The only player that i thought looked decent against Liverpool in the fa yuf cup this year. One to look out for.
So, out of contract are: Gomes O'Nien Munari (loan) Guedioura (loan) Doyley Savic Vydra (loan) Doherty Johnson Gilmartin Connolly (loan) Motta Who'll be back?
I think Savic may have got another year had we not gone up, I know Austin said they were impressed with him. I can't see him making the 25 man squad though unless they want to keep him around for the U21s.
Contract for the first team: Gomes - obvious reasons Guedioura - obvious reasons Vydra - obvious reasons Motta - seems likely from his recent comments, can imagine it'll be a short term contract though Contract for development: O'Nien - was highly rated by Sannino, has done well at Wealdstone, is only 20 so has a couple of years to improve. Either a loan to ideally a League 1/2 club, or for the U21 team so WFC can keep a close eye on him Savic - Austin rates him, another for the U21 team Doherty - Only just turned 19, versatile, capped at U21 level for NI. I think he's promising, but could do with a loan Contract for a non-playing role: Doyley (ambassadorial or youth coaching) Contract for 3CR: Gilmartin I'd like to see Connolly re-sign but don't think he will. Can't see Munari staying. Haven't heard a huge amount about Johnson, don't think he's pulled up trees at Hemel Hempstead. No idea about Gilmartin - depends if the club think he's good enough to stay as a third choice keeper which I don't think they will.
Motta is apparently in talks with the club already, as are Gomes and Jokanovic. Haven't heard anything about the others although I imagine Vydra will sign permanently and Guedioura doesn't look like he'd say no to returning - hasn't he been transfer-listed by Palace?
Motta, O'Nien and Savic to be released. Contract talks ongoing with Gomes, Gilmartin and Doyley. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...lks_ongoing_with_Gomes__Doyley_and_Gilmartin/
That's bitterly disappointing with regards to O'Nien but you could make a case for the other two being let go. He'll do just fine though. Talented and has a great attitude, will have plenty of FL suitors I'm sure.
Thought O'Nien would be good to keep for the under 21s. If he has no realistic chance of making it though then it's unfair to stop him making a career for himself elsewhere.
I'm not really. He wasn't anything special over his 10 or so appearances (he was good don't get me wrong) and we've got Juanfran on the way, don't we?
Shame for O'Nien, but best for both parties that he moves on Needs to get a club in League 2 and find a preferred position as well as prove that he is physically capable of playing professional football
Who knows about Juanfran? But I would certainly have preferred Motta to stay (and work on his crossing) and Paredes to go.
Surprised Johnson is staying on, seemed to have less of an impact at Hemel than Luke did at Wealdstone. Thought Motta would stay and although I liked him, it gives us a chance to bring in someone better without being overloaded with right wing-backs.
Motta going just means that we will be getting someone considerably better in the eyes of the Pozzos at RWB/RB. Will be glad to look out for wherever O'Nien ends up. Good luck to him.
He is a year younger to be fair. I think he'll be in the same boat as Luke, if he can't prove he has something about him this season he'll be released too
I'm surprised by the O'Nien love in. I don't wish him ill but he's clearly a Conference/lower League 2 player at most at the moment and at 19 needs to move on to have any chance of making a career in professional football.
Not too surprised at those being released. O'Nien is very talented....just look at how many keepie uppies he can do with a tennis ball....but he was never going to make it at the level we need him to be at. I feel sorry for him though as I know how much Watford means to him. He just loves the club inside out. It's going to be a big blow for him. Motta just didn't have the necessary quality with his delivery. The rest of his game was sound though, but from what I saw of him, he didn't seem to offer enough in an attacking sense. Savic was just a player we had an extended look at, but didn't follow up. No surprises that Gomes is in talks, but maybe some will raise a few eyebrows over Doyley and Gilmartin. I think they are around as backup only, but more importantly they are very good members of the team off the pitch. I believe this why the club want to retain them.
I thought he was alright too but after 10 shanked crosses against Wednesday I started to have my doubts. He couldn't have been more unmarked than that in a game of football ever again yet he still couldn't produce.
Didn't think it was worth making another thread for it but some good news for Luke, hope this happens for him. http://m.exeterexpressandecho.co.uk...nked-Watford/story-26602274-detail/story.html
I hope this is true, Exeter would be absolutely perfect for Luke's development. I watched plenty of their games during my Uni days and safe to say they're not afraid to give opportunities to hard-working, technical youngsters, esp in central mid. That's mainly because they simply aren't in a position to splash out on transfer fees, but it's also because they're a club built around bringing young players through much like the Watford of old (well, pre-2012 anyway). All in all, this would seem the perfect opportunity for both parties. Sign him up, Grecians!
