Were the 'values' of Watford FC reflected by the club captain calling an interviewer a 'cheeky ba5tard' on live TV yesterday?

Imagine being a club's star player. Leaving the club, which then qualifies for the champs league, starring in a 2 goals MoM performance against the runaway title winners, and then playing at High Wycombe on a wet Tuesday evening the following November :).

While I tend to agree that he will leave if someone in a European competition comes along, how many clubs will be willing to part with £40m this summer? For all Gino's current failings, he won't agree to anything other than making a profit on the player I suspect.

Grealish stayed at Villa for example. While I think he may depart, I doubt he's someone we can't afford to keep - and we will likely try and convince him to stay for a season I suspect. I don't think it's certain he leaves.

Ok so I’m glad they’ve said something . They’ve acknowledged we are all upset and disappointed and that they’ve made some mistakes. They were hardly going to go into minute detail about everything that happened .

They’ve reaffirmed their commitment to the club and that there determination to get us back to the premier league. That’s enough for me and what I wanted to hear .

How much do you think he'll go for then? It all depends on whether Pozzo plays hard-ball or not. If someone offers 50m+ then, yeah, I can't see him staying. All depends on whether anyone will pay that kind of money.

If the club's reaction to the previous 'great disappointment' - the global humiliation of last year's cup final - is anything to go by we're f***ed

Some people seem annoyed that people are satisfied with the statement, while some are probably annoyed others aren't. Lots of passive aggression being channeled on this forum recently.

Won't take a week. Get rid of most and try to keep Hughes. Big Sam as coach.

Exactly, they won’t sell him below a certain value they’ll have in mind for him. He probably won’t play in the championship, just get loaned out and hope we come back up, but short of a £50m+ offer they just won’t sell him.

I am annoyed that people are both annoyed and not annoyed. I am also annoyed at people who are annoyed or not annoyed with people who are not annoyed or annoyed.

Finally. They are alive. Words are one thing. They need backing up with strong actions.

As for this, even I was getting a little bit miffed with the reporter constantly pushing for more on what was a very ‘off the cuff’ comment implying even Troy is up for the chop if that’s the direction the club wants to go. At no point did he infer that he was retiring, and by the 4th or 5th subsequent question pushing for more he was basically asked if his playing days were done. I’d have said exactly the same if it was a regular conversation, and given the circumstances of what had just happened, probs not the most pleasant line of questioning to have to deal with.

Completely agree with this. It's just words, and hardly inspirational ones at that. A PR exercise with little substance.

What really matters is identifying what went wrong (i.e. a terrible strategy of spending big on players we don't need and spending nothing on players we do), which allowed our team to deteriorate into a Championship side.

We also deserve to hear what happened to a manager who was sacked before two of the most important matches in our clubs recent memory.

Pleased with the statement. I know fans will pull it apart, and of course the important thing is what they do. They have done very well with the club to date, and have a good track record. They have a big challenge, as the new season will be here in weeks. Whilst they can be accused of under investment in the last few years on the playing side, they do not have the vast sums of money that billionaire owners in the PL possess. The biggest mistake they have made is the constant change in management. They always said that they would manage us on a firm financial footing. I would rather they only spent more that was affordable, rather than taking reckless gambles, albeit that is probably led to our relegation

Would Grealish have stayed for three years in the Championship had he not been a local lad? Besides, Villa are a much bigger club than us

I appreciate the statement from the club, but actions speak louder than words.

If Gino is serious about change, then he can start by getting rid of Giraldi.

To me this is empty marketing speak. It's completely meaningless. 'Core values' is always a red flag for me. Even the Nazis had 'core values'.

I don't trust Gino or Scott with our club right now. Although like hornetboy, I could easily be won back. They have taken big liberties with our club, our culture and our values. They believe they can keep us onside with these empty PR releases.

    1. Giraldi and Deeney must go for the disasterous impact they have had on and off the pitch. We need new leaders. Giraldi and Deeney have both failed in the role they claim to be ideally suited for. Get them out or the club will continue to nosedive and fall apart.

    2. We must focus on being a community club, an underdog and a likeable club rather than creating an artificial brand none of the fans recognise or relate to, which undermines the club and serves no real purpose.

    3. We need to psychologically profile our squad to find out who is willing to fight in the Champo. Dawson wasn't up for it with West Brom. Doucs will probably pussy out too. Too many snowflake millenial pussies in our squad.

    4. If the outcome of this statement is anything like the outcome of that ridiculous and farcical statement after the Cup Final we'll be bankrupt and/or relegated again next season.

    5. We have some players who could thrive in the Champo with the right attitude and management and without Giraldi's poison and Troy's narcissism. But do Scott and Gino have the sincerity or the integrity to take the club forward? Right now the jury is out.

My main concern when I was opening the statement was that Pozzos would be confirming their exit from the club. We've been utter garbage for over a year but we are still punching well above our weight. The club has been in better shape these last 10 years than at any stage in its history bar the GT/EJ years. As bad as this year has been, I still think we're better off with them at the helm than many of the alternatives. So, yes it was bland and yes they need to take some serious action to improve the playing/coaching side of things but if all the statement said was "we're not going anywhere" that's enough for me right now.

I’m pleased they’ve released a Statement and acknowledged mistakes. They also sound committed to trying to get us back up. However, whilst I’m pleasantly surprised they have admitted mistakes the rest is fairly standard talk.

Actions rather than words in the next month or so will give a better indication of how much they back up those words. It is a start though.

I agree. I think it's been put out purely to satisfy people demanding to hear from the owners. In truth there isn't much they can say at the moment.

I'm far more interested to see what they do over the next 6 weeks rather than what they say now.

I’m quite heartened by the statement - there is intent to get us back to the PL. They’ve done it before, know what’s required and surely can see the glaring issues in the squad as well as we can.
