    I agree.
We all recognise that Oliver is a mealy mouthed, namby pampy, good for nothing slimy hairball of a creature.
Why then give him the opportunity to produce a red card in such a neutral area of the field?
Poor refereeing by this week's favourite official but poor judgement by Troy, for the third time in as many months.

It's absolutely disgusting that Troy's appeal has been deemed frivolous. I said at the time that it was a malicious red card, and this is taking the piss further.

FOUR GAMES, because the ref didn't like the speed of the tackle? Think about that.

Don't give me the old crap about giving the ref a decision to make. He's competing for Christ's sake, which I assume is what his critics want him to do. Since when did football have speed limits? He got the ball, not the man, and whether you want him playing or not (personally, I do), any ban is outrageous, let alone four matches.

Given that the Observer can't even spell frivolous, I'd imagine they're guessing. I would've thought your first instinct was correct and it's because it's his second ban of the season.

I can't see it being reported as a frivolous appeal anywhere else.

According to Sky, you're correct: http://www.skysports.com/football/n...an-upheld-after-watford-red-card-appeal-fails

"Deeney will now miss four matches instead of the usual three-game ban after already serving a suspension earlier this season".

You might be right, but this red card was clearly a dubious decision at best. For the credibility of football the ban has to be overturned or reduced. To increase it is just ridiculous. Technically he's been shown only 1 red card and has been banned for 7 games in total!!

I hope this is taken up by the media and questioned. This is a wrong call by the FA and I hope they get a tough time over it, but I wont hold my breath.

Deeney's not a victim, it was a reckless tackle he didn't need to make. It was a soft but justifiable red, much like Zeegelaar's. The fault lies with the ref at the Man City - Spurs game for missing two horror tackles.

I understand your point, but why has no retrospective action been taken for those Spurs players? This is where it's all wrong and the game has a lot to answer for by creating these inconsistencies which can easily be seen as favouritism, or bullying of a smaller club.

Didn't Watford have to pay a bigger fine in the flare up against Stoke? That's never been explained when it's an equal punishment for clubs not controlling their players, Watford get the bigger fine. So many inconsistencies and we always appear to be on the receiving end.

I thought the red saw them both and gave yellow cards to Alli and Kane. That’s it- you can only review if he missed it - like TD v Stoke

I *think* it's because retrospective action can only be taken if the referee hasn't seen that part of the incident, not that he made the wrong call on the severity of the challenge. As soon as he gives the free kicks and the yellows, that's it according to the rules.

The one I really can't get my head round this season was when Lukaku kicked the Brighton bloke twice off the ball. Now that's a case for shouting about big team bias.

  12. Necrobutcher

It doesn't matter if anyone thinks he didn't need to make the tackle, or if anyone thinks it was reckless.

He got the ball, didn't touch the man, and the referee has no business doing anything further than having a word telling him to calm it down.

Yes sorry, just made the same point. I mean missing the true nature of the tackles rather than not seeing them at all.

I think with TD's recent decline as a footballer he should perhaps be thinking about a different career. I would suggest he consider being England's answer to David Blaine.
Only if you can jump into the back of someone like that and not touch them.. you are a ******* magician!

Well that's the rule, but in reality it can be twisted in whichever direction you want it to go. Deeney was booked in the incident which he got the retrospective ban for, so the referee did see it. It's the same argument which is stopping further action on Alli and Kane. It cannot work both ways. There has to be consistency and fairness or else it quickly lose all credibility.

A referee can apparently say he didn't see something, so a retrospective ban can then be issued. So in the case of Alli and Kane, do you honestly believe a referee can say he saw both incidents clearly and deemed them to be yellow cards? Impossible, and if he did he would not officiate another match ever again.

Who gives a ****. Stupid tackle, stupid player and if he is out of the team for four games then so be it, chance for Gray to prove his worth and Okaka to play the last 15 minutes for a move in January.

Deeney probably wanted to get a straight red knowing it would allow him to get ****ed off his **** for New Years.

EDIT: Mods, I'm offended by my own language. Why isn't **** censored?

  18. hornetboy1

No, it wasn't a foul, but in real time it looked like one. I would accept a foul given and maybe even a yellow card, although I wouldn't agree with it. Slow down the tackle on the TV and watch it closely. Deeney gets only the ball. There is daylight between both players. There may have been a slight coming together after the ball had been played, but it was marginal. He was in control and both feet were on the ground.-

Deeney was sent off because he ran faster than the referee liked towards an opponent. That's the only reason. Oliver read the situation incorrectly, but the FA have backed him up. Like someone else said, he's their golden boy and cannot be having too many black marks against his name. He got the offside and the Hogg sending off hopelessly wrong, so they were always going to back him here.

Sadly TD committed 2 offences v Stoke . One seen and yellow given and one not seen but subject to retrospective action = red

On city v Spurs I agree certainly Alli was a red and Kane was probably but we need the rules changed if refs are to be overruled for understating the action required which seems fair as at present it can only be downgraded

I thought Deeney was getting a 4 match ban anyway because of his previous red? Can someone explain how another game has been added to the ban but he’s still only out for 4!

Not bothered about him missing the Man City game anyway a) because he’s sh*t b) we can field any team and we’ll still lose

Can we reject they extension of the ban as frivolous and name him on the bench for the 4th game?

  23. Necrobutcher

Oliver actually acknowledged, at the time he gave the red card, that Troy touched the ball not the opponent, and cited the speed of the tackle as his reason.

I'm sorry, but this is outrageous, and the FA are bang out of order for backing him up. He's outside the laws of the game on this. It's not acceptable for refs to be a law unto themselves, and make it up as they go along when officiating a 'less fashionable' club like ourselves. His career would be in jeopardy now if he did this to, say, a Man Utd or City player.

At the end of the day, whatever the reason leading up to this. Is it fair Alli and Kane get nothing for two horror tackles and Deeney gets 4 match ban and he didn't even touch his opponent? The punishments are not matching the offences, and this cannot be right.

Like you say, things have to change, but the FA have a history of making an example of the smaller club, so I do not expect anything to be any different going forward.

In all sports the higher up the ladder you go,the more favours you receive.
All Italian clubs are convinced Juventus either bribe their way to titles or have the majority of decisions go their way.
The same applies in Spain. Most fans of Celta,Deportivo etc think Barcelona and Real Madrid are afforded the same luxury.
In tennis Djokovic and Nadal may be warned for slow play but rarely penalised, whereas a player ranked in the 80s will be docked a point for the same offence.
It's all about money, big players/teams make the world go round. It happens at every level,it isn't fair but little is.
Oliver may or may not have got it wrong and quite clearly Pawson did at The Etihad.
I can count on the fingers of one hand the good umpires that I had as a player. The rest were either imbeciles or control freaks.
I apply the same process to football officials.
Don't give them the opportunity to be incompetent or biased.

This prat also supports Watford in equal measure and this is why I know what I'm talking about as I have first hand experience of both sides of the coin. Big club bias does exist, but in England it's extreme and this is what fires my ire.

  31. Stevohorn

Look again at the pic.. look at Deeney's left arm and look at the Hudds players shirt above his arm.. TD's arm is behind his opponents back. It's not possible to do that, while going in a forward direction.. and there not be any contact. Well maybe it is but you'd have to have the reflexes of a Cheetah to get your arm out the way.

Did he get ball? Yes, i believe he did. Do refs see that as a reason for not giving a decision against a player.. no they dont. Right or wrongly the ref would have seen it as a reckless challenge from behind which caused an opponent to take evasive action.
Personally i thought it was a yellow card offence but it was surely a foul. Daylight between the two of them? Surely not.

Any bias you claim against our club is somewhat negated when your own bias convinces you that our players cant ever do any wrong.

You can’t prove things will still photos. That’s why I said watch the clip in slow motion on the TV. Shame you ended up with a stereotypical quote about my character.

I am always fair in my appraisal. I call it as I see it, always have done. If I was biased wouldn’t I have said the Hogg red card was correct? Both the yellows for Hogg were a complete joke as well.
