekly contract and if not in top 2 by end Feb will be gone

On ******* Twitter, not on the website, not in a newsletter/E Mail to the fans, not even an interview on Sky Sports.

    Absolute tin-pot club.

Duxberry probably knows the walls are closing in and that he'll be the next to get the chop.

You never know, with a new manager in, we may see Deeney run at pace and get on the end of crosses. ;)

    I really don’t think that’s why he’s been sacked.

But it hasn’t helped of course. The statement is just totally uncalled for - especially when you look at the fact the club ‘officially’ stayed mute on so many issues they should have spoken out about in the past 12 months.

When we played at home to Cardiff the announcer when the team came back out said to the fans there "Welcome back Troy Deeney and the Golden Boys" , this was a wtf moment for me, is this a new thing as I havnt heard it before.

Ivic is clearly not the right man for this job, and his sacking is the right decision.

But **** me, after hearing all this talk of today, I actually feel even worse about the whole thing than I did before.

Literally, the last tiny shred of respect I had for the hierarchy and what they've achieved has vanished. They need to get the **** out.

Especially after That Statement. What the shitting ****?

Whatever Deeney has done for the club previously (and however well he played against Preston), he is clearly an absolutely toxic person to have around, and the power he wields as a half-fit, slow, over the hill, gobby, PR relations nightmare, pen merchant is mind boggling. Sickening.

Even if this incident isn't particularly his fault (and Ivic is a terrible man manager), the fact that ******* chairman is coming out to defend him via the medium of ******* Twitter is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen come out of our club. ******ous.

If that stupid **** Duxbury has any sense of morals, he should make as damn sure as he can that we SOMEHOW jettison Deeney (ideally Capoue if he wants to score own goals for a laugh), and we come to some sort of release of the odious Gray. Then he should **** off, and take his asleep-at-the-wheel, smarmy, car salesman shtick bullsh*t somewhere else.

Horrific and infuriating. A farrago of sh*t.

And please don't let us appoint a man who has managed 11 games and who technically wouldn't qualify to be our manager if we get promoted. Christmas is ****ed enough as it is....

Just catching up on the Athletic article...

The hierarchy 'expressed concerns' about the playstyle and character of a guy they interview and hired 4 months ago?!

Deeney's refused to meet with the manager and chose to have a massage instead and this is somehow just a misunderstanding and not a blatant statement by Mr Ego personified?

What a load of ****, does Leventhal have no shame at constantly acting as such a subservient mouthpiece for the club's latest narrative?

I’m so conflicted. After watching Watford for (almost) half a season I wanted Ivic gone, but reading the circumstances around the sacking is even more alarming.

If the Pozzos can’t see that certain players need to be put in their place - and in a few cases sold - then I will start to question whether they are still the right fit for the club. Something I couldn’t have imagined a year ago.

I might have bought that the first couple of times, but this is the 3rd or 4th manager Deeney has been instrumental is ousting now

I know people who have worked at the club over the last 5-10 years and whilst they all speak well of Troy, they all, without exception, also say that Deeney acts like he runs the place. This is not a new thing either, I was told by a former member of the first team staff that it was Deeney who effectively struck the killing blow to Zola's reign, loudly announcing that a training drill was "****" and walking off the field during a session which Gino was observing in person

You could clearly see Deeney bitching and moaning to the players sat in front of him yesterday every time the camera panned to him.

You can’t trust a word of what the club says, and if they're going to sack the manager they clearly have to downplay whatever happened as much as is possible.

Is it? I’m not defending Deeney or saying you’re wrong. But that’s only fan theories that he’s personally seen off that amount of managers. All those managers and the rest of the players have played equal parts as far as I’m concerned. As far as yesterday goes, if what’s reported is true, I don’t know what Deeney did wrong. Someone asks to speak to you and you’re halfway through some treatment so you ask that person to wait a minute...hardly the worlds biggest crime. Again, if true, Ivic has been far too complex about the situation.

Deeney is a problem that should have been dealt with incrementally over the past 2 years. The club should have been identifying ‘leadership’ as a trait when recruiting and creating a succession plan. That plan should have then been enacted after the cup final.

But Gino and Duxbury have enabled him, no question about it. New contracts, huge wages, captaincy and certain starting spots. Add to that his new media commitments and the guy is a problem that needs solving. I just find it very hard to blame him for it all when it’s those above him who have allowed it. And the statement today shows they have no desire to change.

But make no mistake - whilst the managerial hotseat is a ‘12 months or less’ job position, no one will have the power or remit to remove Deeney.

Don’t like Deeney? Don’t blame him. Blame those above him.

If all that has been reported about Deeney is true Gino and or F***sbury should have taken him to task.

You can apply the exact same logic to Giraldi though, plenty of people hated him and blamed him for many of the clubs ills, but he wasn’t his own entity, he was an employee of Gino, doing what Gino asked him to do.

I think we're in agreement Burnsy, the buck stops with Gino, Scott and those in the hierarchy who have enabled and fuelled this kind of player power

Re. Deeney however, this is not 'fan theories' i'm referring to, this is stuff I have been told by someone who was part of the first team set up for a number of years, under a number of managers and who has no reason to lie
