It's perfectly possible that this is where our terrible lack of vision and refusal to play young players will come back to bite us. Quina left West Ham for us on a cut price deal because he wanted to play first team football and we told him we could offer some. As it is, that's been shown to be a bit of a joke.

Now, we might be lucky in the fact that, having barely played, many of them haven't really exhibited themselves enough for other clubs to know to want to come and pick them up, but equally if any do, what real reason do they have to stay? Especially when they can't even hold any of the blame for the rancid performances that led us to relegation.

Watching Pedro for those eventual 10 minutes yesterday was simultaneously thrilling and maddening; maddening because of how we have held him back, for seemingly no reason, when he's clearly capable of at least holding his own in our team (minimal an achievement as that is at this point).

Going off-topic, but without meaning to cause offence, what is so great about High Wycombe? Admittedly I've only been there once in early 2011 to get a laptop at the John Lewis, but it struck me as little more than a stop off the M40 and no better than Watford. I've seen far more attractive looking towns in Buckinghamshire and neighbouring Oxfordshire.

Still I'm glad their team went up, it'll be a team new to the second tier and it's good to see the home counties clubs doing well.

You have to really blame Pearson for not wanting to play Pedro, just like Javi and QSF were reluctant to play Sarr. If we are to believe what went on then one of the reasons Pearson went was that he wouldn’t play him. That’s where one of the big disconnects is with the club, appointing managers who are quite stubborn and won’t start a player based on raw talent , but would rather go with the tried and tested option.

Think it's really the fact that it's pretty much totally surrounded by countryside and very rich small towns and 'areas'. Watford has some expensive parts, but not to the same degree or frequency by any stretch of the imagination, and it's more urban as much by its location inside the M25 and basically connected to London as anything else. High Wycombe is 'leafier'.

Not sure that is fair. Pedro may become a top striker, but for now he's a kid. He's shown flashes of capability here and there, but not necessarily any evidence that he was ready to be thrown into the thick of a relegation dogfight and be effective.

The Pozzos didn't assemble the right players for the job of staying up.

Dawson, Sarr, Pedro, Welbeck, Pussetto - none if them really what we needed. 60m between them. Can't convince me we spent well.

Yeah, I just mean if people are unhappy that Pedro didn’t play then really it’s not necessarily the owners fault they don’t then play. Whether they’re the right player or not is another question, but in the case of Pedro he was straight into the squad and often on the bench, so the owners must have deemed him ready for first team premier league football. Personally I think there were plenty of games that he couldn’t come off the bench earlier where we had nothing to lose by doing so. I don’t really see what good a five or minute spell at the end of the game does anyone.

Worth looking at the 'statement' from Bournemouth's chairman. A few sentences on a screenshot from a mobile. Nowhere near as detailed as this, from a club that was equally dreadful and has made equally significant mistakes in recruitment (spending lots of money on all the wrong players, arguably worse than us not spending enough).

And I do agree that the first sentence is poorly written, even if the sentiment is right. Like I said, our communications department is somewhere between clueless and inept. It's an area where Watford is decidedly not Premier League.

Of course they do. What possible benefit could there be for managers taking a risk but helping develop young players, if they're only at the club for a few months? Any manager would prioritize trying to scrape enough points to stay up and getting their hefty bonus.

Of course, but how many games since restart did we have nothing to lose by bringing a player like Pedro on for the second half, but we didn’t? You’re exactly right in what you say, but if the owners have bought young players with a lot of potential, surely they couldn’t be annoyed with the manager actually playing them now and again?

At least their chairman has a twitter account. Wish our backroom staff were easily accessible. Giraldi use to be on twitter, he still might be. If he is, can someone with a twitter account message him on behalf of all Watford FC fans.

Remember that NP probably hasn't seen players train etc as much as we think- with lockdown and everything. The games came thick and fast, so most training sessions probably focused on team-shape, set-peices etc. He also, probably, arrived with the preconceived notion that our big reputation players actually deserve their reputations.

I think Gino has made a rod for his own back in this respect.

The core of this argument is extremely interesting.

On the one hand, here we are saying that Gino, despite having access to knowledge of all of the club's internal operations, training/performance data, scout reports and unfettered access to any club related info that he wants, doesn't know better than his staff and should let them get on with it.

At the same time, most of us on here are essentially arguing that we know better than the owners/head coach on transfers, medical teams, tactics, formations, player selections and a ream of other topics despite the fact that the sum total of our exposure to the club is essentially a once-weekly game of about 90 minutes, and press releases that only let the info out of the club that they want to let out.

    Absolutely right.

We moan about Pedro not getting time, or Quina not even making the bench, without any idea what's happened all week in training. For the handful of great moments we've seen, a player could be rubbish in training, have a bad attitude, not be physically or mentally prepared, or something else. At a certain point, we have to have faith in people whose jobs are to watch football players and then tell them what to do, every single day, as opposed to those of us who watch on a Saturday and then look at YouTube highlights.

That said, I think the point above about our short-term, undermining approach to head coaches is in direct conflict with our desire to develop young players. A manager who knows he needs to win right now is generally going to pick trusted, lower risk options.

I grew up in a 'leafy' village near High Wycombe and it was my old stomping ground as a teenager.

Sorry Moose but I'm with London here, there is nothing great about High Wycombe, yes some nice posh bits but think they are outweighed by the grim bits, these are plentiful and very grim. Great M40 access just makes it expensive and grim.

I'm old so WW were non league when I was a lad, Hornets were my nearest league team, otherwise things could have been different. I may have been happy and excited about the season to come!

Core values following a head coach around taking notes not trusting them to carry out a job they’ve been doing for years. Trying to promote the club internationally with new stadium plans and ******** badges. Buying players on the promise of being in the shop window, to many individuals that think they’re to good for us.

From what I’ve seen online there are some clubs that are starting back up on August 10th. So just figured that’s when most would be goin back. That’s when I expected our players to be going back.
