I don't think so, as he is there with Jay Emmanuel Thomas from QPR as well

To be honest, the going out drinking bit isn't really an issue for me, but going out of your way to flaunt it all over instagram is beyond poor timing. He is either too drunk/stupid to realise or simply doesn't care

Looks like the latter. Very grateful for everything that Deeney has done for our club but he realises his time could be up. Silva must be desperate to get a striker in the window. Despite firing blanks Gray will stay, Okaka looks like he is off and Deeney does not fit the system. If we had been winning comfortably yesterday Sinclair might have been given the chance as late sub but otherwise don't think he is seen to be the answer. The only other possible candidate is Success but injuries and off-field nonsense has got in the way of his development. Can't see Deeney as taking a role as third choice striker so both him and the club will want an out.

Is this adjusted for minutes on the pitch? I know he's not exactly been great but presumably he's had far more short sub appearances in the last 2 years ?

He must be hurting inside as we know he has a big ego. From first choice striker and captain to short frustrating cameos. It's no surprise that he sees the red mist occasionally. I will be surprised if Deeney is still with us come the end of January. Silva is no mug and saw our shortcomings cruelly exposed on Saturday. I'd say Capoue, Deeney and Holebas are on borrowed time if we can line up replacements.

I do have a problem with the drinking. Maybe I'm being unrealistic, but to me, it's a small sacrifice for earning 100k a week that you should treat your body like a temple.

In this age of massive riches and huge business for football one would've thought that every additional advantage would be sought.

I'd have thought a footballer whose value was in the tens of millions and whose salary was in the millions would have a carefully chosen diet and fitness regime.

Missing out on getting blasted would be the quid pro quo for owning 5 lambos and a mortgage free mansion.

    Couldn't agree more.

The stats put up earlier showing his contribution in the last 5 years cement his place as a legend. But look at his highlights reel from the promotion season. He's about 3/4 the size he is now. Going from mid to late 20s I didn't balloon up like he has and I'm not paid to be in peak physical shape with world class facilities and staff to help me. There's no excuse.

Deeney has got solid technique, good enough vision and movement and can play in others around him. Being a pivot up top in a 4231 is a suitable, not best however, role for him - but these aren't his natural assets so should be worked on most. He's just more interested in standing on the toes of the centre half and having a scrap so focuses on being strong and a bully.

Because of this I'd be very surprised to see any club stump up £15m+ for him.

No there must have been a terrible mistake.

Whenever he wheels out his been to prison sob story, he always insists he's now teetotal.

Surely he wouldn't lie about such a thing just to improve his image, would he?

    There is no excuse.
As Moog says, he will have a personalised fitness plan and I would expect him to be monitored weekly.
Moreover I would expect him to have some personal pride and responsibility in his deeds, words and actions. He is the captain of the club, paid a king's ransom to lead on and off the pitch.
I remember attending the Players' Awards in the promotion season and watching with admiration as Troy worked all the tables and spent time talking to all the fans.Where has that man gone?
Have I missed his apology for Saturday's dismissal and for the Allen debacle? If I have then I apologise.
Mr IBB is a canny administrator and he has always got his apologies in first, putting the doubters on the back foot.
Troy would do well to replicate this.
We all make mistakes.Lord knows I could bore myself rigid if I stopped to think of all the cruddy matches I've played, but humility and contrition go a long way.
The decline of an athlete is always sad to witness, but the decline of the man is eminently avoidable.Troy seems to be hastening his decline on a daily basis.
    Sad.

    No surprise here.
Ronaldo is mocked by many for being a preening narcissist but he is the consummate pro.
In 2009 or 10,tennis realigned its coaching qualifications in line with UK Sport.
Those of us with the top level were required to attend an upgrade at the NTC at Roehampton ( another sad decline),for the Level 5 Master Performance Award.
The best presentation we had was from Dave Alred, then Luke Donald's coach and best known as Johnny Wilkinson's kicking guru.
Alred was superb and a real inspiration. He told of his time working with NUFC,where Alan Smith was at that time.
Smith detested Ronaldo when they were at Man Utd. He thought him a pretty boy and mocked him.
Alred found this strange as he said Ronaldo had perfect technique due to his physical prowess and had clearly strived to attain his condition and to maintain it. He said Ronaldo would rarely miss a penalty and was a great technician as he kicked from his core and not his groin. He said the surgeon Gilmour had made a fortune and even had a condition named after him (Gilmour's Groin) due to the poor technique of footballers.
What he found most depressing was that Smith and a good many others, didn't follow Ronaldo's example but chose to ridicule him.
He may not be everyone's favourite but Ronaldo should be copied for his attention to detail and desire to improve himself.
    Look on Troy.

On a similar theme, both Aguero and Messi have in recent times spoken about how they gave up RED MEAT as part of fresh dietary regimes to gain a further competitive edge and an extra split second of explosion/pace, in order to improve as footballers.

I'm not going down the daily-mail, red-faced explosion of anger route about it, but I don't think there's any way to portray this other than A) Spectacularly ill-judged and mistimed B) An irrefutable example of how Deeney's very well self-documented obsession with self-improvement and professionalism has fallen by the wayside. In place of individual sessions with 'Jamie Velocity' in the evenings, he's out partying and drinking.

Why I find this so strange, as I have bored on about several times before, is that Deeney is a player who has literally always been noticeably overweight compared to other players. Obviously, compared to most mere mortals, he is in great shape. But compared to the vast majority of top-level footballers, and therefore his direct competitors and the people he has to go toe-to-toe with and beat (theoretically), week in week out, he has a far higher body fat percentage. I've always found that weird enough, because it's not like it's required of even a player of his current style; throwing himself about and 'putting some hits in', rather than moving. Drogba was never anything other than lean, and he even embarked on a regime to get leaner and sharper physically at a point in his late 20s.

For a player who suffers (is this the right word...?) from these issues persistently, and who is so obviously slow and laboured on the pitch for everyone to see, the fact that he instead chooses to drink and go out late in the middle of the season is baffling, and appears even more unprofessional than it otherwise would. I think Giggs is a scumbag and an ********, but at the same time he took up yoga in his 30s to prolong his career and remain effective on the pitch. Meanwhile, Deeney is 29 and grinding to a pie-and-booze-induced halt.

We all know one of the main problems we have when Deeney is on the pitch, and why Gray allows us to play the way Silva wants whilst Troy does not, is because he has at some point in the last year just decided to fundamentally stop making runs. It's both incredibly frustrating to watch and extremely difficult to explain. He just looks like he's given up. Why, instead of making moves to rectify the situation and give himself an advantage, he is doing things that will actively contribute to prolonging the problem/causing him further, I cannot know. It's just very, very disappointing from a captain and yes, absolutely, club legend.

Well done Moog, I like "Would've", "I'd have".
You correctly use the verb to have.
I just do not understand the amount of posts on this forum that use the verb "to of"!
I might be wrong, but I recon "of" is a preposition.
No I was never a school teacher, just an ordinary bloke that can see the glaringly obvious.

I'd have thought it was "Goode" with an E too, but it's apparently just "Good."

I leaned this from a recent episode of pointless.

As for Ronaldo, didn't Fergie always say he was the best pro he ever worked with? Trained harder, worked more and sought self improvement more than anyone else? Whatever you think of him as a person, as a sportsman he's a great role model.

Those stats say it all really.

Unfortunately, I think he's well past his peak now and just isn't good enough for the Premiership. I'll always respect the guy for what he's done for us, and how he turned his life around after being in prison. But the last year and a half or so have been a massive disappointment. He came back last summer overweight, and doesn't look to have lost much of it which has slowed him down a lot, and it's clear his confidence is at an all time low as well, leading him to making reckless decisions such as gouging Joe Allen and going in strongly on that Huddersfield player. His lack of movement as well is infuriating. He used run into the channels all of the time, now he just stands in the middle without moving.

I have no issue with him going out for a drink last night, I'm sure Silva allowed it and he's only human. You need to blow off some steam occasionally.

But the simple fact of the matter is that he's gone as far as he can with us, and I think it would be best for both parties if we went our separate ways either in Jan or in the Summer.
