It was all across the internet and reported in at least one newspaper. I also doubt he reads this forum, but I expect he has a phone.

Eh? So you wanted a source, but you’re saying it was reported in a newspaper?

I would have thought there is every possibility of a refund if he is as old as people believe. Certainly from his representative and the player would surely have to refund his wages. Unless the club knew.

Stop being daft. I clearly referred to the claim that ‘numerous Nigerians’ posted that they played with him in youth teams, making him in his 30s. I’ve not seen that.

Just how reliable those claims would be, because after all, it is possible to lie on the internet or say things for a laugh, may be hard to establish. But the level of detail could be interesting.

Right, so you’re getting upset about him getting upset about imaginary stories then?

Now you are playing internet games. It’s very clear I simply asked for links to posts that were mentioned. No one is upset, though you are being a bit tedious.

This would be a massive story, if your claims are true. So why not explore that?

Where? If it’s not too much trouble, post it again please.

Like I say, a massive story if true. A few weeks to make an U21 cut off would be one thing. Shaving 8-10 years off would be ballsy to say the least.

In any normal job proof of dob is usually a requirement usually in the form of showing one’s birth certificate, I wonder why in the world of football where vast amounts of money are spent this isn’t the case!

maybe he said his DOB included 419 (code for advance fee fraud) in Nigeria

It probably is the case, but it's also a not particularly unusual or difficult occurrence to get a fake birth certificate in Nigeria.

There were all those allegations about Kanu I remember - thing is he was a very good player so no-one cared how old he may or maybe been!

I posted this on the forum a couple of years ago to underline how rife age cheating is in some African countries, and it includes known cases of African footballers shaving 8 years off with fake birth certificates:

    The BBC Article:
"It is no secret that some African youth teams are often suspected of being full of overage players, with age scandals hitting the likes of Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya in the past."

Here are some more articles about age fraud in Ghanaian football, including articles from Ghanaian websites, for those ( @Squibba ) who still that think the issue is made-up and somehow being alluded to due to racial prejudice:

    https://www.modernghana.com/news/251176/football-age-cheats-chukwudi-how-old-are.html
Quote: " I lost interest in FIFA's aged competitions years ago when I came to the conclusion that the competition has been over-abused particularly by countries in Africa led by Ghana and Nigeria"

    https://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomeP...s-involved-in-age-cheating-in-football-407877
Qoute: "Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon have been named as countries involved in age cheating in the year 2015, according to a report by football observatory body CIES.
The three Nations were alleged to be involved in massive age cheating in the past year after a thorough investigation by the Swiss-based Football Observatory.
Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon in 2015 assumed to have fielded the youngsters players in FIFA competition of which the Observatory body (CIES) argue against after their checks on the three football nations.
A statement released by the body reads: “However, this result must be analysed carefully insofar as footballers born in Africa tend to be older than they claim to be,” the report stated.
“Lying about one’s age is a common practice that implies a competitive advantage in youth categories,” said the report."

Quote: "Age cheating in Ghana – the bane of football academies trying to produce the next Michael Essien & Kwadwo Asamoah."
"Thousands of desperate boys in Ghana are itching to land a football deal abroad, but only a handful get the chance with the few football academies available due to age cheating"
“The biggest challenge is age cheating,” Gareth Henderby, the technical director of Right to Dream, told Goal.com. “It is difficult for academies to get players in the youth national teams as older players are still getting picked due to their more physical dominating game, but [are] not necessarily better technical players.”
"Biologically, Clottey is 25, but on paper he is 17. He reduced his age drastically two weeks ago after failing on several attempts to gain admission at the academies. It cost him just €20 to obtain a new birth certificate through illegal means."

    https://www.todaygh.com/age-cheating-cancer-ghana-football/
Quote: "The Cameroon Football Federation could lodge a protest with the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) against Ghana for allegedly fielding overage players. They claim that seven of the Black Starlets players who defeated them 2-1, in the 2015 African U-17 Championship qualifier at the in Yaoundé, at the weekend are overage."
"Age-cheating has become a common practice in Ghanaian football circles to the extent that Ghanaian players are known to have two ages, the football age and the real age."

    https://www.kingfut.com/2015/05/26/claude-le-roy-accuses-ghana-cheating/
Quote: "Former Black Stars [Ghana] trainer and now head coach of the Red Devils of Congo, Claude Le Roy, has accused Ghana's U-23 national team of age cheating."

    https://www.thenational.ae/sport/age-cheaters-are-left-with-the-spoiled-1.648478
Quote: "The continental competition is a particular casualty. When the Confederation of African Football (CAF) last year ordered all countries involved in qualifying to undergo testing, 10 players from Ghana’s U17s were found to be too old. "

One tennis player,Seb Jackson was found to be older than his parents claimed when he had to produce his passport on an overseas trip.
They hadn't even tried to doctor it!
Bedene continued to claim he hadn't been offered money to play Davis Cup for Slovenia and cost the LTA about 500k in legal fees.
When the Slovenian federation produced the signed document the case fell apart.
Never doubt the stupidity of people or their dishonesty.

It's taken me far too long to question peoples integrity. But I do have a tendency to learn the hard way.
But as Dux said lessons learnt.

But, ok, I accept the possibility of it, if not your claim that he is obviously in his thirties, simply by looking at him.

The next questions are then, what is his future and if proven, what will the club do about it and his agent? It must come to a head sooner rather than later.

It was a dodgy Mogi Bayat deal, I doubt the club could care less about his age.

It's really a pointless and ridiculous debate!
I watched him play in the Europa league when he was playing for Gent some years back, he was teammates with Moses Simon then and Simon who is actually older than him obviously look older than Kalu then. Today, Kalu probably appear older than Simon, and people are claiming it has to do with age. To me, you simply can't predict a person's age simply through their looks because every time I have seen Rooney, Zidane, Charlie Adam, Diego Costa, Danny Ings, they look way older than there age. I think people are just trying to use Kalu's age as a way of claiming they knew right from the off it was a bad deal simply because it hasn't worked out well. Don't be surprise that these are the same people who predicted Dennis will be a bad signing after his bad spell at Koln!

That's not true - people pointed out right from the off as soon as we signed him that he looked much older than his supposed age:

There was a case last year where a Swedish side signed the top scorer in the Nigerian PL who claimed he was 18 years old but then posts were discovered dated 6 years previously about him playing and scoring for his university team (with pictures) that would put him at 24 rather than 18. https://twitter.com/iamOkon/status/1489300900732674055?s=20&t=3K1Q2x1jA1mLvTyDdyKziQ
