Replacement for Troy?

I believe that troy has done a great job for us the last 2 seasons, his return flatters his ability. I also think he is worth nothing like the 8m quoted and would be very happy with 5m. Wickham who was 18 when sold to sunderland and rodriquez who was 22 when sold southampton, age being the main factor for the over inflated prices.
So in the scenario that we were to sell Deeney for 5m and you had 3m to spend on replacing him, who would you sign?

I personally would look to 20 goal grabban, who i think is a like for like replacement for troy, costing 2m? and the reutrn of sordell for 1m, who has now scored 9 in 30, after his hatrick on monday. Wit the majority of his appearances being from the bench.

 

David Nugent. I hear Leicester will be getting rid in the summer.

Isn't sordell out of contract in the summer and therefore a bosman free?

If so, not a bad investment but expect him to follow his ex u21 manager Stuart Pearce to Forest rather than come to us.

 

Sordell at Forest? He'll be in League One next year.

 

I'd like to see us try a promising, but inexperienced foreign loanee. Unlike the rest of you I may not be disappointed.

sordell?! you really think that he would be up to it? his goal record since leaving is 10 championship league goals in 53 appearances. that is hardly appealing as a replacement for someone who has got 50 leagues goals since sordell left

According to today's Daily Mail, Burnley are to target TD as a replacement for Sam Vokes who has been ruled out until the end of the year with a Cruciate-ligament injury!!!

 

Troy could do better than Burnley, no offence to them. Would fit plenty of EPL mid table teams, or even long-odds Di Natale replacement?

Burnley can't afford him. Dyche said they can't spend large sums, and they even said they'd consider selling Ings if an offer of around £8 mil came in for him. I doubt we'd accept anything below £7mil and I doubt burnley would pay that.

 

This Deeney situation is going to be interesting and I will be interested in seeing how the Pozzos operate.

The Pozzos have put in a new stand and given us some financial ability but if Deeney goes, and we struggle without him, they may have have a very empty new stand.

If he goes on his own accord then there is little the club can do, if he goes because the club want to cash in, it could be a bad move.

I'd never heard of Vydra before he came, so there are some gems out there but, but how do you replace Troy, his effort and his goals? There is simply no one at the club at present who can fill his boots so where are they. Abroad again??

£3M surely must be complete nonsense, no one would be so stupid. Anything less than £8M would be a complete disgrace for arguably the best striker in the championship (unless there are player(s) we want in the deal)

I agree. Blackburn set a mini-benchmark when they signed Rhodes, but most players being bought from lower league teams will not go for as much as Rhodes did.

Hull came in for 5 million last year I believe, and I believe Troy turned them down. If this is the case, and Troy did indeed turn them down, then the club must have accepted this figure to get to the point where TD could enter talks.

 

And after another 20+ goals season you'd hope the price now is more than last year's 5 mil. 3 mil is bonkers and I would be cancelling my Hornets Player subscription VERY abruptly (I don't have a season ticket to rip up)

 

No chance he'd go to Hull for £3m, especially when they've also got Jelavic, Long, Sagbo & Aluko.

 

I reckon there will be nobody that pays the full asking price, but seeing that The Pozzo favourite trick is to have players added into a deal, there is no reason why he won't go to Leica for example for 5 million and Dyer or King or Somebody else. Plus other add ins into the contract
