... for the Championship. Hopefully that's an indication of where he expects to be next season, whether Watford are still there or not.
Some good choices in there. My friend George and old schoolmate John Mousinho, as well as Marvin Sordell.
I think we can put paid to any idea of Troy's presence in the stands wrecking our season! He must be happy, increases the chance of a cameo role on the final day against Swansea in what might be his final game for the club...
Games Deeney started this season: 1.8 points per game Games without Deeney starting: 2.1 points per game
What point are you trying to make ? Why not list all of the squad with their points per game, not just isolate one player .
Games Foster started this season: 1.6 points per game Games without Foster this season: 2.29 points per game We would never be in 2nd if Foster had not got injured, he was dragging the whole team down with his performances and social media activities.
I wouldn't surprise me if we never see Deeney in a Watford shirt again. Tbh I think I said that last summer too and we've seen what happened.
Assuming promotion is assured, it's possible he will come on as a sub v Swansea for a swansong. If he has one year left then I have maintained that on promotion he would be paid up and made a free agent.
Deeney issue is not his comments on social media but his injuries that have caught up with him. I am still not convinced that we will pay him £3m to get him out of his contract. More likely he stays and is a bit part player. We do however need to get rid of Gray, which could be more challenging as can’t see where he would go/who would want
Yep. Been on a downward trend for a while now. Terrible distribution and began making basic errors to concede goals. The YouTube stuff was the icing on top.
https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1386597176722198530 Hope Troy goes in a dignified manner, maybe after one Prem game so he gets a rousing sending off. We can't afford to have a Watford FC employee giving players like Mo Salah & Firmino extra motivation to batter us next season, it just cannot happen. Blows my mind he was allowed on as it is.
I've said it before and I'll say it again Troy has been a great servant to this club and he deserves many plaudits for that. However time eventually takes it toll with everybody and I'm sorry Troy but it's a case of "Come in No9 your time is up" Maybe you might still be able to see out the last year of your contract as a backup impact sub from the bench, but not as a regular 1st eleven starter, and I hope you see it that way too and go gracefully at the end of your contract. I for one would like to thank you for the memories and wish you all the best for whatever your future might hold for you.
Even after all that's happened, this still absolutely blows my mind - this is moon man, insanity level gobbledegook. Salah's league goalscoring record since returning to England with Liverpool is 32, 22, 19 and 20 (so far). He has won the Golden Boot twice in those four seasons. He may well do so again this year, given that he is currently only one behind Kane. And Troy Deeney, who has scored something like 5 goals from open play in his last 3 seasons in the Premier League, is giving him pelters for 'not being a natural finisher'. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?! Similarly, no, you're not going to see Firmino getting you either 25 or 28 goals a season - but no one ever expected that you would; least of all Liverpool when they bought him. It's also not the role he is asked to play by his manager, Jurgen Klopp, which has resulted in them appearing in two consecutive Champions League finals, winning one, whilst also picking up a Premier League title - achievements that he contributed heavily to. The fact that this is the way Troy sees the game, and that he is prepared to vocalise this kind of lunacy out loud, perhaps gives us a dreadful and telling insight into both how he understands football and how he sees himself. Neither are good, helpful, or in-line with reality. The sheer audacity of this is just breathtaking. The absolute frontosaurus of the man.
Tbf there are lots of average players turned pundits giving their views on players much better than them.. Troy is hardly alone. But agree he certainly shouldn’t include Salah in this. And as you say the other 2 aren’t there to be natural goal scorers. I think he meant out and out centre forwards tbh - as in Mane and Salah are wide players in an attacking 3.
Oh god, can see it now... "Salah, Firmino and Mane take turns to point at my GoPro after scoring. Still, it's world class banter and only football, doesn't matter that we're bottom of the league. Anyway, look at my £5000 trainers, I'm off for a bike ride after a world class coffee from a machine in a hotel foyer".
what? why shouldnt he call out loathsome players like them? We beat them 3-0 last time we played them didnt we? Just because we are little old Watford doesnt mean we need to bend over and part our cheeks for hateful teams like liverpool. *** them all, especially that **** van dijk. I hope his leg has to be amputated. I am pleased we've got at least one player with some spunk. It's more than I can say about our meek fans.
I actually found it a little sad, I’m not so sure he’s that misguided, rather my take is it’s just a desperate attempt to say something click bait worthy to remain popular/relevant. There is one thing having a divisive opinion to stimulate debate, but it’s another thing to have an opinion that is just so utterly bonkers you wouldn’t find anyone that would agree with it. Either way, I’m not sure what would be worse really.
I actually listen to to TS a fair bit now working from home, I love how they basically just make their own headlines. After the show Troy is on, every news report thereafter has a news story that says ‘Troy Deeney has told Talk Sport....’ but he’s your own employee, so you’re just making your own news up?
The BBC do that too. There was a point not so long ago where most Mondays the headline article on their Sport pages would be about something Chris Sutton or Ian Wright had said on one of their shows over the weekend.
I actually don't think Mo Salah is a natural finisher. He's a great player and obviously scored a lot of goals but natural finishers are number 9's like Lineker or Greaves who just have an art of being in the right place at the right time. Salah is an attacker but not a centre forward like those 2. it is Troy's opinion which he is entitled too, why do people get upset about it
He wasn't wrong, they're not natural finishers. However, I just don't think an active Premier League footballer should be on the radio regularly talking about other Premier League footballers.
I guess it’s a bit like Andros Townsend on 5live (who basically rubbished Tuchel at Chelsea by saying Lampard could have done the same job) 2 players coming to the end of their careers looking for their next job in the media. Least Troy can let TS know about our other players apart from him and Sarr.
the fact that people on this forum are discussing the subject is an indication that any news is good news and helps promote Talk Sport , this is not dissimilar to other Deeney Watford related comments or actions which help promote the hornets. so keep on whingeing !!
His comments normally promote us in a negative light though, which is fine if that’s what you want. Anything to stick up for Troy though aye, even if it’s at Watford expense. Who is more important to you?
