    Quick start by Liverpool!

About 5 seconds slower than Long's goal .

    Been all Huddersfield since ..

Anyone else liking the look of Grant for Huddersfield? Been playing well these past few games. We are supposedly after Josh King in the summer, Grant would be cheaper and much better value for money. 4 goals and 1 assist in 10 games in the Prem for a 21 yr old is pretty decent. Can’t imagine him costing more than £15mil, especially with them being relegated. If we don’t sign him, I would hazard a guess that he ends up at Bournemouth.

They only brought him in January and already their top scorer!

Not exactly an achievement considering that Deulofeu is the joint top scorer at the John Smith's.

Leicester the latest of our mid table rivals to cash in on a home game against Arsenal.

Doesn’t the summer transfer normally start around February, when our terminal end of season decline becomes apparent?

That was really where we lost it, wasn’t it? Not the two obvious mistakes by Foster and Deeney, but the easy three points on offer at home to Arsenal.

    Arsenal. Wow. Just wow.

Several hungry teams below them and Chelsea now ready to pounce next season. It’s all a question of mentality now, there is very little to separate us, yourselves and the teams in 3rd to 6th places in terms of coaching and talent.

Liked for no mention of Everton or Wolves. Disliked for being a bit flattering to our two (much nicer) clubs

That’s what I find so irritating as well. Arsenal are a pathetic excuse for a team at the moment, capitulating to everyone away from home yet somehow managed to fluke win against us !!!

Btw, I haven’t yet quite acclimatised to the HB rebranding.

What will take for you to return to the Unhappy persona?

De Gea. An absolute clanger a match these days! Defo worth the 350k per week contact he is looking for. Much more of this and he’ll be on the Joe Hart scrapheap.

Nice to see consistency with refereeing. Deeney gets red card, Mata not even a booking with no one suggesting it was a red, although Souness did say you do run a risk when you raise your arm.

Matic. Big guy vs little guy, as in our case.

Stop blaming the ref, it was a mistake by Deeney.

Souness off down the rabbit hole. Said Man Utd are not fit because Man City made 300 extra passes against them. What’s he on about. Isn’t it consensus that you burn more energy chasing shadows rather than pinging the ball about??

You cannot slide down a glass mountain if you're already at the bottom, as most pundits will predict for us next season.

Amazing how far De Gea has gone backwards.

On FF numbers, he the 11th best keeper this season.

Souness is rather lost with the modern game.

Reminiscent of Dan Maskell’s struggles after the tiebreak was introduced.

Ok, so Matic should have gone then?

Disappointing to hear. FF should be focussing on giving his all to SWFC before his loan comes to an end.

No if the referee thinks that it was less of a red card then it wasn't a red. Matic didn't get himself sent off like deeney did as he's not a ****

So the difference is that Deeney is a bit of **** then? Interesting barometer. Both were pretty identical offences.

For what it is worth I thought at the time Deeney should go. Stupid and unnecessary. Replays suggest it may, perhaps, have been a yellow. Matic though, pretty much the same thing. Knew he was there and clearly gave him a good swipe across the face.

Is the real difference basically which side of bed the ref got out of, or which colour shirt the player is wearing or how important the supposed game is.

Challenges like this are open to interpretation but the fact the clubs appeal against Deeney’s red failed and clearly no action will be taken against Matic because the ref saw it and took no action effectively says that these two incidents were completely different which I do have a little bit of an issue with.

Still the ref also didn’t deem a Rojo special worthy of a red and he really is a ****.

I think I might be in a different camp to most people on this. Two points:
    1. It’s reasonable that the authorities don’t want to re-referee incidents if at all possible so will support the original decision unless there has been a very clear error, which I don’t think can be argued in either the Deeney or Matic cases.
    2. It’s unrealistic to always expect the same decision on similar (but never identical) incidents across different matches with different referees, no matter how much you would like this to be the case. The only time you can have a genuine grievance on this is in the case of two very similar incidents occurring in the same game with different outcomes, especially if the ‘big’ team is favoured.
Some think a lot of the latter cases will be solved by VAR next season, but I doubt it.

Don’t really disagree with this to be honest. I certainly do not think VAR will resolve but if anything will highlight this even more. Let’s take the two examples above. I think at best we can all agree Deeney was a little bit stupid doing what he did. We may however disagree with the degree of punishment. If this, along potentially with the Matic incident go to VAR next season the pressure will increase to get a consistent decision which as you point out may be unrealistic.

Are we still going to get a situation where the exact same decisions are made even with VAR and if so, and likely, will any follow up assessment be done? The referees effectively get their decisions correct despite being polar opposites.

If you are into your NFL you’ll know with all the technology in the world multiple referees will still eff up (see this years Super Bowl).

In comparing the two incidents, the theory of ‘momentum’ is quite a big factor I think. Matic will have been construed as protecting the ball and possession, so will have been deemed to be allowed to be ‘forceful’ to an extent. Deeney was chasing possession. And was late to the ball and put himself in an awkward situation.

The cases, although similar, aren’t the same. Ultimately, with a calm head and some sensible refereeing, both outcomes should have been a yellow. But due to their nature, the referees report would be deemed as gospel in both cases.

Deeney was unlucky to be sent off. But that said, he was stupid to get himself in that situation and as captain, it’s undoubtedly cost the team since the incident.
