The idea wet spam are suddenly unbeatable bogey men is laughable, they have been as **** as us all season which is why they are on the same points

    Exactly.

Today is not great for is but to say we're worse off than Friday is nonsense. We have a 3 pour advantage, as long as we maintain that we will stay up.

Ideally we beat west ham so they are under pressure on the final day

Couldn't even blame VAR for that collapse.

We are slightly worse off because of goal difference, but I'd probably have settled for something like this on Friday. I would say as well that we probably looked the best out of us and the two below us, as we actually played quite well in the second half (yeah Newcastle were **** second half, but Palace were bad all game and Leicester put in one of the worst halves in football history). We may yet only need another point, or maybe not even that (may doing a lot of heavy lifting admittedly)

Only crumb of comfort to take from that is that they have City next who can carve them open, and as they're 3 pts behind, they can't really afford to treat it as damage limitation. Come the time we play them, we MAY be in a position where a narrow defeat isn't that bad

Bournemouth were clueless and then Leicester capitulated- unreal.
I simply feel that we do not have enough in our squad or the fixtures on our side.
I think Bournemouth will beat Southampton.
If we can avoid defeat against West Ham, then we may have a chance.

Yeah cos fans at home make all the difference. It's only a rivalry for Bournemouth fans anyway. Southampton fans couldn't give a ****. No fans in the ground render the (fake) rivalry null and void.

Had enough of this so I'm going to disappear from the forum for a while. Today was just ****ing ridiculous. Teams that don't care, highly dubious VAR, highly dubious player mistakes, both matches today were going our way until the outcome was interfered with. It's not enjoyable when results are being influenced in this way. Bournemouth were being played off the park until "fate" intervened. AV would have lost without VAR. What's the point in getting worked up and getting emotionally charged when we are being cheated and teams and officials don't give a **** .

Just feeling really deflated. Like we’d just got our noses over the line but then find out that the real finishing line is still in front of us.

Honestly expect Villa to beat Everton and get a point off West Ham. I think Muff are also likely to get 3/4 points from Southampton and Everton.
If either of those hunches turns out true then they’re going to leapfrog us unless we pick up points ourselves. Who backs us in our last 3 games?

Lke others on this thread, I still can't quite believe that Bournemouth somehow beat Leicester 4-1, but let's keep the faith! It's in our hands.

We've won 2 on the bounce now and like us, West Ham will be bricking it as the 3 teams below them all won over the weekend. That game is all to play for.

I'm not optimistic for the Man City game I admit, but Arsenal are suck bottlejobs these days that anyone with the right mindset can take points off them (especially if David Luiz is starting).

    Keep the faith!

Ok, today was a disaster for us, but I want to be reassured over the remaining games of the likelihood either Bournemouth or Villa will overtake 34 points.

I want to play out the scenario where we lose our last three games, which is the most likely outcome based on the bookies odds for each match taken separately.

Bournemouth 31 points from 35 games. To play: Man City away - this just has to be a defeat, so 0 points from that. That leaves Bournemouth 3 points behind with 2 games to play. Southampton at home - tough game but it's one they could possibly win with an inspired performance. Outside bet of 3 points. Everton away - this one is potentially dangerous, depending on whether Everton have flipflops on or not. Outside bet of 3 points. However, I consider Bournemouth winning both of these games highly unlikely.

Aston Villa 30 points from 35 games. To play: Everton away - I think Villa could face a bit of a backlash from Everton in this one. They are tighter at the back than Bournemouth, but do not carry their goal threat. I'd be surprised if they get more than a point in this one. Arsenal home - Hmmm....this could be a real decider. Which Arsenal will turn up. It's a possible win, but hard to call it. West Ham away - Assuming West Ham will be safe, then I could see Villa getting something, but I cannot really see them stringing these three results together. I think they will max out on 4 points.

So it's not all doom and gloom. Even if we lose the next three, we could still potentially stay up with 34 points, but it's likely to be tight.

However, on a more positive note, if we beat West Ham, not only do we go above them, we potentially go above Brighton, who are playing Southampton away.

So, by my calculations, we probably have a 50% chance of staying up even if we lose our final three games. Villa or Bournemouth still have hard games of which they have to win at least one and in Villa's case one win and one draw.

If we beat West Ham, I'd say we're 100% safe. A draw keeps West Ham with us, but doesn't really ensure we are safe.

Media will be creaming themselves about plucky boremuff and the wonders of diver grealish over the next few days

Thought we were almost home and hosed

Can we beat West Ham .... yes we can but they do have match winners and maybe get something at Arsenal on the final day.

Just got to hope our trouncings against city havent left the squad mentally scarred ...... think its a 5 or 6 niller sadly which will send us down on gold difference

Think playing after Muff and Villa will focus the mind

Seriously dont understand how Muff and Villa still odds on to go down

I probably would have taken being 4 points ahead of Villa and 3 point's ahead of Bournemouth with 3 games to go so not overly disappointed, I still expect Southampton and Man City to do Bournemouth and Ake will be a big miss to them. Admittedly I am a bit nervous about the Villa game but Everton are normally good at Goodison. West Ham is very much winnable for us also

It's alright mate, we'll win at Arsenal because they won't try or something.

But we also think that Southampton will try against Bournemouth.

Why are people saying Bournemouth have an easier run-in than us? Villa definitely, but like the rest of us they only have one home game left, they are a point further behind and their away form is terrible.

To prove our fixtures are easier than Muff's, I put together this combined home & away table from soccerstats:

    1 Liverpool (h) 18 17 1 0 47 13 34 52
    2 Manchester City (h) 17 13 2 2 50 12 38 41
    3 Liverpool (a) 17 13 2 2 29 14 15 41
    4 Tottenham (h) 18 11 3 4 33 17 16 36
    5 Manchester Utd (h) 17 10 5 2 37 14 23 35

    30 Southampton (h) 17 5 2 10 17 33 -16 17

    39 Aston Villa (a) 17 2 3 12 17 35 -18 9
    40 Norwich City (a) 17 1 3 13 7 32 -25 6

We play West Ham (a), Man City (h) and Arsenal (a). West Ham have a terrible home record. The average position of our remaining opponents based on the above table = 15.66667
Bournemouth play Man City (a), Southampton (h) and Everton (a). The average position of their remaining opponents = 9.33333.
Villa play Everton (a), Arsenal (h) and West Ham (a). Average position of opponents left = 22.33333

Of course, form can go out of the window when you're fighting for your survival, but it can't be denied that objectively based on what their opponents have achieved home and away over 35 games Bournemouth have a tougher run-in than us. And there's the possibility that both they and Villa will get battered in their next games, thus preventing any momentum their gifted wins might have given them.

Ok, i’m as stressed as ever right now, but, Bournemouth have Man city and villa have everton, providing bournemouth get spanked 4 or 5 0 to city and villa don’t win, all we have to do is draw with west ham and then villa have to win both of their last 2 games to overtake us, and we need to hope we don’t get smashed to much by city and bournemouth lose to southampton to send them down

    That’s all that matters.

We can beat, and we will beat, West Ham on Friday. I think the boys will be up for it. There wasn’t much between the two teams when we lost 3-1 earlier in the season.

I hate relying on others as they have screwed us today. However we really do need Man City and Everton to do us a massive favour. If they both win and we win, then we are safe with 2 games left.

Even if we draw, providing we don’t get smashed by Man City, Bournemouth would have to win both and so would Villa.

It’s important to not lose on Friday. A win and results go our way, then we are safe.

There are ALWAYS weird results at this stage of the season, and to outside observers I'm sure our game against Newcastle with two penalties and a complete change in fortunes after half time would fit into that category just as comfortably as what just happened to Palace and Leicester .

There's absolutely no reason why we can't get a result against any of the teams we are lining up to play in the next couple of weeks - we've already beaten Liverpool and Man Utd, and drawn against Spurs and Arsenal in what has been a terrible season.

Lets just hope the players still think so. And maybe Nige so mention to Pep that if City win by more than one goal we're going to wipe out Ederson and ruin their Champions League Chances . . . (Only joking, honest)

Actually, I needn't have bothered with all that. If you take the original table without taking into account home and away form, Bournemouth still have a marginally tougher set of fixtures.

Average league position of Bournemouth's remaining opponents = 8.33333
Average league position of ours = 9

So I'd love to know where people get the idea that Bournemouth's run-in is tougher "by far" or why they think they're "far more likely" to get wins from theirs than us, as whichever you look at it, it doesn't compute.

In my mind it comes down to the fact that we have a game against another team who has as much need for a win as us. And two games against "top 6" sides who, on paper at least, have more quality in depth than us.

Whereas Muff have two games against teams who have absolutely nothing to play for.

And Villa have a game against one team with nothing to play for and, if Spam beat us, their final game will also be against another safe team.

I lost confidence in our team in a fight after Saints & Burnley. So I go into the next 3 games expecting nothing. But I think it's likely that either, or both, Villa and Muff will get enough points to overtake us.

Imo it's really down to whether you still believe that our team have the balls to pick up more points. After so many disappointments it's easier for my psychological wellbeing to expect the worse while hoping for the best right now!
