If someone were offering me a contract on that sort of money, I know I'd take one hell of a lot longer than 10 minutes to read it before signing.
Here are my thoughts on what should be decided on the players below this summer: - Almunia- 2014 - release Brown- 2015 - try to sell Angella- 2018 - no action Ekstrand- 2016 - no action Battocchio- 2016 - no action Deeney- 2016 - Offer improved contract McGugan- 2016 - no action Forestieri- 2018 - no action Doyley- 2015 - no action Ranegie- 2017 - no action Jenkins- 2014 - release Acuna- 2016 - no action Murray- 2017 - no action Hall- 2014 - release Pudil- 2017 - no action Faraoni- 2018 - no action Fabbrini- 2017 - try to sell Anya- 2016 - no action Abdi- 2016 - no action, because of fitness worries. Then if no further injury worries offer improved contract just before January window. Iriney- 2015 - try to sell Woods- 2014 - not sure? maybe offer new one year contract as 3rd choice GK? Ikpeazu- 2016 - no action Mensah- 2016 - no action Cassetti- 2014 - release Smith- 2016 - no action Neill- 2014 - release Bond- 2016 - no action Hoban- 2017 - no action O'Nien- 2014 - offer new contract Nosworthy- 2014 - offer new one year contract Riera- 2014 - offer long contract
Marco is currently playing for the first team...Nos isn't. The idea of us releasing an old first teamer and re-signing an old player we loaned out is more than a bit odd. I'm not saying Cassetti looks likely to get another contract, mind...
I'd be happy for Marco to stay another year. He'd be a backup defender and wing back and a decent one.
Not saying we should keep Nos. Would be shocked if we do. I think Marco is worth another year, if only for his experience and his natural link between the foreign and English players.
Why is everyone writing off "The Nos", has he not come back the same player that he was before his injury or something? Does anyone know? Seriously, everyone is saying we need a big commanding no nonsense CB, surely that is "The Nos" to a tee? He always gives 110%, and he rarely if ever puts in a bad performance!!! Therefore unless he has come back from his injury a lesser player than he was, surely he is worth a one year contract at the very least!!!
He came back, played a few games and then we got Lucas Neill and let Nos go. I think that tells you about his future with us.
I can imagine TVOR referring to Nyron in person as "the Nos" and him pinning him against the wall in anger.
Maybe he wouldn't want to do it here but he has spoken of getting his coaching badges, I think he already has one/some, and said he'd like to be a (I am) gaffer in the future.
If the contract were in my second language, and I had no particular gift for legalese but did have a lawyer or agent I trusted, 10 minutes would do fine. I'm not saying that's the case, only that it's one possibility.
Watford fans should know better than to write off a player that hasn't gotten a proper run, all the while settling into a new country for the first time, a new team, and with fans with over-inflated expectations going into the season. Anyone who's not Matej Vydra isn't good enough according to a lot of idiots about here. Fabrinni is not a bad player, in fact he has the makings of a very good player barring a few tweaks to his game (work-rate / get the head up) and I for one would like to see him back. Same with Acuna.
Wasn't given a proper run? Fabbrini was a fixture in the first team from the first game til the January window opened. He appeared in 25 games in that time including all our 4 cup games. I'm not sure what more of a run he wants. He will never suit Championship football and this summer is the right time to cash out on him. Acuna showed more physicality in his appearances, which gives me more hope he can adapt, but I'm not convinced he'll be back either.
Nice to see we agree on Fabbrini, I was never convinced on him from the moment I saw his promotional video before he even came to us! As for Acuna, I would not be adverse to seeing him back, as many have said I do not think he has been given a fair crack of the whip, and I agree with you that he could still come good given the chance!
Fabbrini only started 11 games, the rest he came on as a sub, who knows how infrequent they might have been, 10mins of football in a whole month before another few minutes. He's young, and been uprooted to another country with a completely different footballing style and culture, yet people think its appropriate to judge him based on 11 starts. Players are different, some hit the ground running (Vydra, Abdi), others stutter and start for a few months (Anya), maybe even a season and that's ignoring the off the field stuff that goes on for players (leaving native country, language barrier, leaving friends, whether he really wanted to come here). All I'm saying is there is definitely the makings of a good player in him, those that can't see that ought to learn a few things about the game of football and too many people are too quick to throw in the 'ah hes crap m8' card. Sure TVOR has just admitted to judging him based on 'his promotional video' before he even player a game for us. Truly mind boggling stuff. I reckon it could be foolish to 'cash-in' on him so to speak, which I don't think we could do if we tried. You may be right in saying the style of the championship might not suit him, or its physically, speed etc took him by surprise, lord knows he wouldn't be the first persons that's happened to but seeing as he's contracted to 2017, I'd like to see him again a year on, under a different coach, different system, see if he's improved as I reckon whoever gets the best out of him is going to have a cracking player.
The point is the doubts I had about him from the video proved to be right when I saw him playing for real.
Fabrinni failed to adapt his game. He was played as a striker whilst here but dropped far too deep, if he was playing a deeper role he'd be a great player but he wasn't which ultimately left Deeney on his own to do a lot of work and go through his dry spell.
Who made the decision to let the likes of Fabbrini, Acuna and Iriney go out on loan? Club or Sannino himself..
It probably would have been down to Nani. As he deals with that sort of thing. If Sannino does have an issue with that then he'll say, like the Battocchio deal.
I think that to be a great player in midfield you need to be able to see and make a pass, or else to be able to close down opponents and win the ball from them. Preferably both. Fabb couldn't or wouldn't do any of that.
He played 11 matches from the start, in 2 matches he came on at half time and in 6 he got over 20 minutes on the pitch. 3 of those saw him come on within 10 minutes of half time. Of the remaining 6 appearances from the bench 1 was 15 minutes and the rest were under 10. In that time we were rewarded with 1 solitary goal although he did apparently set up 4 too. How many times have you seen him play live? Fabbrini is not suited to the Championship. It was painfully obvious to 90% of the people who go to games that he just doesn't have the mentality for it. Take Forestieri as a comparison - another player who came into the squad with a playing style which wasn't necessarily suited to the Championship and an inclination to go down too easily. Within 3 months he was showing a marked improvement and now he's a real asset to the squad. Given we're a Championship club it would be silly to persist with trying to make Fabbrini into something he's not. I don't care if he's young, had a troubled upbringing, has a sensitive soul or misses home. Either he does the business on the pitch or he goes. My only reservation about him is if we were to ever reach the Premier League I actually think he might be a much more useful player to have around. Whether it makes good business sense to loan him out in the meantime or simply flog him and cut our losses I'm not sure. I'd accept either option.
In 15 years time it will be one of those ridiculous footballing tidbits that Marco Cassetti and Alex Jakubiak once played together in a professional match.
