I don't have an issue with 'cocky' or 'selfish' strikers when they are playing well and scoring ... Marlon King comes to mind. Sordell is not scoring or playing for the team and as a 'junior' player needs to be brought down to earth.

I'd sooner play Deeney up front or possibly try Forsyth in a more central role as at least he can head the ball and provide some presence.

He will be gone in January no doubt, probably to Cardiff.

Ideally (in view of the club's financial problems) we need to keep playing him or his transfer value will plummet. He is performing well for England under 21's so the talent is obviously there and better clubs will be interested. Unfortunately Dyche hasn't the ability to motivate him and/or our system of play or lack of it doesn't help.

I'd rather that we started looking like a professional football team. I'm not Sordell's biggest fan by any stretch as I think he is as lazy as the day is long, but you could put Tevez up front and we wouldn't score. Sordell is a problem at the moment and needs to stop spaffing off over himself and start grafting, but I don't think any of the players are overly at fault.

A couple of comments made after the game were that:

He wants to be paid in line with other players that have been brought in so is having a strop.

Another was...are the team providing him with the right sort of service?

As pointed out last season he isn't one for rushing around chasing lost causes so isn't going to fancy having to reach long balls all over the place.

Sordell is not playing well and is having a bad patch that happens to all young players especially when their performances make them become marked men. Simple as that. All I've heard from people that know Sordell is that he is nothing like some tirelessly attempt to portray him as on here and his Twitter page supports this. If he really couldn't give a sh*t I don't think he would be on Twitter after games apoligising for his performances and saying that he is going to work hard to find his form.

what ever the reason for it, he appears to have become a prima dona, paying him more would only make it worse, I fear he could become the next Rod Thomas !

He needs to find his hunger for the game

Taylor and Marriapa would be better than those who we call strikers.

Lots of players have different, even delightful personalities off the pitch. I cite Robbo as an example. Top guy, mild even.

I judge Marvin Sordell on what I see, his body language and the way he plays. I really rated him a few years ago when he was in the reserves but he appears to have gone all starry and has seldom shown himself to be a team player.
I don't really care what he twitters or says in response.

He is not a bloke I'd want to be in a battle with. No matter how nice he is amongst friends.

For some time he has had the demeanour of a man whose agent has whispered in his ear.

Anyone who thinks Deeney should be given a chance should have seen how many chances he missed against Bristol Rovers.

i think if Deeney got a run of games, he may come good? no wonder he misses chances if he doesnt play that often?

He should have scored 6 against Rovers. You can't fault his work rate but he will never be the goal scorer we need.

I cant believe people are suggesting that Sordell not trying hard enough is a major cause of our poor form this season so far.

It doesnt seem like the main reason to me.

Perhaps not, but Sords continuing as a lazy, self obsessed lightweight will not be the solution either.

Maybe not lazy but totally depressed at our style of play this season. Should be building the team to his strengths, which isnt punting the ball long into the corners or to our lanky winger hoping for a knock on for Sordell to chase.

As its been said sordell is not doing well this year. If I had his undoubted talent and style of play then I would be pissed off and frustrated too. That moment on Saturday when he went past two palace players and then should have laid it off to kightly, I wasn't surprised that he felt the need to take it on himself because if hed played someone in they would have probably passed it back to loach anyway.

Yes he could graft a bit more but this is far more down to the tactics, two defensive minded midfielders and two wide midfielders - rather than actual wingers. I probably wouldnt bother if I was just getting balls in the face either.

to be fair , if i was him and i saw players like Yeates and Forsyth come in on more wages than me , `id have the hump as well

My frustration with both Sordell and Garner is that neither of them gamble or try and predict where a ball is going to go. They are both completely reactive, they don't run on expecting a flick on, or dart to the front post. But then again when only ****inson managed to get a decent ball in for the whole second half.....

Im dont buy the whole "Sordell is a lazy prima donna" thing

I think he is going through a rough patch for the first time in his short career and he is frustrated that he doesnt know how to deal with it

You are right he is going through a rough patch that isn’t all of his own doing, but he is not helping himself by being a lazy prima donna.

Amazing how easy it is when you play with better quality players

  26. leighton buzzard horn

Absolutely right. He is being shown up as a lazy little facker this year as he hasn't got DG alongside him doing all the work for him. He needs someone to do the work for him so playing with good quality players who can do that, like DG and the lads he plays alongside for England, and he scores goals.

I know a few of the kids are getting upset about him being labelled as a lazy prima donna as they were getting terribly excited about him last year but you could see even then what the problem was going to be. There is no doubting his quality but that is all he has got at the moment, and that alone isn't enough.

He's generally over-rated. Even last season I was saying I didn't rate him very highly. He's lazy, and you can tell his attitude stinks. Needs to seriously buck his ideas up for me.

FFS He isn't overrated. Why are people so fickle. Form is temporary, class is long lasting.

He is a young player, still developing, playing in a team that isnt doing so well and isnt giving him the chance to shine.

Give the guy a break. Dont take your frustration at our poor results out on one of our better players

  30. wfcwarehouse

He is over-rated. As LBH quite rightly said, he flourished last season because he had Graham to do all the work for him.

I hate this quality in players, but it's obvious with Marv that he well and truely believes his own hype. If he actually got his head down and worked instead of flouncing about the place he might actually get a few goals.

Remember when Richard Johnson first started playing for Watford and he was criticised for poor passing and generally being lazy? When he eventually had better quality players playing with him he suddenly became a great player (the same as Tim Sherwood). Sordell is a quality player that needs encouragement and not criticism. He will come good when he (and the other strikers) get the service they need.

There is no doubting he is a quality player, but that doesn't make him immune from criticism especially when he is showing just what a selfish and lazy player he is at the moment.

I think we'll have to agree to differ on that.

Well I am not sure the service provided is helping too much but then that is no excuse for a lack of effort.

Probably wouldn't be so bad if the other strikers look like they could score rather than either be hopeless donkeys that don't jump or spend more time on the floor.

I'd even suggest dropping him but who with?

Deeney. Long overdue a sustained run of games in his natural position.
