You are correct, it was meant to say £50k to sign him otherwise it would be a worse signing than it already is
Nobody wants him so we are stuck paying £28k per week to a player we don’t want for another 18 months. As some of the simpletons in our fanbase lectured us in the summer it was a no brainer to bring him in!
I predict we terminate his contract in the summer and he departs via ‘mutual agreement’, skipping away with a shedload of cash due to the idiocy of those in power at the club.
Generally always played well against us and did well in a sh1t Reading side last season, although not enthralled many (including me) thought for £50k we couldn't go that far wrong when signing him. Nobody waived £28k pw for an ageing player heading into L1 under my nose when making that judgement though TBF. Hasn't had much game time but not really done much when he has, one follows the other I guess. Not going to slag this off completely because (wages aside) he isn't a horrific player to have in the squad where we are now, however, £28k pw on a 3yr deal again sees us with a high paid 34yr old on the books who could be properly sh1t by that stage and impossible to move on. Seems we are not learning in some areas.
Last season for Reading he scored a relatively decent looking 9 goal goals and got 4 assists in 36 starts - that was a goal every 363 minutes. All his assists were from corners mind. Based on that alone I thought we would probably be an alright option off the bench given he was basically free. This season he has actually scored a goal every 340 minutes for us and has got 2 assists from open play. So his output is actually even better than he was managing at Reading. Yet he's crap and has been a real disappointment despite the low fee, It's odd to say that about a player whose output isn't actually that bad. It seems as if his legs and pace have basically gone and all he is capable of doing is shooting and playing short passes. It's almost like sticking Rajovic on the wing.
Where's this 28k salary thing come from? Not another of those awful fairytale websites that list football player salaries?
I saw it mentioned numerous times here and on twitter. Not sure of their source. Does it seem that unreasonable for a player coming off a reduced relegation release clause?
Honest answer is I've lost track of what the going rate for Championship cannon fodder is these days. It feels high to me - would have thought Ince would have wanted a juicy up front bung rather than a higher wage. Though it could be both I guess. Can see him being a higher earner for sure. I just wonder about the source for these things. Just because some website slaps a 'verified' logo next to handful of their numbers doesn't mean it's not just some spotty oik sat behind the curtain daydreaming.
