Bresnen will come in for Finn even if it is his home pitch. It will also stretch the batting a little which will help an in expirianced Bairstow at 6.

That's what I reckon unfortunately. Tremlett may be the outside choice apparently.

That was a pretty tight match and a good win for England. When it gets as close as this, small things come into play. I think it came down to the superior way England used the referral system. Australia missed getting Broad out because of their ridiculous decision to refer an obviously wide LBW and England got the vital last wicket because they still had two referrals left.

Personally I think England won the test match because they played better cricket for longer periods than the other lot.

As Ricky Ponting has said after the match, "forget DRS, the team that won was the one that managed a century and two michelles." That's a direct quote.

And for anybody not sure what a 'michelle' is.. it's cricket slang; Michelle Pfeiffer = five wickets for X-amount of runs. ie a bowler took 5-for-64 (5-for/Pfeiffer.)

I'm still not convinced by Tredwell, I don't think he is better than Finn. It wouldn't suprise me if Derbach or Roland Jones gets a call into the 13 later in the series. Bresnen will come in for Lords but may be replaced by Onions at Durham.

We have two problems at lords, finding someone that can bowl the ball up the hill and Swann. Anyone that can straighten the ball from the nursery end will be invaluable. Anderson will get the pavillion end but Broad will want that end as well. Swan has only ever taken 31 wiskets in 67 innings at Lords. I would seriousley be tempted to drop him for this game and bring Onions in.

I think Finn will be the first victim though

    Cook
    Root
    Trott
    KP
    Bell
    Bairstow
    Prior
    Bresndan
    Broad
    Swan or Oinions
    Anderson

Agree with what you say but never do well against the Aussies at Lords, usually is the first test, we only need draws now and the Aussies need to win 2 from 4, I think that the Aussies put so much into that test mentally and physically that they are drained, they played 100% each and every player. England were average, except bell and Anderson, If Jimmy gets injured we will have serious problems getting 20 Wickets in England!

British Lions Won, Brit Andy won Wimbledon, one nil up in the Ashes and the sun is out!

Think the only change will be Bresnan for Finn although the former will know how the Lords pitch plays as its his home ground..

I understand what you're saying about Swann but very dangerous to go in with a proper spinner at all. The only possible change would be Bresnan for Finn. Having said that, Lords would suit Onions bowling.

I think Finn should play where there are hard quick wickets. Bresnan and the others look very average to me. Good job Ian Botham isn't still playing, Austrailia would make mincemeat out of Onions and Beefy...

If the boot had been on the other foot they would not have walked. The fault lies with the umpire and him alone.

However it is sad in a way to see sporting behaviour disappear. I am sure if the situation had been reversed , we would all be screaming blue murder about the cheating Aussies as many still do with regards to Maradona.

Finn is a fine bowler. Just needs to learn a little more control and placing it consistently in one area like McGrath. He has all it takes to be a danger on any surface be it slow or fast with his height a la Garner and company. He will learn that as he is only twenty four.

Poor decision to bat from Cook judging by the swing out there at Lords,
Good choice by Australia bringing in Harris.

New ball is always a threat whether you bat first or second.

Both sides also have vulnerable top orders at the moment so if the bowlers use any assistance there for the new ball then wickets will fall.

Still a long way to go in this match.

30 degrees and a pitch that has had no rain on it for a few weeks. You would have been nuts not to bat. Ball always does a bit at Lords due to the slope but not captain in the world that wouldn't have batted. Harris playing as this is his best chance of wickets and very rarely does he play 2 tests in a row due to injuries. Surprised we dropped Finn for his home test where he averages 20!

I must admit I wouldn't want us to bat last on a lords wicket. They tend to turn and the swing stays through out the match.

If you take the combination of batting last, swing, spin ( although Swann is crap at lords ) the hill and pressure batting first is a good choice.

    So far a decent recovery

Of course you bat in these conditions. Stupid not to. Decision is being justified now by the middle order. 100 for Bell and Bairstow looking strong.

Cook and Pieterson just lacking a bit of form.

This is why the ashes are brilliant. Twisting and turning one way then the other. Exciting stuff.

defo Aussies day with those late wickets on a 400 plus track , we are gonna have to come from behind again!

Odd decision to drop Steve. Though that little late collapse might just prove us all wrong. However as one Barnsley sage has observed you would expect the top order to get the runs first.

We need to bat through until lunch today. If we can do that and add another 80 runs to our 289 then we have something to bowl at. Big day for bresnan, if he can stay there and play some shots whilst Anderson, swann and broad try and add something too we could well get a decent score considering the top order, minus trott, bell and bairstow, failed. Bresnan could have a big day with the ball to. He gets a bit of reverse swing, something the Aussies haven't found at lords yet. We have batting to come this morning, so not all lost, just depends how we play the new ball.

Not a score that puts us in the driving seat or chasing. Aussies will be marginally happier but need to get a good lead to put us under pressure in the second innings.

  29. simms

    simms vBookie

If we can restrict them to about a 75ish lead, and we bat well in our second innings, the pressure is on them on a turning pitch on the 5th day.

Decent effort with the bat this morning against the new ball. Vital to take some early wickets. Looks like it's a quick scoring pitch so need get in to them early.

  31. Knight GT

Watson gone in the last over before lunch. Needed that. Bresnan needed that as well as he is under a bit of pressure to perform. What with the cricket, the golf and all the signings I've done absolutely no work today and to be honest won't do much this afternoon either.

Australia 3 wickets down. Great start for England's attack, though they rode their luck with Rogers.

4 down now, with jimmy resting ready to fire later in the session.

93-6, but now watch the Aussie tail wag.

And now 94 for 6. England are hammering them and then, they bring on Anderson.
