I think I might be cheering the opposition if I stood to win £15k...

Don't knock being 17th. That could still be us at the end of the season.

I think he means 17th as in the way Sunderland normally do it, by being cack all season and only just surviving in the last couple of weeks.

'Skin of their teeth' is the important bit here. We were as good as safe the moment we hit 30 points with a huge chunk of the season left. That assured safety, plus a great cup run, has meant league form has suffered BUT, we've never even been close to relegation, even if we finish in 17th place. Which we won't.

Just remembered that Newcastle didn't put relegation clauses in the January signings' contracts.

    Mugs.

& Shelvey is on £80,000 a week

Compare that to Neymar on 77k a week at Barca....

Unfortunately their Player of the Season has to return to his native South Africa for family reasons. However Hercules expects to pick up his award as soon as he returns.

Whilst happier for our FA Cup exploits that Man U won the other night, I'm also disappointed because I was looking forward to both West Ham & us putting out weakened or experimental teams next week. Now they are going to put out full strength for sure - not that we can't get a result anyway......

If their 5th place looks in danger Man U will seriously be wanting to win this tournament

There's at least one other Europa League place below 5th guaranteed though with Man City winning the League Cup and I can't see Man Utd finishing lower than 6th.

Either way, they're in the semi final, they ain't gonna Plumley it.

What happens if Man City win the Champions league - do 4th place lose their spot?

City will probably come 4th anyway.

Though Everton won't be pushovers - still I'm a bit disappointed because they would have been a better bet to get past West Ham (who up until their last encounter they hadn't lost to in 18 games) than Utd.

****, that would mean Ighalo, Quique and Harry would suffer a cup tying.

Fxck me, Sunderland and Norwich look very poor even in their most important game of the season, some of the passes have been hilarious, like to think we should be able to open up both of their defences and capitalise when we play them.

A lack of quality on the ball but tbf Sunderland's pressing has been top draw. Back Cole for the next goal when Norwich get caught upfield.

Edit: LOL did I really say Cole?

Of course I meant Defoe who reminds me of him

After Sunderlands win today, really need 3 points today to pull away. Would also put pressure on Crystal Palace, who face Arsenal tomorrow.

LOL!, tell you what wouldn't mind Defoe (aka Cole) or Cattermole in our team should they drop!

We along with Everton could well be deciding the fate of these clubs after today.

We are safe as houses but Naarch and Newcastle have to be bricking it even if Newcastle needed this result ... Sunderland don't look like relegation fodder, they have a massive game in hand over Naarch and the easier run in of the three.

Palace won't be too worried quite yet.

Norwich could well be relegated by the time we play them and therefore Sunderland safe when they visit us.

Not too bothered by this result; it just confirmed what's been pretty clear to me since January, that one of Sunderland and Newcastle will be staying up and not Norwich.

Norwich got Man U and Arsenal next ...... can't see them getting much out of those

Even if we get no more points, and as of right now (Norwich v Sunderland game just finished)

Norwich needs 3 wins from 4 to go ahead of us. 2 Wins & 1 draw to tie.
Sunderland needs 3 wins from 5 to go ahead of us.

Both have to play us. I'm still a bit nervous but realistically we should be safe.

Bournemouth behind us in the table despite finishing ahead of us last season. Howe should be under pressure for not taking the club forward.
