    This.

You very rarely hear players say when they’re playing through pain. For good reason - it puts a target on their back.

By telling the media about his broken foot, he’s basically given Arsenal - a club he’s publically wound up by insulting their lack of aggression - a weak spot to target.

He continuously causes himself problems by being ‘refreshingly honest’, which is why most players play it safe.

Palarse fans currently moaning and groaning about the conspiracy of the whole football world (but particularly Troy and Watford) to take every opportunity to nobble Zaha. Total paranoia and mass hysteria reigns in South London. It is really quite funny how deluded and unbalanced some can get over a simple game of football.

It's been reported here. Not sure how true it is, as it seems strange Deeney would say this, but knowing him, he probably did.

If this is true, then I think the club should probably be punished. We all know it goes on, but if someone openly admits it, then I think this should be properly looked into. You cannot condone this type of thing.

To top off Deeney's little media rampage recently, he'll probably go and get a red card tomorrow.

You could be right...Troy does go on these rampages and they say pride comes before a fall. Not condoning targeting players etc but is Zaha really a special case? Deeney's comments are hardly in the Roy Keane bracket of malicious intent. He is not even the most fouled player currently. Richarlison was last season and Hughes is higher up the list presently but we don't hear him moaning. Seem to remember Zaha put in a pretty high challenge himself on a Huddersfield player but did not get a red. As for diving Zaha has largely improved in that regard, would also accept he does get fouled a lot due to his speed but even he can't expect to be given a free-kick every time he hits the deck when the wind changes direction. The risk of injury is always there for players but that is part of why they get paid huge amounts of money.

And a ban from the FA for such comments I should think...

Also probably now see refs go against us even more than they do now...

I don't really understand the idea of the club being punished and/or the FA banning Deeney. Football's a contact sport. Tactical fouls are a full part of the game and it's up to referees to deal with them correctly. At the least it's a free kick, if it's over the line or multiple times it's a card. Either way the team doing it don't immediately benefit as they have a free kick to defend. In this case, it's up to Palace to make something of that opportunity.

It's not cheating or sorcery and Deeney hasn't said the intent is to injury anyone.

Admitting to trying to influence referees and organising a fouling extravaganza against one particular player really isn't clever, even by his standards.

The club ought to ban him from media work for his own sake.

We might not get any action taken against us, but it's just another stupid thing we don't need hanging over the club.

Why does he insist on doing it? I know footballers aren't famed for their intellect, but FML...

Jesus Christ, he might be an honest player, but he really is thick as shíté

He doesn’t think before he speaks.

The problem I have isn’t what he said, it’s what the impact will be.

No ref will now allow Troy to influence them anymore. Zaha will win free kicks and yellow cards against us galore. We’ll be seen as bullies by refs.

It’s not the end of the world, but he’s put that element of doubt in the refs minds, which was totally unnecessary.

Totally ignorant. Being open about his strategy to get into referees heads is going to make them more inclined to go against us. And he’s basically vindicated Zaha which has the potential to go against us when we next play them and there are referee decisions to be made. The premiership has fine margins and maybe I am being melodramatic but I fear comments like these can potentially cost us future points.

Doesn’t reflect well on the club brand either at a time when we have a lot of positive stuff we can market about the club.

Everything he says is true but it is totally counterproductive to say it when still playing. I don’t find his honesty refreshing anymore. Just when things were going well and there was some distance from last season he comes up with this.

I doubt what he said is even true. He just goes off half-cocked and starts saying things and then it snowballs from there. It's all part of his "I'm the big man" act. His biggest selling point in the media is that he's "honest" - I don't actually think he is, I think he's a classic bullshitter.

Its all a big wind up on palace fans, whom I presume are spitting out their ham egg and chips when they read it.

Either that, or he's stirring the nest before the Bournemouth Palace match on Monday. Never a match asked for a bet on a penalty being awarded more.

The problem is when he gets a microphone in front of him he starts thinking he’s Troy Deeney.

If you listen to what he actually said it's not as bad as the papers have made out.

That's (some) fans of all clubs though isnt it?

Some of our fans think that the officials are somehow colluding against us, that the media have equally got it in for us.. "The BBC hate us" i often read.. and that the Premier League want shot of us.
    It gets weary.
