Bingo. It's appalling that this is only high profile due to the attractiveness of the victim.

 

Funnily enough, in relation to the annoying turn of phrase posts a few pages back, I just spotted this on some food I’d bought:

 

A lot veggie stuff has annoyingly banterous or twee instructions and packaging.

You’re not kidding me, I don’t want to eat meat but I’m not a hippy dippy flower child and I definitely don’t think your pea protein based spherical lump with seasoning grew on a tree.

 

I always wondered how the press decide what person disappearing gets the most coverage. There must be loads of people reported missing every week, some of which have unhappy endings but a lot get very little coverage.

 

I agree but in this case I believe that it was a few days after before there was any coverage.

 

My son lives in the next road to the house that the poor woman had been visiting before she was taken in Clapham. He saw the police walking across Clapham common in a line looking for clues and thought they were picking up litter

 

Don't they always leave it a few days in case the person turns up?

I presume they are guided by the police on that.

 

The Sarah Everard case is horrendous. That poor woman and her family. Did everything she could to ensure her safety (rang her boyfriend, stuck to main roads, wore bright clothing etc) but still wasn't enough. What makes this even worse is the alleged perpetrator- someone whose job it is to PROTECT PEOPLE. What on earth has happened I guess we won't find out for a while, hopefully the remains they found in Kent aren't her but they obviously had some form of evidence that Kent was a location of significance so it doesn't look good, which is so sad

What baffles me is the distance between where she went missing and where these remains have been found- an hour and a half journey!!! If she has been murdered, I sincerely hope justice is done

 

It’s is extremely unusual. There is clearly evidence that links them, but what lead them to someone in law enforcement so (relatively) quickly? What suddenly made them do such a thing, or was it the first time? Opportunism or pre-meditated? So many questions.

The school run. It's back with a vengeance and the local roads are gridlocked once again between 8 and 9am every week day.

Why don't the idiots dropping off drop them 1/2 a mile from school? Why outside the front bl**dy gate?
How about get them a bike?
How about get them to walk?
What is it about school run vehicles that can't seem to navigate or park in any way resembling common sense?

I was never once, not ever, given a lift to school which was 3 miles away. I've never given any of my kids a lift as the school is under a mile away, but people living closer do so.

Absolute f***ing madness. What lessons are these idiots giving their spoiled kids?

 

I agree, I live about 1 mile walk from my son's primary school and we walk (he cycles) and like you I know people who live closer and still drive, less than a mile. The school are constantly sending out emails with reminders about drivers' behaviour, mainly those parking across driveways and arguing with neighbours, the school has also put bollards stating "do not stop here" outside the gate yet there are those you just ignore them, the council painted more yellow lines during lockdown so it's even worse. One day someone will get injured or killed as sometimes cars mount kerbs to get around other drivers as a lot of these special parents drive unnecessarily large vehicles and still need 2m clearance or they panic.

 

God forbid their precious darling burn a few calories too.

 

If there were more reasonably-priced boarding schools throughout the country the problem of school run traffic congestion would soon be resolved. And England might get a decent cricket team

Do children not care about their own futures. They should be refusing the lift to save the planet. I thought all children loved Greta.

You'd think the greater emphasis on catchment area in recent years would result in more kids taking themselves to school, as the beauty of that is that children can make friends with those in the same neighbourhood or at worst just a mile away and walk/cycle freely between their houses, school and their friends' places, and thus save their parents the trouble of driving several miles to pick up their kids wherever they go, which wasn't the case when I was growing up. But no, some are addicted to their flash 4x4s/carriers it seems...

 

My partner is currently spending her Saturday morning working out how she’ll spend a grant she’s been given to promote healthy travel to her school. They’re really on it to be fair, it helps that the school doesn’t have anywhere for parents to abandon cars.

Seems weird to me that they have to constantly remind parents about keeping kids active though. Especially as from the age of 8 they spend much less time moving around in the classroom during the day.

 

It was some years ago, but the local rag had an article on how Yavneh had secured a £30K 'grant' to build bike shelters. I sent to the head of my son's primary school a copy of the article saying what a good idea this was and that I was certain that parents could/would top it up if it wasn't enough and... nada - in fact when I approached her at an event I was given the cold shoulder.

She retires and her replacement gets some 'good enough' hitching posts installed which are eagerly used by the pupils for their bikes, scooter and parents' bike trailers within a week of taking office. She also spoke to the cops/council and got 'random' PCSO's and Traffic Warden's (or whatever they're called now) patrolling and ticketing outside the school (in conjunction with the heads of other schools in her area). There are three primary schools in the area and the heads tried to get 'bike friendly' routes to their schools planned but the local council wasn't interested.

Our sons school did a walk to school week. But he was getting dropped off at breakfast club on the way as my wife drove to work so it wasnt an additional journey and theres no traffic 30 minutes before school opens.

He was distraught about not being able to walk.

When I'm elderly and in an electric scooter I'm driving there at 8.45am and scratching all the cars that park entirely on the pavement, blocking 90% of what is quite a big space to take up because you're a lazy entitled ********.

One of his friends lives closer and gets driven about 150m to park up and walk the rest. I'm sure it genuinely would be quicker to walk. Mind you same parent drove to the fireworks display a 10 minute walk away, parking 5 minutes away aware it would be a 30 minute scrum to leave the car park.

Talking of which. When leaving car parks after an event the mad rush ******* pushing in every which way that just end up resulting in everywhere being blocked and numerous ****s on horns.

People who honk half a millisecond after the lights go green. Do they teach you how to drive like a ***** in London?

 

I love it when this happens, but it's not a natural thing stalling the car on demand.

 

I spoke to my daughter last night who's as Uni at the moment and the subject got on to womens safety. I asked her if she had any recent examples of being intimidated by men. Reluctantly she told me that every single day that she goes to the University library she gets uncomfortable comments from a nearby building site. Every single time. She now takes a big detour to avoid it.
I know why she reluctantly told me because I'm seriously thinking about driving up there tomorrow and confronting them.

My eldest daughter says the problem is at levels so bad now that she expects an issue every time she goes out.

 

Yes I also notice that when this happens my car 'magically' is unable to exceed 22 mph and has a 0-22 mph acceleration that's best measured with a calender. Funny that.

 

My wife was whistled at by some workmen recently. She was thrilled
