Bergwijn is a better player than Sarr. But I think Sarr is better suited to the PL from what I have seen.

Do you still believe that crap?

If that was the case and other clubs cut their scouting budgets by just looking at Sport Witness website to see who we are buying, please explain how the likes of Zeegelaar and Acuna slip through their nets?

Bergwign - never happening in a million years, he’s away with PSV for a Europa match tonight in Norway.

I don’t think Sarr will end up anywhere.... if we don’t pay the price wanted by Rennes then it’s not Sarrs fault.

Sometimes you have to pay the price ... we can’t have it both ways. If someone wants our player they have to pay up what we demand.... yet when we buy we expect to low ball teams and expect them to agree to our offer..... I think Gino may of met his match with this Rennes chairman

Numbers are good and highly rated....but it's Holland which is always a gamble when buying players. I'd prefer Sarr.

We've pulled out of the deal for Bergwijn.

Who says we've low balled Rennes? Most of the rumours are consistent we've offered a package of €30m+. That's a big deal for a club of our size and not far short of the reputed asking price. If there's a gap of a few million € and we can't make it work within our budget, we can't make it work.

Loving reading all the people confidently stating "Bergwijn is better than Sarr!" and the like.

    Logical reasoning here, well said

Put simply we aren’t in the same financial league as the teams we are competing with for transfers. When you read the facts from most recently published league figures (2018/19) we had:

    -fourth lowest income in PL
    - fourth lowest wage bill in PL (lowest as a % of income)
    - massive net transfer debt

And we made a substantial loss of £32m over the season

So as much as it’s nice to dream of us bringing in familiar names / top players, we simply aren’t in the position to

Among closest peers, Brighton, Bournemouth and Palace are financially better placed to do so

    All true

However we did finish above a lot of clubs , have never really looked like being relegated , could have with a bit of extra squad depth gained a European place , got to the final of the FA cup (okay let’s not talk about the result)

We are a good prospect for someone wanting to enter the PL

We can’t offer the same as some other clubs but let’s be honest 50k a week is a lot of money and we are starting to get a reputation for a well run club that has potential

Have people really not heard of Steven Bergwijn? Been making a name for himself for a while.

Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of European football would know both. Bergwijn literally played against England not too long ago and Sarr destroyed Arsenal on BT last season so even those with little exposure to other leagues would have seen them play.

Football exists outside the Premier League....

    Stupid comment.

I have a scrapbook for all his cuttings, like I do with all linked players. I’ve even kept my Diego Perroti one up to date.

I can’t be the only one?

Entirely agree we are an attractive prospect form someone seen as a rising star to prove themselves AND get pitch minutes, but my point was we are financially among the least able to attract higher grade (value and ongoing costs) players compared to majority of the league

No we haven’t. If you read/translate the article, it’s says the player is flattered but is concentrating on PSV and leaving any other matters to his agent.

The headline suggests we ‘seized’ whatever that means but the whole article says we are prepared to ‘break records’ and get closer to the asking price than Sevilla. The player is flattered but will leave it to the clubs.

Regardless, unless Gino is flush with cash and doing both, it’s not happening because seems we’ve got Sarr according to L’Equipe.
