Can't believe what I'm seeing on 'Final Score'. Latest at the Walkers is Lesta 5 Everton 30. And Everton fans moan about the manager!

They need to beat us as Sunderland are 4 ahead..

So...if Sunderland win midweek, they will be safe before they come to us.

If not, we could well find ourselves relegating two clubs this week if they don't beat us.

We can relegate Norwich on Wednesday with a win and effectively relegate them with a draw

Newcastle will also now need to beat Spurs to stay up, a draw won't be enough

I love that we could potentially get a say in the relegation battle as long as Sunderland don't beat Everton mid week.

It's all quite simple now - if Sunderland win their home game against Everton on Wednesday evening (highly possible), Newcastle and Norwich are relegated whatever results they achieve in their remaining games. I am looking forward to sampling the atmosphere at Carrow Road if Sunderland establish a decent lead in the game :)

Reporter on Absolute radio said Townsend was close to tears at the final whistle at Villa Park. Shame that.

Call me negative but I believe it's important to at least start next season with the 'let's try and find 3 sides likely to be below us' approach.

That was how I started this season, obviously re-doing my targets when it was obvious there were several more than 3!

From that point of view I'm much happier if perennial strugglers Sunderland stay up and a Rafa managed Toon go down. I feel they'd be more dangerous opponents next season if they survive.

I'd like the weakest side to win the Championship play-off too.

Incidentally for those among our supporters who often point out that a bad end to this season could get carried into the next one might care to note Muff could well finish 5th bottom and end the season on a winless streak!

Looks like Sunderland are likely to be the ones who are going to survive, however it will probably mean that they won't be willing to let Defoe go, which is a real shame as I would really have liked to try and bring him to The Vic!

Pleased for Big Sam though as he has yet again proven what a great manager he is :sign15:

I wonder if Andros Townsend will be heading back south this summer?

This is a sensible approach - however, I am sure most Villa and Newcastle fans would have had WFC on their "three worse than us list"

All 3 teams coming up look poor this season and only Boro will realistically be able to bring in decent players

Burnley will go straight back down as they always do and whoever wins the playoffs will be the weakest promoted team in years

  15. Malteser

Back in August they probably had Leicester on it too!

How do you define poor? Burnley got more points, and Boro equal (89) the number we did last season and lost fewer games. As will Brighton if they come up!

No idea why but if Brighton came up I reckon they would be OK. Might be that it's easier to attract players to Brighton than Middlesboro and Burnley

I see we're improving. We're no longer favourites to get relegated next season. That is Burnley.......but we are second favourite to go down though. :( Even Middlesbrough are above us.

Don't agree with that. Derby and Hull both have decent sides

I'm a bit worried about the complacency on here. There are still three games left and nothing is final yet. Whilst it's unlikely, I won't relax until it's finished. All this mathematical bull**** is nonsense. It's not over until the final whistle.

Our odds are mystifying....... how can we be more likely to go down than Palace, BMurnemouth both of which are below us in the table and had awful recent run of form and Middlesbrough how much better odds than us and even much better than Burnley who finished above them in the league

  22. hornetboy1

What is a surprise is that we are more likely to go down than a newly promoted side. Of course the play off winners should be also below us, but I wouldn't count on it.

They'd need almost a whole new team

Their back line will ship goals at this level and players like Baldock, Knockaert etc. have shown they can't step up

Both have stuttered and coughed for long spells this season and both are spearheaded by forwards who failed in the PL last time. They are only both still in the playoffs because the teams below them like Cardiff and Ipswich failed to take advantage

Burnley will go down because they are possibly the most mundane, run of the mill, typically organised championship side. They are the same championship side that got promoted to, and then relegated from the premier league, no change in personel, and no change in manager! Repeat ad nauseum and pocket the Premier league money!

Well clearly the bookies don't think much of our season and Flores even if the pundits do..

Great from Sunderland, they have really gone for it and good luck to them: deserve it much more than Norwich and Newcastle.
If I were Big Sam (big if), I'd hand pick Everton and us before almost anyone else to finish off their season. A win at Carrow Road sending them down would be very sweet after their promotion party at the Vic

  28. Aberystwyth_Hornet

Perhaps they've made us favourites to go down, because we won't have Flores and they think we are foolish

I think this. Despite everything they still believe the high turnover of coaches is detrimental to us.

Need to repeat. Year 2 always tricky.

I think it is a mixture of this, plus our form during this latter part of the season and the fact that, as Sahorn says above, second season in the Premier League is often a tricky one.

Norwich's leading scorer has 5 goals this season.

Shades of our last 2 PL seasons, and a reminder if it was needed of the value of all those Ighalo goals when both he and us were good!!

Watching the relegation battle over the last few weeks, seeing the stressed expressions of the managers doing their post-match interviews, the worried looks on the faces of the supporters and players falling to their knees in despair at the final whistles etc etc, really highlights to me what a very good season we have had not to be involved in any of this, even if the last few months havent been all that good.

And 38 points would have been enough which we had by the end of Feb

I said long ago that the team in 18th will finish on 34 points, back when we were stuck on 37. I still believe this will be the case.

In November my local had a fundraiser for the Peace hospice, select the three relegation sides. Based on goals conceded, etc if went for Aston a villa, Bournemouth and Swansea. Bmuff had a patch of good form in late winter, but now are looking like the could struggle next year. Stoke, Crystal Palace and WBA have had poor results over the last 8, but Swansea have pulled away after looking poor at the end of 2015. Sunderland recruited well in a January. Realistically by the end of November Villa looked all but down and Newcastle looked likely to follow them. Norwich have suffered from a lack of goals and terrible defensive errors. Glad we got Prodl and not Bassong in the summer.
