Salt on the chips, nothing more, nothing less. You can dip them in the mushy peas if they're too dry for you.

Black pudding when cooked properly with the rest of a full English is divine. It's also bloody good in a black pudding and brie toasted sandwich.

The jelly you get with jellied eels. The Eel is nice but the Jelly makes me wretch and not much food does that.

I found similar with the Rick Stein chippy in Padstow. People going mad for a fish supper from there because it belongs to Rick Stein. I paid the thick end of £50 for 4 lots of cod and chips and it was below average at best. There is a chippy in Leighton Buzzard that is far better and does a mean curry sauce with it.

I experimented making a black-pudding version of a sausage roll. The ones made with dessert apples (grated into mashed-up pudding) were good the ones with unsweetened bramley apples were really good.

Bog-standard jockanese chippy black pudding in batter was memorable as well.

Breaks meister's first law of food. Fruit is for desert only.

    Only exception is Lime pickle.

Exceptionally inconsistent (warned by the locals) place. It was only on my third visit (in a week) that I (we) was (were) served anything similar in quality to 'The Golden Plaice'. A very similar experience in Stein's favourite chippie (other than his own) in Weymouth.

Yep. They're great. But what we need to know is did you consume one shoved up the arse-end of something else?

  10. You really must try un vin licoreux avec le foie gras (ou bien avec Roquefort). C'est normale!

  11. Isn't there a campaign to ban foie gras due to the cruel way they force feed the animals?!

If you want the best Fish & Chips in Cornwall go to Lostwithiel, and you'll get them for half that price.

Many locals travel from miles around to Lostwithiel for the best Fish& Chips in the County, if not the country!!

I think the sale of it was recently banned in New York.

Well, well, well I've learnt something today:

  15. I've been see a 'gavage' feeding. The geese run to the guy with the pump to 'get stuffed'. They are taking advantage of the fact that geese , like labradors, have a very very high "full" threshold. Whether you think that is cruel is subjective.

Yeah, I misread Filbert's post, actually.

Lashings of ketchup on the fish. Nothing on the chips except a little salt.

Rick Stein's fish 'n' chips in my home town of Falmouth is also rubbish.

His original seafood restaurant in Padstow is good, though. And I like his grumpy old man demeanour on TV.

It is something that I can imaging being popular during Henry VIII's day and spawning some nursery rhymes, but by necessity, cooking such a densely packed combination of meats would be a bad way of cooking each of them. Surely much better to cook them all separately and for the right amount of time, than have to cook for 20 hours just to make sure the inner dunnock isn't raw, whilst the swan on the outside is cremated?

"If you're in a hurry"... How many people grab a foie gras to go? Off to the pub - pick yourself a quick foie gras up out the fridge, just eat it on the way.

Did you go to Carnivore? I went there, but, like you it sounds, I seem to have missed the halcyon days before new laws prohibited many species from the menu.

Mrs. Moog had just turned from being a full on vegetarian to eating.a. little chicken and fish, but was happy to eat ostrich and crocodile (just a big chicken and a big, scaly fish).

I love black pudding but was once made to eat roll mops while on a rugby tour which I immediately threw up and have never eaten since

I can't remember the name of the place as a good few years ago but it was similar to a Brazilian BBQ kind of place. I believe it did kangaroo as well which was fairly tasteless

That sounds like the place. It was voted one of the top restaurants in the world a few times, I think back when they served zebra and springbok though.

    It was ok.

North Sea, next to the Red Lion on North Street. The curry sauce is incredible.

Steels in Cleethorpes is the best. Fresh off the trawler onto the plate (via the fryer, obviously!) So big a portion of fish, it can't even fit on an oval plate and the chips are the best I've ever had!

The mortality rate increase of birds subjected to the feeding is something like 20 times higher, so it's indisputable that the process is cruel.

JFC...been a while since I bought F+C in Blighty, but that seems ludicrously steep.

Pie and chips at my local chippy used to be a shade over 2 quid!

We have a JFC in Aylesbury, it's where I normally stumble too for my post Wetherspoons kebab (normally eaten under the tree in Kingsbury Square).
